It’s always endearing when the Jumble brings us stories of little children…and once again today we see that we can COUNT on another ONE of them being SOMETHING special!
The ANSWER to this ONE was another gimme…Teaching SUMS…And with our dialogue giving us the words…”add”, “answers” and “total”…our question offering UP “equal” with another “total” and “added”…the whiteboard ADDING to it all…PLUS the ADDITION of those quotation marks, letting us know there’d be word play with a misspelling? To SUM it all up? No matter what we ADD together…it’ll give us “SUMTHING”! And the only thing about today’s puzzle that might not ADD up for everyone? Tedium…I’ve a feeling it may have caused some BORING…I mean poring over…

For each small girl and boy…

Easy peasy ! Except I felt like I was in a TEDIUM with that word , so I gave my shoulder a SHRUG and I FLUNG through the jumble and that was my INTENT ! I’ve always had an easy time with numbers , being in finance for about thirty years. So todays jumble was fun and it didn’t leave me with Nothing , but rather SUMTHING I could comment on ! Not the greatest of Jumble mornings…..just didn’t see that word emerge from the anagram letters. And struggled a bit over TEDIUM, too. Seems like the rest of the Jumblers found it easy !! Will try to go back and crank up my brain cell output for the rest of the day !!

There is only one word in the English language that can fit this clue, and that is GUNSMITH. Don’t want that in the schools. The clue should have shown a 3 letter and a 5 letter word instead, as both SUM and THING are words.

A simple concept in today’s jumble but very effective. Makes you focus on the absolute basics.

I enjoyed the very cleaver jumble today. I would have been had if I had not finally noticed “sum” and the italics. At first I thought the answer was something, but that had too many letters.
Something wouldn’t have warranted use of the quotation marks, Ray. Whenever you see them as part of the solve, that’s your clue to looking for a pun. And I’m glad you enjoyed todays! ➕🙋🏻♀️
Being a math guy, “sumthing” was a blind solve even though the anagram for tedium had me stumped but needing the M and I for the cartoon solution led to the tedium anagram solution as well.
