  1. Good Morning, Everyone…🔠 JUMBLE-AYA!🔠

🎶 Something you need to know…How much I need you so, IN MY MIX, yeah…So don’t keep love to yourself…You’ll find a greater wealth…IN YOUR MIX…🎶…”Put Me In Your Mix” – Barry White 1991 https://tinyurl.com/2yyw3wff

🔠 A dictionary full of words, he brings them all to life,
No easy task to undertake…I’m sure there must be strife…
But still we have our Jumble…day in, day out we see,
The fruits of David’s labor…and we love it same as he…
Today he’s dished out XENON and MUTANT both with ease,
But guaranteed some players may be brought down to their knees…
The TROPIC and the WITCH went well, the other two? Slight nix…
David came up with two new words to PUT INTO THE MIX! 🔠

1954… Still feeling the exuberance of post war years, our country’s doing well. General Ike’s in the White House…People are happy…and then…and then…Ta-Da!…The Jumble. https://tinyurl.com/kwfx5tx3 And the rest is History…(and a much more interesting History than the one we dealt with yesterday…just sayin’)…

So today we definitely have a MIXED bag…Two old words, Witch and Tropic, and two new, XENON and MUTANT…but all four anagrams making their Jumble debut. And I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…David never ceases to amaze me. I can’t imagine what it must be like to create these puzzles each and every day…not to mention all the other WORD games he has out there…Kudos, David! There are no words!

Ok…With a few blinks at Xenon and Mutant, the Early Birds, to a man, PUT their best foot forward and deciphered them all…And the solve? It took a little more guesswork than usual, but they all came out victorious! And I was glad that I didn’t have to SPELL it out for them!

Our cartoon…A keeper…It’s always a pleasure seeing David and Jeff…and today is no exception. Jeff, donning Wilco’s “Smile Ringer” T-Shirt, https://tinyurl.com/sp4wj9uc is drawing the scene in real time, responding to David’s lament of our puzzle’s theme. It has to be very hard to keep doing what he does…finding new words to…PUT INTO THE MIX! Letters MIXed up each day to form the Jumble! I love it! And the Gems? David’s drinking coffee from a Mount Rainier mug, while he sets up a puzzle on his grid. And the three pooches, David’s Miss Daisy Dog, and Jeff’s Gizmo, left, and Fifi, right, a chew toy between them, are sleeping peacefully by their feet…But aside from what looks like the word Jumble on Jeff’s phone…I can’t make out the rest…All in all…It’s a really nice MIX…

So…There you have it Folks, Done. Have a good one. Be well, stay safe and here’s hoping David stays inspired…🔠🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🙇🏻‍♂️With words like XENON and MUTANT PUT INTO THE MIX at one time, the pre-teens were upset, and overheard calling their teacher a WITCH…since as vocabulary homework, TROPIC was the only word they recognized…🙇🏻‍♂️

🤷🏻‍♂️He sat midst TROPIC splendor, the sun, the sea, the breeze,
And worked his crossword puzzle…today not going with ease…
He struck out huge on XENON, science never his forte,
And thought the clue for MUTANT simply added to the fray…
He did well with the 7 down…WITCH didn’t give him grief,
But today some of these words are just way beyond belief…
And where he’s usually quite adept, today’s no easy fix…
Will Shortz has got him beat… with what he PUT INTO THE MIX! 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. Good morning , I was very discouraged by the anagrams and the jumble ! I wasn’t going to comment, but I just want to say that this one was really out there and I felt like I was on another planet , cause I really was exhausted on two anagrams and that is all I could get , so I’m not gonna cry anymore, I’ll just wait and do tomorrow’s , goodnight! And everyone have a good day !

    • Good Morning, Jim. The 2 new anagrams were a little harder than usual..I don’t think you’ll be alone with the frustration…I’m curious to see how everyone’s going to feel about them. Good night…Pleasant dreams…🔠🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Very tough Jumble. I can’t recall ever learning  Xenon. The words that came to my mind were Nixon, Exxon and annex. I only came up with Xenon by trying different letter combinations- nonex, ennox, etc. –  and  then checking to see if they were actual words. Mutant wasn’t easy either. And to find the answer, I needed to write down possible three and four-letter words.

    • Good Morning, Caroline…I’ll share something with you. I have 7 of David’s word games on my iPad that I play daily. One, Word Search World Traveler, (which is great), involves a series of puzzles where you search for words in different categories. One category calls for finding words using each letter of the alphabet…and the X word in every puzzle? It’s always XENON! So I’m wondering if other readers recognized it that way too…Anyway…Kudos 👏🏻👏🏻 for sticking with it! It wasn’t our average every day puzzle! Wishing you a great day, Caroline…Be wel, and stay safe out there…🔠🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Always based on word play and pun
The jumble creates years of fun
    Yes, English is clever
    But last forever?
Or out of words will the the list someday run?

    • Hi Helen…

🔠 While the Jumble is such fun to play,
And it’s there for us day after day…
      We don’t realize the chore.
      As David must explore…
Words to ensure that Jumble will stay! 🔠

🔠 Some are hard but then others a breeze,
And there’s days when David plays the tease…
      Take today when we found,
      Scrambling definitely profound…
As David chose words such as these…🔠

      🔠 O’er the years we’ve played many a game,
In the newspaper’s small cartoon frame…
And we’re fans through and through,
We just love what we do…
Playing this game that brought David fame! 🔠

  6. This Jumble leads me to wonder how many times a word beginning with X has appeared in a Jumble, and how many chemical elements have appeared in a Jumble. I found that these are the elements that can occur in the first 4 words of the Jumble: Argon, Boron, Radon, Xenon, Barium, Carbon, Cerium, Cesium, Cobalt, Copper, Curium, Erbium, Helium, Indium, Iodine, Nickel, Osmium, Oxygen, Radium, Silver, Sodium, and Sulfur. I wouldn’t think that Erbium would have appeared in any Jumble, but elements like Copper and Carbon have appeared a lot. Also I note that MIX is the Roman numeral for 1009, and that double that is a recent year, 2018. How many Jumbles have been designed? 1009?

    • There’s been a Jumble every day for the last 67 years…1009? A mere bag of shells…All the chemical stuff? I have no reaction… Enjoy your day, Jim…🔠🙋🏻‍♀️

      • I forgot to check for shadow or alternative answers. These elements that I listed above will never appear in a Jumble: Argon (groan, organ), Radon (adorn), Cerium (uremic), Cesium (miscue), Silver (sliver, livers), and Sodium (odiums).

  7. Tough one, but fun to solve. I’m confused about the “after 67 years” part. Made me wonder how old David is. I looked it up and found that he was born in 1965, making him 56. What am I missing?

  8. Good morning. I had a double fault today. Had to look up Xenon and then failed on the cartoon answer. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  9. Failed on xenon and mutant, and then given the letters had put and mix,but failed on into and the.I thought the 4 letter word was them, which removed the M from mix, then when I put the M in mix, into didn’t come to me for the 4 letter word. All in all a Friday failure.

    • You just got me a little MIXed up too! 😉 Have a good one, Professor…🔠🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. Had to put on my thinking 🧢 cap this morning. It took me a while but I finally got all the answers. Clever puzzle and thanks to David & Jeff for keeping us on our toes every morning. Have a good day all.

    • Good Morning, Betty…Very clever, and well-worth the effort to get the solve…And yes, many thanks to David and Jeff! Wishing you a good one too, Betty…Enjoy! 🔠🙋🏻‍♀️

  11. All of the jumbles took some effort today, including WITCH. I have a background in Chemistry, so XENON came pretty quickly, but not instantaneously. I first saw TROPIC as protic, but the MW dictionary has aprotic (not protic) but not PROTIC (another Chemistry word). MUTANT took the longest. For the answer, I correctly guessed the first three words, with MIX left over, so it was easy.

    Nice workout today.

  12. Angela – you normally let us the know the last time the words for used….unless I missed it. Two were new, but two had been used before. And if my math is right, if Jumbles have been created every day for 67 years, that’s over 24,455 Jumbles!

    • Hi Brad. No, you didn’t miss anything. Sometimes I don’t print out all the details. And I figured since I’d already spoken about it in both my poem and the post, I didn’t want it to look like I was beating a dead horse!…And hopefully here’s to the next 24K! Have a good night, Brad! Enjoy! 🔠🙋🏻‍♀️
