  1. HELLO EVERYONE ** I meant to post this earlier in the week, but unfortunately I forgot. But it’s not too late…To those of you who may not follow David on Facebook, I’d like to make you aware of a Zoom Event that he’s hosting tomorrow, Saturday, the 26th. Here’s the link to his post, and he said he’d be glad to hear from any and all puzzle enthusiasts…
So, should you be interested…please E-mail Claire Haasl at claire@davidlhoytfoundation.org to register for the event…Enjoy! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. Good Morning, Everyone. 💦 I hope this finds you…WELL! 💦

🎶 All day I’ve faced a barren waste without the taste of WATER, cool WATER…Old Dan and I with throats burned dry…And souls that cry for WATER…Cool, clear, WATER…🎶 “Cool, Clear Water” – Buster Scruggs 1936 https://tinyurl.com/y669ekyg

💦 Our puzzle seems so timely, but with a different bend,
My mind goes to the West Coast where some rain a hand would lend
I’m sure these people that we see have KNELT in supplication,
BEWARE the drought…they needed help with their dire situation…
I cannot see a GULCH in sight, so we cannot define
Where we might be but just the same, we’re seeing a good sign
Our man has dug for water, and things may now look up
The two men and PETITE woman…runneth over their cup!
We see the younger man about to make the whole town cheer…
    They’ll finally have some water…needed for WELL-BEING THERE 💦

With three of our words having been in play sometime this year, it’s just HUGLC that goes back a little further, to November 24th, 2018 to be exact, https://tinyurl.com/yxzuhbsw, where it appeared exactly as is. And, following suit, todays words were as easily solved as they’ve been throughout the week…cut and DRY so to speak…and the presence of the WELL in our cartoon made it easy to FLOW into today’s solve.

Going by the hats worn by our characters, this morning we may be finding ourselves somewhere out West. And we see a makeshift pump hit the Mother LODE. No, not oil…today we’ve dug for WATER…And while our cartoon seems to have a dated look, as I mentioned earlier…a DROUGHT is a drought…and just as our West Coast is CURRENTly in desperate need of water, so is this town. But our little group here couldn’t be happier having finally found a source for their much-needed RESOURCE. Water’s a necessity for ones WELL-BEING… https://tinyurl.com/yxrpookg, and we are THERE to witness the OUTPOURING of glee that’s now become the STREAM of consciousness for our characters today. They’re PUMPed!…DRIP, DRIP, Hooray!

And that’s all she wrote, Folks…not much more to DEW. Another great puzzle, thanks to David and Jeff…so there’s no need for me to DRILL it on home. Here’s hoping you all have a great day, and are BEING careful out THERE. Be WELL, and stay safe…💦🙋🏻‍♀️

….And continued thoughts and prayers for our neighbors on the Gulf and West Coasts. 🙏🏻

  3. 🦴 Sitting in class, and reading through the lesson on a GULCH, she dropped her pen, but being so PETITE couldn’t reach it, so she KNELT instead…and couldn’t help hearing her doctors voice… “BEWARE of damaging your brittle bones…think of your WELL-BEING THERE…”. 🦴

🙏🏻 Down in a GULCH of feeling sad, she KNELT and prayed for guidance,
Her property so damaged, a victim of subsidence…
Her body so PETITE and frail, she knew she must BEWARE,
And not go walking round the grounds looking for wear and tear
She hoped the land was salvageable…and for it she could care…
The old place meant so much to her…she loved…WELL…BEING THERE 🙏🏻

  4. Anagrams were easy but knelt and petite gave me reason to pause. As many letters as we had this morning, alarmed me at first, but well being was quickly followed by the complete well being there cartoon solution.

    • Good Morning, Professor. You know your comment about a lot of letters STRUCK pay dirt… I solve the puzzle without the words, so I really don’t pay much attention to the letters. But this morning I felt that the two words WELL-BEING alone would have been enough of a solve. The word THERE sounded a little off to me…that maybe the answer would have FLOWED a little better without it. We would have just left out the H in Gulch, the T E from Petite, and the R E from Beware. But that’s just my take on it…And when I mentioned it to my other, he said…”All WELL and good, but why don’t you just follow the DRILL, and not go DIGGING …just leave WELL enough alone”… To which I answered…”Hmph..WELL, excuse me”!…Anyway…your point’s WELL taken! Have a good one, Prof. Be WELL and stay safe out THERE! 💦🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Good morning. Had slight pause on the words but ran dry when it came time for the cartoon answer. No matter how much I drilled into the picture I couldn’t see the connection.Once I saw the answer which was excellent by the way, I should have gotten it. Loved the song choice Angela. You really went into the archives for that one. It’s been done by others which I do like much better. Tex Ritter for one. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Good Morning, Paul. I agree, it’s a very clever solution. And I like your word play! 👏🏻👏🏻…But as for the song goes? LOL…Tks…and yes, I did go DIGGING! And there’s a slew of artists out there that have recorded it…Marty Robbins, Frankie Laine, Vaughn Monroe, (who I think was the first), Sons of the Pioneers, Hank Williams…Fuhgettaboutit! The list RUNS DEEP! But I wasn’t HORSING around.😉..I listened to a lot of them this morning…but I went with this one because I liked the video! Have a good one, Brooklyn. Be well…and stay safe out there. 🐴🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Good morning again. Boy Angela, you came up with a great list of others that did that song. Just seeing their names brings back fond memories. Take care.

        • …And that might just be the tip of the iceberg. There’s so many of them. I know I have more than one 78 of it in my Fathers collection…but before this morning, it’s been years and years since I’ve heard it. (Now I can’t get it out of my head)! 😉 And it brings back memories for me too…because for some strange reason, it was a favorite of my Fathers. I remember him whistling it every time he’d hose down the yard! The man was born and lived his entire life in Brooklyn😂! I never quite got it! You take care too, Paul. Have a good one. 🐴💦🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. More of a challenge today. I first found three for the last word of the answer but it didn’t make much sense, even though there were three people in the picture. So I kept looking and noticed There.
    Wishing all a fun weekend.

    • Hi Caroline. Good to see you. I’ve missed you these past few days, and I hope all is well. And I like your observation. 👏🏻👏🏻 The 3 people in the cartoon, and the letters forming the word Three. It’s a clever connection…despite it throwing a monkey wrench into the mix. Once we get a word stuck in our heads? It’s not easy to break free…so I’m glad you got passed it. And THERE you go! 😉 Have a good one, Caroline. Be well, and stay safe out there. 💦🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Not too hard but spent some time to DEVINE the answer. Put down WELL then unjumbled BEING only to find THERE left over. Sweet Friday treat! Enjoyed all the commentary as WELL. Not a lot of DRILLing down for me, just enough to make it interesting.
Air a wee bit clearer in Burbank but fires still raging. Not sure how it’s going for our cousins in the Gulf but I hope Beta is enough alphabet for this year.
Let’s have a great weekend, all of us!!

    • Good Morning, Mig. Enough alphabet, indeed. Let’s hope the worst has passed, but I read this article the other day.. https://tinyurl.com/yynt9fcf, and my fingers are crossed…And THERE’s that THERE again. IDK…it’s definitely got me shaking my head. I’m going to say it again, maybe we just didn’t need the extra word. But anyway…Have a good one, Mig…and let’s hope you get some much needed rain to quench the fires. Be well…and stay safe out there. 💦🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. No problem with the anagrams but the cartoon answer took me longer simply because there were so many letters to deal with. I finally got well being but like Caroline, first saw “three” which didn’t make sense so ended up with “there”. Good workout this morning. Happy Friday to all.

    • Good Morning, Betty…https://tinyurl.com/y2mw5bp7 😉 Seems like we just can’t get away from it! As I just told Mig…🤷🏻‍♀️Beats me! Happy Friday to you too, Betty. Be well, stay safe…and BTW…how I love this song…💦🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Hi all – I’ll quote myself here, when yesterday’s puzzle was easy and I said “I’ll save that memory for the next time I have to give up on an answer.” I thought that might have come true today! Got the words, but then saw GHT and tried BRIGHT and RIGHT in the answer with no success. I finally went back to the cartoon and saw that WELL wasn’t in the dialog, and that led to WELL-BEING and the rest.

    Good wishes to everyone.

    He brings us no shame…
    The seasons are changing
Everyday in every way”🎵 (From Joni Mitchell’s first album)

‘Cause the vandals took the handle”🎵

Angela, I thought your poem about the gulch was particularly good today. And the song takes me right back to listening to AM radio and expecting to hear “Ghost Riders in the Sky” as the next selection.
The way I hear it, it seems to me that the word THERE kind of adds a double meaning to the puzzle – It’s both the people’s “well-being there” in the town, and also the “well being there” where it is, is good for them. (I’m having a hard time expressing what I mean.)

“As the rancher KNELT in the GULCH to follow the PETITE tracks of his calves, he forgot to BEWARE of the bull sneaking up behind him.”

    • Good Morning, Steve…and thank you. But I’m not sure which use of Gulch you mean. I kind of had a harder time with the poem for the puzzle..I just couldn’t get a bead on it. The second one came a lot easier…It’s always easier when you can choose your own theme…As for THERE, yes, I do understand what you mean. And I too thought along the same line…especially that a pun utilizing a true double meaning is always the best…but IDK, as I mentioned earlier, it just didn’t seem to FLOW right. But again, that’s just IMHO..with all due respect. …And you gave me a chuckle with your song snippet…It’s been a while since you’ve graced us with Joni’s presence…I started to BECOME 😉 worried!….😂 Have a good one, Steve. Be well and stay safe. 💦🙋🏻‍♀️

      • I liked the poem rhyming “guidance with “subsidence”.

(Joni may have been away vacationing on Hispaniola) 😉

        • ROTFL! Ah yes, Hispaniola! 👏🏻👏🏻! …OLA! 🙋🏻‍♀️! And subsidence? Yep…that one almost hurt! 😂 Tks again, Steve. Have a good one…🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. With today being National Daughters Day, I think it’s only proper that I give a Shout Out to all our female readers…While some of us may not have been fortunate enough to be blessed with Daughters…we’re all still Daughters ourselves. So here’s to us…🍷. May it be a wonderful day! ❤️ 🙋🏻‍♀️

  11. Today’s answer did not spring forth for me today. To tease me, it’s pouring rain as I type this. 😂

    • LOL! Poetic justice, huh? And I like your Spring Forth! 👏🏻👏🏻. Here’s to tomorrow, Agnes! Be well and stay safe out there. 💦🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. WELL, today wasn’t easy for me. In fact, I didn’t get it. The clues were no problem, but I too got sidetracked by -ight. Whenever I see -ght or -ing in the solution letters, it’s hard to pry my mind loose from those combinations. In this case, WELL looked right but just couldn’t rearrange the rest of the letters. Oh WELL.

I do admire the wordplay that you all are so good at, but I won’t try it, at least not for awhile and not ever often.

    • Hi Sandy. A case of not seeing the Forest for the ABC’s? 😉 It happens. The sidetracking…We’ve all been THERE. And you’re not alone as far as the solve goes..as you can see, there’s been quite a lot of “WATER they talking about”? going on today. It’s a very clever solve…but definitely one that’s getting an outPOURing of opinion. And if you’ll notice, that’s why I added the link to Merriam-Webster in my post…I thought Dave made a brilliant connection, with the people being so happy, and on their way to keeping healthy. Wit at its best…And as far as our word play? Thank you…it’s fun. But I doubt you’d have all that much trouble getting started. You said you love puns, and you’ve taken your first baby step already…You did say “Oh WELL”! 😉 Have a good night, Sandy…Be well…and stay safe out there. 💦🙋🏻‍♀️
