Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well…
📺 AND WITH THE CLICK OF A BUTTON…📺
🎶 You’re a GAME CHANGER…That’s what you are….Girl you changed the game on me…Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby…You’re a GAME CHANGER…That’s what you are…You changed the game on me…🎶 “Game Changer” – Johnny Gill 2014 https://tinyurl.com/y44d97zh
📺 In day’s before remote controls, ‘twas kids who had the job,
Of getting up and switching shows…the channel-changing knob…
People would grab what they would MUNCH and settle down to see
A favorite show…and Sports Fans chose a game on the TV…
Where most kids didn’t HAGGLE with their parents, they kept PEACE,
It was somewhat a burden…with convenience out of reach…
But then in 1955 leisure took a new bent…
The wireless remote was now what Zenith did invent…
And like an AVATAR released…people would now rejoice,
Just click the little button…and you get shows of your choice…
So Sports Fans loved the ease by which they’d go from Yanks to Rangers
Remote Controls had proved themselves to be the real GAME CHANGER! 📺
Working with just one repeat anagram, GHALEG, https://tinyurl.com/y28zcxr5, the Early Birds RAN through this mornings words with ease…making it into the END ZONE in no time. No FUMBLES, no need for a HAIL MARY, no SCRIMMAGING around…they were all a SNAP…and getting the solve came into PLAY just as easily. Would I call the puzzle a GAME CHANGER? https://tinyurl.com/y3xytla5…No, not really…but it definitely SCORED some POINTS…
Today we find ourselves WATCHING three distinctive looking middle-aged Sports Fans enjoying a Sunday afternoon watching the games. And while I mentioned Baseball and Hockey teams in my poetry, NY teams to boot, please note that it was merely to KICK OFF the rhyme…These guys are watching Football, the Detroit Lions to be exact, with a side interest in the NY Giants. And from the look of their surroundings: console TV, rabbit ear antenna placed upon a flowered doily, and the style of their hair and shirts, I’d say it’s circa 1960s. And from the looks of the remote, I’d say it CLICKS. As you can see from these great vintage ads, https://tinyurl.com/y2q24usc, while a wired remote was invented by Zenith in 1950, it wasn’t until 1955 that wireless ones hit the market. And for our three guys, now being able to CHANGE channels between two GAMES without leaving the comfort of their easy chairs, it was a WINNER. So wired or not, the Remote Control was definitely a GAME CHANGER. Good one, David…the crowd cheers!
Eye candy, I’ve pretty much mentioned it all above. But one thing’s PLAYING, I mean preying on my mind. The two cans the men are holding. I figure it’s beer. But if you zoom in and look closely, https://tinyurl.com/yy6qe8kt, there’s a hint of a logo on each. It looks like it may be an Evergreen tree…but I’m really not sure. And since we know that Jeff doesn’t just SET UP A PLAY for no reason…I’m TOSSING it out to you all. Kick the can…I mean pick the can…and you’ll be the true Jumble Winner today!…And writing this has me remembering the first time I saw a Universal Remote Control. I thought to myself…”Wow…this changes everything”…Be well, Everyone, and stay safe out there…📺🙋🏻♀️
…And continued thoughts and prayers to our readers on the Gulf and West Coasts. 🙏🏻
This one is seriously cooked. The remote control has made huge changes to our lives. We now spend more time sitting in a chair or couch changing channels with the remote instead of getting up to manually change the channel. Therefore there is another solution to this Jumble: MEGA CHANGER.
Good Morning…Sorry, Jim. You may have had a FIELD day with this…but I’m calling INTERFERENCE on your play. The question clearly states/asks what the Remote Control did for SPORTS FANS…So Mega’s just gonna have to take a HIKE. Have a good one, Jim. Be well and stay safe out there…📺🏈🙋🏻♀️
I still say MEGA CHANGER. Mega means million, and certainly the remote has affected millions of sports fans.
God knows we all know what Mega means. We’ve heard it ad nauseam…And I’m not looking to CHANGE your mind…So POINT we’ll taken…But again, as far as “this” puzzle goes…mega isn’t even REMOTEly close…No PUNt intended…And my GOAL here is to WIN one for David..So I’m just going to CHANNEL his thought…and call it a PLAY! 🏈🙋🏻♀️
MEGA may work, but in the cartoon they are LITERALLY changing the game!
The pun takes precedence (in my opinion), although I do enjoy the alternate wordplay.
Hmm. Is there an echo in here? 🗣😉🙋🏻♀️
🤷🏻♂️ Trying to pick a new AVATAR, which could be a GAME CHANGER for him, he sat displeased with what his wife had chosen for him to MUNCH on, but deciding to keep the PEACE and not looking to HAGGLE, he kept his opinion to himself…🤷🏻♂️
🥜 They all began to HAGGLE, and no PEACE was had for days,
They could have used an AVATARs divine incarnate ways…
But all he really cared about was what they had to MUNCH,
He’d let them just keep arguing…this wild and crazy bunch…
He’d learned a lesson early on…to speak up could be danger…
So he ate nuts and made the choice to not be the GAME CHANGER! 🥜
Good morning. Got sidetracked with phone calls. Today’s jumble was easy breezy again from the words to the cartoon answer. After seeing the letters my first thought was Game Changer but I would give a half point at least for Jim’s answer of Mega. I like your explanation Angela but if I thought of Mega I’d want somebody to say that’s not a bad substitute. I tip my hat to you Jim. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
LOL! Good Morning, Brooklyn. Please keep in mind, the solution’s not of my doing! I’m just the messenger! 😂 So it’s not really my explanation, it’s David’s…And I did say that Jim’s point was well taken…Plus, let’s be honest here…you know I’m just bandying words with him. But it may have more to do with the fact that I’ve grown to abhor the word mega! 😂 Anyway, no harm, no FOUL…and I’m PASSING on anything else! Be well Paul…and stay safe out there…📺🙋🏻♀️
I well remember having the channel changing job when we got our first TV,a 12 inch B&W Higbee’s model TV.Zenith’s remote was Space Command tuning. As far as today’s puzzle ,I wasn’t sure Avatar was a word other than a movie name, but the cartoon solution was a quick obvious solve.
Good Morning, Professor. Yes, it is a quick obvious solve today. And a clever one too. And I enjoyed reading about Zenith’s innovations…I’d never heard Space Command tuning until this morning…Have a good one, Prof. Be well and stay safe out there. 📺🙋🏻♀️
To all our Jewish neighbors celebrating the start of ROSH HASHANAH tonight…May this New Year be filled with health, happiness, and sweet moments for you and yours. L’shanah Tovah! 🍎🍯🍷🙋🏻♀️
Surprisingly easy for a Friday. Ah the remote!!! As a kid we changed channels manually and guess who was the remote for my granny and parents? Then I bought a big Zenith with a real remote… the problem was that it turned clockwise and for every number(13) it CLONK and at night, I often woke someone especially when I missed the channel and had to CLONK 12 times to get to my channel. Then , married, with the latest remote, we always were searching for the darn remote so now in the family room, I have 5 remotes!!! And we still look for one of them at times! How spoil we can be!
LOL! Too funny, Christian! Thanks for sharing! And I’ve heard so many stories of the kids in the family being the “remotes” back in the day! That’s what prompted me to CHANNEL the thought into my rhyme! 😉 And yes, it is an easy one today. Cute and clever…I hope you’re enjoying your day, and not working too hard…Be well, Christian..and stay safe out there…📺🙋🏻♀️
FOR ANY OF OUR READERS WHO MAY NOT FOLLOW JUMBLE ON FACEBOOK, THIS WAS POSTED A FEW MOMENTS AGO…Perhaps you may consider following them…There’s always something fun to see! 🙋🏻♀️
“We’d love to answer some of the questions that you may have about JUMBLE, the two of us, etc. We’ll post video answers when we can. Please post your questions here in the comments. Thank you for playing JUMBLE and for giving us such fun jobs. We really appreciate it!”
David & Jeff
Imagine a Jumble showing a group of dinosaurs sitting around talking about how when they were young THEY were the remote control…..oh, is that US????
Another easy day. The words were a snap, it took me a little longer to get GAME CHANGER but I got there!
I enjoyed this one a lot. If the beer can has a pine tree on it perhaps there is a beer brand associated with Stanford?
Thanks for all of your work Angela, it adds immensely to the fun!!!
Tks, Mig…I try! 😉 I like the Stanford suggestion, but I don’t think the beer has a West Coast connection. If it is a regional beer, YEAST of all, if anything, I think it would be more Michigan related. And as I mentioned, the pine tree might be a stretch…I really can’t make out what’s on the can…But thanks for the suggestion. Have a good one, Mig. Be well and stay safe out there.🍻🙋🏻♀️
Stanford’s “Palo Alto” is a Coast Redwood, “knot” a pine 🌲😂
Thanks Steve. My level of penetration was that it is a tree and also mascot to their wacky marching band.
Yep, me too – I had to google it. And that mascot could be *any* kind of tree – or entity for that matter! 😂
Easy one for Friday so we’re ending up the week on a positive note. The remote was indeed a game changer at our house, as was the addition of the Mute button and now if you record a program you can fast forward through the commercials. Will wonders never cease? Happy Friday to all. Stay well.
LOL…Wonders! Exactly! Although I often like to watch commercials. Some of them are so creative. I wanted to do that when I was younger. Go into Advertising…But life happened instead…so I didn’t get to BUY into it…Yet sometimes I still wonder what it might have been like…Wishing you a Happy Friday too, Betty. Be well and stay safe out there. 📺🙋🏻♀️
Both of my parents were in advertising, my dad even claimed to have invented the 3 sided billboard that turned and had 3 different ads on it. I had part time gigs in their offices at times. It seems smoking and drinking were prerequisites to be in advertising in those days….
Maybe I’ll work on a jingle for ‘JUMBLE-aya’, eh?
I think smoking and drinking were prerequisites for a lot of industries back then…Totally different times. But how cool that must have been for you…I had friends with their toes in the water, and I dabbled…but as I said it never came to fruition…But a jingle? Why not? I have a few under my belt too…but considering this is a family-oriented blog? Let’s just say…😷😂🙋🏻♀️
Very true. If Angela is this group’s mascot what kind of tree is she?
Whoa!!! Mascot? Tree? Let’s not get carried away here…🙅🏻♀️
Well a redwood is tall and sturdy, that ain’t bad!
Hmmm. I think I’ll just LEAF it all alone! 🙅🏻♀️
Hi all – Instant solve on everything toady, with the double-letter trick helping out on HAGGLE.
Gotta love that classic old console TV (we had an Admiral) and how they’ve at least updated to a sleek, modern version of rabbit ears. (And is that a doily I see it sitting on? 😂) Had to go online to see my two other favorite details – the remote that has only two giant buttons, and the beer cans each with two triangular holes that show they were opened with a can opener in the age before pull-tabs. Angela, I would always think Hamm’s for a midwestern beer, but none of their logos seem to match. The mountain would be Coors, but it would be unlikely that they’d have any at that early date.
Funny coincidence that I was just thinking about how I didn’t really care whether a recording of a game I had made yesterday had missed the end, because I had so many other ways to see it online, which got me thinking about watching TV without even a remote when you just turned to the channel you wanted and sat there through the program and all the commercials (which still live in my head!)
Good wishes to everyone.
“I don’t want to HAGGLE over which AVATAR to use here; I’ll just take whatever’s assigned and MUNCH my chips in PEACE while scrolling through the posts.”
PS Angela, I got a laugh from your working the Rangers into your post. Unfortunately after last night’s game, NO MAN advancing in the Stanley Cup playoffs IS AN ISLANDER. 😢 Let’s go, ex-Shark Joe Pavelski, my favorite remaining OGWAC (Old Guy Without A Cup)!
But…I wasn’t trying to be funny! I had no choice…As I said, I needed the rhyme! 😉 But as far as the islanders go…you gotta give them major props. Serious major props. They fought tooth and nail…and pushed the Lightning to its limits. And here in NY, we’re still proud of ‘em…🏒 🙋🏻♀️
And rightly so. I was surprised to read how close Jon Cooper and Barry Trotz are. Trotz consoled Cooper when the Lightning were swept after winning the President’s Trophy because he’d been there with the Capitals.
A true Sportsman knows how to transcend rivalry and pettiness. Too bad there’s not more of it…🤷🏻♀️
Amen to that! Of course it helps that they had known each other for a very long time.
Yeah, I scanned through some logos myself. And mountain did PASS through my mind too…but I still came up dry. (No pun intended)! But I have to ask? Are you NEEDLEing me about the doily? 😉 Have a good one, Steve. Be well and stay safe out there…🍻🙋🏻♀️
So first of all I’m back from a 45 day hiatus from my local paper who was fleecing me for $100 per month with little substantive content. (They got me back with a super deal). Must say I am a creature of habit who looks forward to real paper to hold and read . So after over 200 crosswords and couple of novels I am happily settling in to challenge of Jumble solves. I agree with most – fairly easy solve upon correlating the sports fans to the “Clicker” (Haha – took over 20 years to call it a remote). Anyway – good banter and nice to be back with Angela and friends. Think I’ll order myself a MEGA lobster roll for tonight. Just going to munch in peace and will not haggle over price of fresh meat. Off to consult with my local seafood avatar. We originally had sought fresh cod but the thought of lobster was the game changer of the day.
👏🏻👏🏻! Well done, Jim. Good to see you again, too. Enjoy your dinner…and stay safe out there..📺🙋🏻♀️
