I also had fit on the pole as my solution.Having pole as my 4 letter answer threw me off.

🎶 Keeping with the true SPIRIT of NOVEL home decor, his TOP OF THE LINE ideas, such as placing the speakers in the FOYER, allowed the MELODY of each recording to greet his visitors, since it resonated into the entranceway…🎶
❤️ He placed the NOVEL down upon the desk in the FOYER,
And hoped that she would notice…that he did it just for her…
He had her favorite MELODY playing as she walked in,
The SPIRIT of the things she loved…he hoped would bring a grin
And as dinner was cooking…and he’d chosen his best wine…
He sighed and hoped he’d proven that she’s his TOP OF THE LINE…❤️
Hi all – Got the words with just a slight pause at NOVEL. I did need the letters to get the answer. I thought the equipment might be so good it was “OFF THE HOOK.” Then I thought it was something “ON THE LINE”, but the letters showed OF and the rest.
My first thought when the guy said he needed to upgrade his equipment was the old saying “It’s a poor workman blames his tools”, but I’m sure better stuff does make it easier.
No sinking sailboat in the cartoon today, I guess.

Foyer took me the longest to figure out this morning but everything fell into place without difficulty. It’s a bright and sunny day here. Hope it’s pleasant in your little corner of the world.
Hesitation with FOYER however I had FIT ON THE POLE which makes as much none sense as TOP OF THE LINE! Not the best of jumbles today!

With all due respect, I think you may not be CATCHING David’s LINE of thinking! 😉 And missing all of Jeff’s great dialogue clues…The woman saying “You got your money’s worth”…and the guy who’s sitting saying that he needs to “upgrade his equipment”. They’re both obviously using a cheaper LINE of fishing apparatus. And as with most things in life…You get what you pay for. Our man of the FLOUNDER, I mean hour, has paid for equipment that’s TOP OF THE LINE, the best… https://tinyurl.com/y44dnsbt. And, if nothing else, the words FIT ON THE POLE could never follow the question, since the word “were” is there…It just doesn’t read correctly. So…I hope this helps.
