Good Morning, Everyone!

🎶 Have you ever been UP…Have you ever been DOWN…Have you ever been lost…Have you ever been found…Have you ever been RIGHT…Have you ever been WRONG…Have you COME UP SHORT…Can you come along…Have you left a mark…Have you left alone…Have you seen the way…Can you come back home…Short stories…🎶 “Short Stories” – Harry Chapin  1973

🔨Sometimes you notice what’s gone wrong…a SIGHT for the sore eyes,
Instead of looking straight and SMOOTH, there’s trouble with the rise…
The staircase’s looking TIPSY, the measurements askew,
A PIRATE job of plundering…is what they’ll say of you…
The ball was dropped, the stairs are off…you should have done some preps…
‘Cause now you’re feeling down, not up…faced with all the MISSTEPS…🔨

As strange as it seems, I came up empty looking for PIRATE this morning. It’s like someone went into the Archives and just looted it…and I really searched too. Trust me, I put my blood, sweat and stairs into it…but I just couldn’t nail it down. Maybe I just got a step ahead of myself, since we’ve had so many Pirate-themed puzzles in the past? Hmm, maybe. But, bottom line, I guess we’re seeing another new word today. Our other words? All Sweet Repeats, with just one re-tread of an anagram, in GHIST, from 01/08/18. We have TIPSY coming up as our oldie, having appeared way back on 01/02/12, while SMOOTH holds down the newest slot, having last been seen in June of 2018. And it was only Pirate that caused the Early Birds to take a second look…two of them saw repeat…Ok, enough time spent here…let’s step forward to our cartoon…

Our setting today appears to be someone’s home…perhaps a hi-rise. We meet two carpenters, in the process of building a staircase. But our dialogue is telling us that things aren’t all on the up-and-up. Apparently the younger of the two workers, obviously a lesser measure of a man, has misjudged the height of the risers… which is the vertical distance between the walking surface of two stair treads (treads are what you step on), and it’s definitely getting a rise out of his older partner. That man’s overheard saying that he stated what the height of the risers should be, 7 1/2 inches, which on average, is what American architects have used as a standard height. But then again, maybe he’s telling him that they are 7 1/2 inches…and he didn’t want them to be? It’s a little vague…Either way, one thing’s for sure. This job’s not going well because of all the MISSTEPS…That you can definitely nail down!

Eye candy? Hmm. I don’t mean to sound condescending, but wood you believe there’s not much to get into? It’s all pretty cut and dry…We see the two carpenters, wearing their waist aprons…The one on the ground has a hammer attached, and is holding a tape measure, while the younger one, standing near the top at the most ill-measured step is bare-handed…And the second and third step from the ground also look to be larger than the others…So, I think I’ll just go with our younger guy scratching his head, looking totally bewildered…he just seems wrong on so many levels…So, There you have it, Folks..Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And keep in mind…It’s important to hire someone who really knows a stair…well, and is going to step up and assure you a job well done…Otherwise you’ll just end up being let down….🔨🙋🏻‍♀️

  1. 🇺🇸 Let us remember today the men and women who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor. And may God Bless America. 🇺🇸

  2. 🚶🏻The guy dressed in the PIRATE costume thought he was so SMOOTH, but as the night wore on, and he became increasingly TIPSY, he was quite the SIGHT…taking MISSTEPS as he tried to walk..🚶🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. 🎬 He caught glimpse of the PIRATE as he came upon the screen,
And Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow was a SIGHT to be seen…
He acted kind of TIPSY, but that was his MO,
SMOOTH operator was he…nowhere the average Joe…
Too bad that Disney dropped him though, no more will they cast Depp,
It looks like Johnny just took one too many wild MISSTEPS…🎬

  4. Good morning. No problem today on either the words or cartoon answer. Nothing more to say except that the Queen of Puns (Angela) was on her game today. But, the song choice had me take an early exit. All these years not hearing it meant I didn’t miss much. You and Mike always start our day off in a good frame of mind. Thank you for that. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn…I’m with you, it’s a piece of cake today. And I had a feeling you might not go for my song choice…I know you well. But Harry Chapin put out some good music..I think he was underrated…and unfortunately he died so young…(today would have been his Birthday)…who knows what might have been. Anyway…Thanks so much for the Shout Out., and you’re very welcome. You know I enjoy giving you a smile. Have a great day, Paul. Stay warm…🔨🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Because the PIRATE only had SIGHT in one eye, he wasn’t the SMOOTH ladies man he thought he was, especially when he was TIPSY.

    • Good Morning, Chuck. The one-eyed Pirate…the patch..of course! 👏🏻👏🏻Well done! Wishing you a great day! 🔨🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Sight gave me a little reason to pause w tight coming to mind first, but the other anagrams followed quickly as did the puzzle solution w steps an obvious part of the solve.Given the
7 1/2 inches comment,I thought high might be part of the solution.Speaking of Dec 7, the day of infamy.my Uncle Al, who served 4 years in the navy in WW2, was born on Dec 7 so shared his birthday w Pearl Harbor Day.

    • Good Morning, Professor. Yes, Steps was a given. And I guess your Uncle always had something to talk about when his birthday came around. It’s a hard day to forget. Enjoy your day, Prof. 🔨🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. I actually had to back into pirate today. Aargh!! The cartoon answer was a given. Wishing all of you a good Saturday.

    • LOL! I like your Aargh! Pirate’s definitely the stumper today, and I still can’t believe we haven’t seen it before. But I bet we’ll remember it for the next time! Hope you have a wonderful day, Betty. Enjoy! 🔨🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. Hi all – (Sorry if this is a duplicate; I was having some trouble posting earlier) The words weren’t so easy for me today. I was stuck on both TIPSY (seeing TYPIST) and PIRATE. I saw the answer, but even backing into the words was harder than usual because both P and T could have gone in either one. Got PIRATE first.

Got a good laugh from “con-descending”, Angela! Maybe these guys are on work-release.

Have a great day everyone! Just before Thanksgiving the ‘drought’ word was starting to be used, but our parade of storms has erased both that and fire season.

“They finally found out the MISSTEPS that cost the PIRATE one eye – it wasn’t a SMOOTH move to SIGHT the sun through the sextant while TIPSY.”

I don’t know whether I’ve mentioned this here before, but I remember my father telling me about hearing the news of Dec. 7 on the radio. He said everyone had two reactions – One, “Wow, I guess we really are actually going to go to war” and Two, “Where the hell is Pearl Harbor?”

    • LOL! A second drunken Pirate? Who’d have thought? 😉 Nicely done, Steve,,,👏🏻👏🏻And I’m glad the rains came…Have a great day! And thanks for the Shout Out! 🔨🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. I was 9 yrs old, heard the terrible news on our radio. Whole family upset as my Uncle was stationed in Pear Harbor! He was wounded during the attack, recovered and then landed on Iwo Jima with the Marines and severly wounded then! Lost his right leg and was sent home to NYC.

    • Dear Veronica. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for him and your family. My parents would speak about that day once in a while, and I could still hear the sadness in their voices. It was such a terrible day for our country. Your Uncle was definitely one of our country’s finest, and I’ll say a prayer in his memory. Thank you for writing in, and we hope you’ll do so again in the future. God bless you. 🇱🇷🙋🏻‍♀️
