Happy Tuesday, Jumble fans! It’s day #2 of Guest Jumbler Week and today we welcome cartoonist Dan McConnell. Dan’s work has been featured in MAD Magazine, Reader’s Digest, The Good Life Magazine, and my personal favorite, Marvel Comics! I had a little extra time to check out his Facebook page this morning and he has many examples of his artwork posted for all to see.  Welcome to the Jumble Club, Mr. McConnell!!!

Right out of the gate we ran into a brand new clue word. FILLY can now be added to the Jumble lexicon, but it didn’t stirrup as much trouble as this solver would have liked. The honors for most difficult word, in my opinion, belong to TEACUP. It was the only part of the entire puzzle to slow me down, and it did the same the last time it was in gameplay on 3/21/19. I kept trying to make words with an AC or EC ending to no avail. A couple of self-jumbles in the margin of my paper brought the naughTEA answer into view and I was then free to give the cartoon a whirl!

Today’s panel looks like it was taken directly from the pages of MAD Magazine. The characters, a man and a woman, don’t have that sleeply look on their faces so I’d assume that the test drive of this toothbrush is occurring during the late evening hours. The swirl in the man’s eye, coupled with the twenty or so action lines around his head, lets us know that this battery-operated toothbrush is providing a thorough cleaning. I made the switch from a manual brush to an electric a few years back and the difference was astounding. It’s like trading in the Flinstone’s foot-powered vehicle for a Ferrari!!! I particularly enjoyed the toothpaste foam pouring out of his mouth, but my favorite detail was the fact that his hand had ALL FIVE DIGITS. That’s something we almost never see!!!

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 12-letters which was one letter longer than yesterday’s. Since the solution was one large word, ELECTRIFYING popped into my head and was I ever surprised when the clue letters confirmed my suspicion. The layout was pretty nifty and didn’t give anything away so I can see how many of you are struggling to come up with it. Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

***UPDATE: The Jumble guys had this to say about Dan McConnell on their Facebook page.  They do a small write-up every morning for each guest Jumbler so be sure to follow their page!

  1. Good Morning, Mike and Everyone. I had myself BRACEd up for a harder one today, but I guess we’ll just BRUSH that aside, because for a TOOTHSday, this is just way too easy, breezy. My FLOSSophy? Maybe I’m just getting way too PICKy…Anyway, I copied and PASTEd this in, and now I’ll have a BITE to eat…nothing too FILLING though, because I’ll be leaving in a while to go shopping at the GAP, and I can always grab a PLATE of something at the MOLAR the diner! Have a great day, Everyone! And CHEWS to do something worthy of a CROWN today! 🦷🙋🏻‍♀️

    🎶 I got chills…they’re multiplying….And I’m losing control…’Cause the power you’re supplying It’s ELECTRIFYING!… You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)…Oo-oo-oo, Honey…The one that I want (you are the one I want)…Oo-oo-oo, Honey…The one that I want (you are the one I want)…Oo-oo-oo, the one I need (one I need)….Oh, yes, indeed (yes indeed)…🎶 “The One That I Want” – John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John 1978 https://tinyurl.com/lvju64g

🦷 The theories, they all differ…from the dentist to your mate,
Who says they find them better…who thinks they’re hardly great…
I guess it’s all a private choice, like those who swear by TWINE,
To try and get a kids tooth out…which I think hardly fine…
Are we just kind of lazy? Is this something we FORGOT?
The less we do, the worse we get…to exercise or not?
What’s wrong with brushing like we did for ‘lo these many years?
I feel if this keeps up we’ll end up stagnant beyond years…
A tempest in a TEACUP?…(I know it should be pot…
(Maybe I should have re-wrote here…I could have used forgot)…
I just don’t see the big allure, this brush seems somewhat silly,
But then again, I guess they sell…(and here I’m dumping FILLY)…
There’s just one thing I’m questioning, ‘cause if not I’d be lyin’
The question’s stating “Battery” …so why ELECTRIFYING? 🦷

  2. ☕️ As she gently wrapped the packages with TWINE, she realized that she FORGOT to ask the shopkeeper if the antique TEACUP with the image of a FILLY, that she found so ELECTRIFYING, was still for sale…☕️🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. Good morning. If I knew how to cut and paste, this could be yesterday’s reply. The words were easy and the cartoon answer took much longer to get, but when I did, I got an electrifying satisfaction. Until tomorrow stay well.

  4. The anagrams came quickly, even teacup, but the puzzle solution gave me reason to pause ,though the ‘ing’ ending was obvious ,with frightening being my first thought, but seeing the guy’s hair on end, electrifying came to mind.

  5. Good one again today. Teacup took me the longest to figure out too. Know it tripped me up before. Doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult but so it goes. Got the cartoon answer without any problem and loved the photo. Have a good Tuesday all!

  6. Hi all – Easy one again today; just a slight pause to separate the two parts of TEA-CUP and the answer was obvious.
Funny, I haven’t seen the artist’s work, but as soon as I saw the picture I thought Mad Magazine before I read the credits.

Mike, you made me laugh with deserving a PLAQUE in the voting. If an expert teacher of the history of cartoons is printing out his students’ lessons, does he format it using “comic sans-ei”?

I didn’t know the lyrics to the “Grease” song Angela, but your other word made me laugh:
    🎵”We’re always happy
    Life’s for living, yeah that’s our FLOSS-ify”🎵

    Have a great day, everyone!

“He wasn’t really listening and FORGOT what she said when she asked for a present for her FILLY, so instead he got her something frilly; a TWINE-wrapped TEACUP from Yankee Candle”. (And he’s sleeping in the stable tonight.)
