Happy Thursday, everyone. Something tells me that even though mommy looks really mad right now, they’ll both kiss and makeup in no time! No real surprises when it came to the clue words as they’ve all been applied before. Both of the 6-letter anagrams are coming up as new though. SPRUNG last sprang into the game on 12/02/12 making it our oldest word while DRAWN wasn’t as sketchy and last popped up on 6/5/18. Early polling suggests that OFTEN was the hardest word today, so I’ll roll with the crowd and make it my pick too.

Today’s balm of a cartoon featured an innocent looking young girl that’s been unsupervised for a few minutes too long. Apparently that’s all the time it took for her to rifle through mom’s purse and find the magic crayon that she’s been hiding! On the wall are two smiley faces that the dialogue informs us are graphic representations of her and her mom, but they fail to impress her target audience, and now she’s in hot water. If the little girl truly wants to be a guerilla graffiti artist like Banksy, she’ll have to learn to be a little more discreet!

Jeff painted on the details rather thick this morning, and my favorite was the tube of lipstick with the smooshed tip. The budding artist has a bow in her hair, a shirt with a bee flying towards a flower, and a doll by her side. The contents of the spilled purse appear to be headphones, a coin, and something round that resembles a compact. Jeff also added a light switch and baseboard to his piece which gave the drawing some dimension and a cozy domestic feel.

For the third day in a row our final solve was an anagram consisting of 11-letters. The layout was fantastick and gave nothing away. Surprisingly, the foundation for the solution was the frown on the mother’s face and not the drawings on the wall. If you overlooked that tiny detail then you might have ended up wearing one yourself. I managed to pull this one off by trial and error and it took a good 5 minutes or so to complete. It’s the hardest solution we’ve had in over a week so it was definitely a welcomed challenge. Have a terrific Thursday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good morning. Not my day today. It took me forever to finally get SPRUNG and the cartoon answer was worse. I decided to give in and be free of anxiety. Now I can move on with a clear head. Until tomorrow stay well.

  2. Good Morning, Mike. Good Morning, Everyone…💄🙋🏻

🎶 Lipstick on your collar told a tale on you…Lipstick on your collar said you were untrue…Bet your bottom dollar…you and I are through ‘Cause lipstick on your collar told a tale on you…🎶 “Lipstick on Your Collar” 1959 https://tinyurl.com/yy3a3pp2

💄 I OFTEN find it funny that throughout my childhood,
I never once wrote on a wall, though one would think I would.
A child DRAWN to mayhem, I wasn’t all that sweet,
    A Tomboy and “precocious”…and refusing all defeat…
Determined…well more stubborn, and my Mother often said,
That she felt something SPRUNG inside my thick, obstinate head
I’d take a DOUBLE dare as soon as give in to another…
…I look back now and wonder how she survived…my dear Mother.
But then one day discovering the lipstick, Toms and Dons?
It was my Dad’s turn now to be the one who FROWNED UPON! 💄

  3. 🏇 He applied for the job as soon as he was SPRUNG from jail, and OFTEN volunteered for any shift where he’d earn DOUBLE time, just to keep busy, but he was still DRAWN to the racetrack, which his parole officer adamantly stressed was very much FROWNED UPON… 🏇

♥️♣️Adept at playing Blackjack…she OFTEN kept her cool,
And quietly she’d count the cards…knowing it broke the rules…
She knew when she should DOUBLE down, and when to just stay pat,
And watched the cards the dealer’d DRAWN until her turn at bat…
Her eyes adroit at scanning, she made sure no eyelid SPRUNG
A pit boss who was savvy? Guaranteed she’d end up hung.
But her luck held…and soon enough she got up and was gone…
Another day she got away with what was FROWNED UPON♦️♠️

  4. I knew it was coming, —- the cartoon answer stumped me today. Got the anagrams without difficulty but that was it. You’re so right about the Mom’s eyebrows, Mike – I just didn’t focus on the right part of the cartoon. Love the subtle clues which sometimes just elude me. Well, happy Thursday to all and tomorrow is another day.

  5. Hi all – DOUBLE took one extra look, SPRUNG took two, and OFTEN took three before putting the ‘O’ first. For the answer I was thinking something like ARTISTIC LICENSE or maybe COSMETIC DAMAGE. I (obviously) had to write down the letters, but then saw it right away.

Thanks for all the details Mike, and ‘foundation’ made me laugh.

Excellent poem and song today Angela. I really liked how all the lines scanned. And I’m with Chuck, always liked Connie Francis too; probably saw her on American Bandstand several times.

Have a great day everyone! We’re having a mini heatwave (by our standards) for a couple of days, so I just finished watering all the plants, mostly old roses.

“Once spring had SPRUNG, the DOUBLE hung curtains were OFTEN DRAWN against the sun, as getting heatstroke was FROWNED UPON”.

    • Tks, G. I still pull her music out of the vault every once in a while. Beautiful voice. ..The video’s so campy though, right? ….And I like your sentence slant. 👏🏻👏🏻 Double is so versatile a word! Wishing you a great one too…🙋🏻

  6. Good afternoon. Loved your song choice Angela. I know my wife checked my collar when I came home from an outing with the boys. At least I think she did. But there was never any reason for her to worry. One of my buddies at work use to break my horns and joke around playing like a gay and I warned him a few times he better stop. Well this time he grabbed me like he was going to kiss me and I sucked on his neck which gave him a big hickey and I busted out hysterically and told him now explain to your wife that a guy gave it to you. That was the last time he ever joked around with me. He’s lucky his wife never called me to verify because I would have played it like I didn’t know what she was talking about. Take care.

    • 😂😂 Brooklyn…You’ve given me the laugh I’ve needed for the past two days..you do have a wicked sense of humor…And I can just picture the look on the guys face…Are you still friends?😉 As for the song…Thanks…it is a goodie. And as for a memory.. I remember my Father whistling it a lot of times when He’d be tying a tie…funny the things that stick in our heads, right? Good day for NY Baseball so far.. Nice win for the Yanks, better one for the Mets…Hope you have a good night, Brooklyn. 🙋🏻
