CARTOON ANSWER:
THE CAR DEALERSHIP PUT UP NEW BILLBOARDS TO – – –
VER FRT OC FIE DIM RA = DRIVE MORE TRAFFIC
Good Morning, Everyone! 🚙 STEERING YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION…🚙
🎶 Baby you can DRIVE my car…Yes I’m gonna be a star. Baby you can DRIVE my car…And maybe I’ll love you…Beep beep’m beep beep yeah…”Drive My Car” – The Beatles – 1965
🚙 While advertising’s needed to make a business thrive
The VERBAL‘s sometimes not enough to give it all the drive…
But Billboards get the word out, a SPRAWL for all to see
With slogans kind of BOUNCY…that fit it to a T…
Some show a frisky FELINE touting cat food of a brand
There’ll be no “I FORGOT” with that big picture of the can…
So this guy in the Car business…got rid of his DISMAY
By steering traffic towards his shop in such a simple way…
His logo on a Billboard, his face there in the pic…
He’s managed to increase his sales besides DRIVE MORE TRAFFIC…🚙
With early morning scheduling issues taking a TOLL, I wasn’t able to do an in-depth search of our Archives. But it looks like BOUNCY and FELINE may be first timers. I did find Bounce a few times though, so that may be why Bouncy seems so familiar. Actually, both of them seem too familiar and mainstream to be NEW MODELS, so I’m hoping David may shed some light…And SPRAWL, seen way back on January 22nd, 2012, and as recently as September 3rd, 2018, serves double duty today, as our oldest and our newest word…
Today’s cartoon brings us outdoors to the site of a rather desolate two-way road, a ROAD LESS TRAVELED, appearing to be outside city limits. A new BILLBOARD has been erected, and our characters, BOB, appearing to be a Texan, the owner of a local Car Dealership, and his companion, who I’ll call MERCEDES, an enthusiastic young assistant who seems very DRIVEN, are admiring the Billboard and singing its praises. Bob is thrilled with its look, and is WRECKening that’s it’s visibility will DRIVE up sales, while Mercedes BENDS over backwards assuring him that TRAFFIC is already ROLLING in…So, in answer to our question…Bob put up the Billboard to…DRIVE MORE TRAFFIC! Ok, did I get this one off the top of my head?…No. But after PULLING OUT the word TRAFFIC from our letters, DRIVE could be seen, leaving the word MORE…and it clicked..line a SEAT BELT…
OK, eye candy…With a black silhouetted city skyline as the backdrop, the panel and all its vehicles are shaded in blue. Bob’s dressed in brown Western attire, complete with a bolo tie, and a reddish colored 10-Gallon hat, adorned with a feathered crest. Mercedes, a blonde, sports a wine colored top with black pants. The Billboard is bright yellow, and depicts the BOB’S AUTO logo, a STEER, which makes the slogan…”STEER into Bob’s Auto” all the MORE clever. But the eye catcher today is seen on the car STEERing the TRAFFIC towards that RIGHT TURN...If you look real closely, the License Plate reads: “JMBLN”…JUMBLING…And we need not be ROADS Scholars to PICK UP on that line! So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…and by now we all AUTO know…Don’t Drink and DRIVE… So, CARpe diem…and stay safe this Holiday weekend…🚙🙋🏻
To our DISMAY, even though our new BOUNCY FELINE pet showed little VERBAL communication ability, when she was hungry, she never FORGOT to SPRAWL herself in front of the refrigerator.
Good Morning, Chuck. Fabulous entry! 👏🏻👏🏻 Major Kudos on its cleverness…Very well done! And even though I know I AUTO be STEERING my attention towards a million other things, since I started this very early this morning..(only to RUN OUT OF GAS and fall asleep),..I’m giving it the GREEN LIGHT just the same and throwing it out there…I hope you enjoy it..Ok…I really need to CARpe diem now.. 🚙🙋🏻
° Hoping to DRIVE MORE TRAFFIC past it, but working with only a VERBAL agreement, the entertainment director for the community fair went ahead and brought in the FELINE-themed BOUNCY House, but much to his DISMAY he FORGOT how wide a SPRAWL it needed…and the fair organizers disallowed it’s use…
° He told her that he just FORGOT, and much to her DISMAY
His promises while VERBAL ended up just a display…
With FELINE-like abilities, he’d cooed and then he purred…
And she kept falling for his lies…whenever they occurred.
Her BOUNCY personality took on a darkened SPRAWL,
She had to face the fact that he was no good after all…
To DRIVE MORE TRAFFIC towards a man who didn’t do what’s right,
Would end up a disaster, so she just gave up the fight…
I hope your day improves, Angela. Thanks for the nice things you said! I appreciate same.
Hi Chuck, you’re very welcome. And thank you…I just have a habit of juggling too much…And despite being ambidextrous…I don’t always succeed in keeping all the balls in the air! 😂 So sometimes, I just DRIVE myself crazy! 😂 The TRAFFIC’s slowing down though…and things are beginning to RUN smoothly…Hoping you have a wonderful day, Chuck! Enjoy! 🚙🙋🏻
Good morning. Maybe it was lack of sleep because I hit the hay after 2:30am and got up at 7:00am and didn’t have a sound sleep for those three hours.Took me some time to get all the words wihich to my dismay, dismay took the longest. The cartoon answer was just the opposite though. After writing down all the letters I saw drive then more which left me with traffic. Angela nice entire post, even the song choice which I’ll skip because you know why. They happen to be my oldest sons favorite group. Two of my favorite groups are on Broadway now. Until tomorrow stay well.
Good Morning, Brooklyn. Sleep or not, I give you props for finishing it all. 👏🏻 👏🏻 You done good. And yes, I thought of you when I chose the Beatles this morning, but I was in a terrible rush, and it was the first song that started to REV up in my head…I’m just glad it didn’t DRIVE you away! 😉 And thanks for the Shout Out…I feel it was no where near my best efforts, but I had to hit the ROAD, and the CLOCK WAS TICKING…But Broadway? I know there’s a show about the Temps, but who’s the second one? 🚙🙋🏻
Hi all – *Almost* gave up on this one. Got BOUNCY by putting the Y at the end. VERBAL took several jumbles, but FELINE was my hardest word. Anyone who spent time in New England knows that FILENE’S and Jordan Marsh were to Boston as Macy’s and Gimbell’s were to New York, and then I naturally thought of the band Boston’s song “More than a FEELIN”.
Figured DRIVE was probably the first answer word, but it took awhile to see MORE, and then TRAFFIC jumped out of the remaining letters.
Looks like the Chicago skyline in the distance to me, with the John Hancock Building, Sears Tower, and possibly the two Marina towers left to right (whatever they’re actually called these days). Could even be set in Naperville, although it looks closer, possibly out in western Cook County.
“Roads scholar” gave me a laugh Angela.
Have a great day everyone!
“To his DISMAY, he FORGOT the VERBAL command that would stop his BOUNCY FELINE from starting to SPRAWL on his keyboard just as he was trying to post his iasdfjqweroqi3342)(*@*&EWJVL”!
Hey Steve…Funny sentence! 👏🏻👏🏻 Great imagery. And thanks for the Shout Out. We had Filene’s here in NY too..but now they’re all gone. Out of business in 2011, if I’m not mistaken, I’m chuckling, because I had “Chicago” skyline written in twice..and took it out twice! The Hancock Building is unique in its shape, and I thought the Willis Tower was visible too, but something looked a little off, besides the Western Car Dealership was really getting in my way…And being really TIREd, plus having to HIT THE ROAD, I just didn’t have the time to throw another ball into the air..But later I did a little research, and found “Western Star Auto Sales” and Western Avenue Nissan in Chicago..😂 .so maybe it is MODELed after Chcago’s skyline…as are so many of Jeff’s cartoons. So, TANKs for the thought! 😂 Have a great day, G’ 🚙🙋🏻
PS: Just saw that Bart Starr passed away. He was really one of the good ones…RIP🙏🏻🏈
Aw, hadn’t heard about Bart Starr, thanks for the info.
And if I wasn’t already feeling old enough, I’m sure you heard that the Giants called up Carl Yazstremski’s GRANDSON last week.
(After the Giants lost 18 to 2 and the story said it wasn’t as close as the score indicated, they improved by losing the next game 10-4, and a story said that 10-4 was also appropriate for their season 😂). 🙋🏻♂️
YW. And yes, I read about Yaz’s grandson last night…🙋🏻
No major problems, with FELINE being my hardest. When I couldn’t get the answer, I asked my husband, who is getting to appreciate the Jumble more and more. He came up with traffic.
Some of us husbands are trainable. 😂
Hi Caroline. I’m still surprised that FELINE hasn’t been used as a Jumble word before. It’s seems like such a common word. And today’s answer wasn’t a dead giveaway, but TRAFFIC did TIE it UP…Hope you’re enjoying the day. Be well! 🚙🙋🏻
