PUZZLE PLAYERS!

🌐 The Web of Deception

Today’s cartoon takes us inside a home, where a man is searching the internet for something that might help with his ailment. He thinks he may have found the answer in the form of miracle supplements and a convenient link, but his daughter quickly recognizes the warning signs and urges him to seek professional help instead. With online scams dressed up to look like medical breakthroughs, the promising cure could end up causing a whole new headache. Before he trusts a doctor he’s never met, he may want to consider who’s really behind the advice.

Jumble Jeff’s Jems

➤ Keyboard Commando

Seated in a chair at a desk, the man is bald and wears square framed glasses, a short sleeve collared shirt, and pants. He types with his left hand while pointing with his right at the information he found on the computer screen.

➤ Daughter Knows Best

Standing behind him, the daughter has her hair pulled back in a ponytail and wears a short sleeve V neck shirt and pants. Her expression says it all as she urges him to stop and call his doctor instead.

➤ Doctor Dot Con

The computer screen shows a shady looking page with a doctor pictured in a lab coat and stethoscope, giving a thumbs up. He has a short buzz cut style haircut and a mustache. The screen reads DOCTOR’S ORDERS, followed by a question mark and eight lines of scribbled text.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 10-letter anagram that solved into a 3 + 7 layout. Our Hump Day puzzle was a bit trickier than what we’ve had over the past couple of days, especially when it came to the clue words. Both CHIDE and ISLAND were particularly well scrambled and made excellent choices for slowing solvers down. Looking at the cartoon and the accompanying sentence, I wasn’t sure where the answer was headed, especially with a hyphen involved. With the clue words solved, I thought the answer might have something to do with LIVES or SAVED. When neither worked because of the letter count, the double L’s clued me into ILL, with ADVISED flowing effortlessly from the remaining letters to bring this one to a close. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the daughter’s warning and the dialogue making it clear that trusting medical advice from a random website would be ILL-ADVISED.
