WELCOME BACK,

PUZZLE PLAYERS!

🌾 STABLE STAPLES

Today’s cartoon takes us to a pasture where two horses are wasting no time digging into a fresh pile of hay. As one happily declares it’s a big improvement over the previous batch, the other agrees that nothing beats a fresh meal straight from the field. With both of them eagerly chomping away, it’s obvious this new delivery is a crowd favorite.

➤ PASTURE PALS

The horse on the left appears to be a pinto, with a light coat and darker patches, plus a lighter-colored mane, while the horse on the right has a solid darker coat with a dark mane. Both are happily chewing fresh hay in a grassy pasture. A split-rail fence stretches across the hillside in the backround to complete the scene.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 11-letter anagram that solved into a “5” + 6-letter layout. Our Tuesday solve picked up right where Monday left off, with quoted wordplay taking center stage for the second day in a row. At first, the cartoon was pretty bare-bones, and I couldn’t really GIDDY good read on where it was headed. Looking at the layout, I wondered if the quoted word might be “NEIGH,” but there just weren’t many words that fit from there, so I knew the clue words would have to do the heavy lifting. Once they were solved, BETTER actually jumped out first. The double T’s, double E’s, and the B made it easy to spot, and “MUNCH” quickly revealed itself from the remaining letters to polish this one off. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our biggest nudges were the close-up view of the horses actively chewing the fresh hay, which pointed to “MUNCH,” while their dialogue about liking this batch more than the other led us to BETTER, bringing the whole phrase together.

🐴 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Equine Nutrition

➤ How much does the average horse eat each day?
A typical 1,000-pound horse should eat about 15–20 pounds of forage (hay or pasture) every day—roughly 1.5–2% of its body weight. Many horses also spend 12–18 hours a day grazing or eating.

➤ Why is hay so important to a horse?
Hay provides the fiber horses need for healthy digestion. Forage should make up most of a horse’s diet, even when grain is fed, because long-stem fiber helps keep the digestive system working properly.
SOURCE
➤ How much water does a horse drink?
Most adult horses drink about 5–10 gallons of water each day, although that amount can double during hot weather, heavy exercise, or while nursing a foal. Fresh, clean water is essential for good health.
