“GROW-CERY” STORE

PUZZLE PLAYERS!

🌽 Crop & Shop

Today’s cartoon brings us to Farmer Jack’s, where a once-simple roadside setup has sprouted into something much bigger. One worker is hauling in fresh-picked corn straight from the field while another makes his way to the door carrying an overflowing basket of produce. The new structure, modern signage, and packed displays make it obvious this little farm operation has become quite the local attraction. With this much homegrown goodness drawing people in by the dozen, business is clearly growing right alongside the crops.

➤ THE FARMERS

The farmer on the left is wearing a Farmer Jack’s mesh-style cap and a short-sleeved shirt while carrying two buckets filled with corn. The farmer on the right is dressed in overalls and a wide-brimmed hat while holding a basket of produce with leafy greens and vegetables sticking out from the top.

➤ THE FARM STORE

The building appears to be a single-level structure with a long covered front porch and a shingled roof stretching across the top. Large Farmer Jack’s lettering is displayed across the front window with a logo of Farmer Jack underneath it giving a thumbs-up sign. A cursive “Open” sign hangs on the door while another sign advertises corn for $4 a dozen. Through the front windows, rows of neatly arranged produce and a “Fresh” sign are visible inside.

➤ THE CORNFIELD

Beside the building sits a large cornfield stretching far into the distance behind the store. Tall stalks line the rows with visible ears of corn growing from the sides of some of them.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 13-letter anagram that solved into a “4 + 4” + 5 layout. Our end-of-the-workweek challenge looked intimidating at first glance, but it was anything but. A quick read of the cartoon sentence had me figuring either STAND or STORE would land somewhere in the solution, and once STORE became visible in the layout, the rest began falling into place quickly. GROW popped out with ease, leaving -CERY to finish off the wordplay. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, the overflowing baskets of produce, the rows of fresh vegetables, and the farm setting itself all pointed us toward a store built around selling homegrown goods.
