🔪 SHARP TALK

Today’s cartoon brings us into a kitchen where two cooks are making small talk while they prep. One asks how dangerous his previous job was flying helicopters, and the guy on the right looks up and gives him a comparison that it was pretty much the same. Different setting, same kind of focus, because one wrong move in either place and things can go south real quick.

➤ SOUS SETUP

The cook on the left has a goatee around the mouth and chin and wears a buttoned chef’s jacket. He holds a mixing bowl in his left hand while whisking in a clockwise motion with a wire whisk in his right. Behind him is a stove with a pot on an active burner, with visible steam rising and a hood above it.

➤ HEAD CHEF

The chef on the right wears a pleated hat with a chef’s jacket. He has longer sideburns and a thick mustache. He is chopping on a cutting board using both hands while looking toward the other cook, maintaining eye contact during the motion.

➤ PREP ZONE

On the work surface sits a bowl filled with previously chopped ingredients near the cutting board, which holds a pile of food being actively chopped into smaller pieces.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 7-letter anagram that would solve into a 7-letter layout. Our first puzzle of the week was a breeze. It wasn’t a blind solve, but it was pretty close. My biggest clue was helicopter pilot, which initially had me latch onto BLADE, but I couldn’t quite land it. Solving the clue words made it apparent that once I locked in the first P, it was instant that the answer was going to be CHOPPER or CHOPPED. From there, it was easy to stick a knife in this one. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the talk about helicopters giving us CHOPPER, along with the visual of him chopping with two blades on the cutting board.

🪓 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Knives

➤ Why do chefs prefer sharp knives?
Sharp knives are actually safer because they require less force to cut, which reduces the chance of slipping during use. A dull blade is more likely to slide off food and cause injury, while a sharp edge gives better control with each cut.
SOURCE
➤ Why shouldn’t you put knives in the dishwasher?
Dishwashers can dull the blade and damage the handle because of high heat, harsh detergents, and movement during the wash cycle. Hand washing and drying right away helps preserve the knife’s edge and overall lifespan.
SOURCE
➤ How often should a knife be sharpened?
Most kitchen knives should be sharpened every few months depending on use, while regular honing helps maintain the edge between sharpenings. Keeping a consistent edge improves both performance and safety during food prep.
