CARTOON ANSWER:

SEAT OF POWER
HAPPY FRIDAY
PUZZLE PLAYERS!
👑 Lap of Luxury
Today’s cartoon brings us into a throne room where we see a king checking out his new perch. The thing is loaded, and it looks more like a command center than a comfy chair. He’s got a screen mounted next to him, USB ports built into the front, and even a pillow under his feet to boost it way beyond bespoke. He’s staring down at his device, already annoyed, demanding to know why it’s not working, while his servant is off to the side holding the plug that never made it into the wall. For something built to run everything from one spot, the issue ended up being a little closer than he realized.

➤ THE KING

The king is seated in the throne with a thin, pencil thin mustache, wearing a decorated uniform jacket with shoulder epaulets and tassels, along with several medals pinned to his left chest. He holds a device in his right hand, with a visible cable running from the phone into a USB port on the front of the chair. The back of the device shows multiple circular lenses.

➤ THE THRONE SETUP

The throne has a high back and sits on a raised platform, resembling a dais. The base of the chair features curved, sleigh style supports, and a small foot pillow rests beneath the king’s feet. A screen is mounted to the right side of the chair, positioned within arm’s reach. A power outlet is built into the front of the throne, matching the wall outlets nearby.

➤ THE SERVANT AND DETAILS

The servant stands to the side with neatly parted hair, holding the unplugged cord in his right hand. The wall outlets have a rounded shape that resembles simple faces. Above the throne, a stylized eagle is mounted with its beak pointed to the right.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was an 11-letter anagram that solved into a 4 + 2 + 5 layout. Much to my surprise, what I consider the most difficult puzzle of the week ended up being an instant solve. It took a minute of thinking about it, but it eventually came. The throne gave me SEAT, the plug showed me POWER, making SEAT OF POWER no trouble at all once everything lined up. If this one slowed you down, those same visual clues were, in my opinion, easy to spot today.

👑 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Thrones

➤ How often did kings actually sit on their thrones?
Thrones were rarely used for daily activity. Most monarchs only sat on them during formal ceremonies like coronations or official audiences, meaning the throne itself was used only a small portion of the time compared to other seating or workspaces.
SOURCE
➤ What made a throne more than just a chair?
Thrones symbolized authority and were often elevated on a dais to make the ruler physically higher than everyone else in the room. Their placement and design reinforced power, status, and control in a way that ordinary furniture never did.
SOURCE
➤ Did thrones stay central as power evolved?
Over time, thrones became more symbolic than functional. In many governments, desks and administrative spaces replaced them as the true centers of decision making, shifting authority away from display and toward practical governance.

Strawberry Upside Down Cake

This one works because it flips the whole idea of a fruit cake on its head. The strawberries bake down into a soft, jam-like layer while the cake stays light and holds together clean when turned out.
