AFTER SPENDING YEARS AS A COFFEE SHOP BARISTA, SHE’D – – –
HH AOE NNE EET TDT BRA =
Today’s cartoon drops us at a coffee shop where the order being placed sounds more like a secret password than a beverage. One barista is completely lost trying to decode the request, while the veteran behind the espresso machine doesn’t even blink. When you’ve spent enough years pulling shots, steaming milk, and translating caffeine dreams into cups, there’s not much left that can surprise you.

➤ TIMELY POUR
Today’s cartoon lands on National Barista Day!
➤ AT THE COUNTER
The customer placing the order looks ready for work, with short hair cut to the neck, a collared top, and pants.
➤ TROUBLE BREWING
At the register, one barista wears a bandana, a couple of earrings, and a confused expression. Beside her, the more experienced barista already has a cup in hand. Her hair is pulled back, and she’s wearing an apron and a smartwatch.
➤ THE DETAILS
The Jumblespresso machine sits front and center, complete with gauges and buttons and three coffee cups warming on top. To the left of the machine are a drink topper and a shaker.
The final answer was an anagram consisting of 17-letters that would solve into a “4” + 5 + 4 + 4 layout. At first glance, the length felt intimidating, especially without any obvious coffee-related words jumping out. What finally got things percolating was noticing that the B felt like the odd bean out, and all the E’s and N’s kept nudging me toward BEAN. The remaining letters brought THERE into view, and the rest of the phrase flowed naturally. If this one gave you trouble too, our nudges were the veteran barista’s comment that she’d made a few of these before, along with how easily she jumped right into making the order.
