Count Us In

Today’s cartoon drops us into a Zero Family Reunion, complete with a banner strung between branches and a backyard cookout that’s heating up. At the grill, one zero flips burgers and sighs that it feels like they never count, while the others grumble about how counting always seems to skip over them. In the background, the questions keep going at the picnic table, where a similar conversation is being had between a couple of zeros over burgers and buns. Between the chatter, and the complaints, the message adds up. Being overlooked doesn’t mean being incomplete. Sometimes the total is already exactly right.

➤ ROUND AND ROUND

Just about everything in the scene shares the same round shape, from the half-circle drum grill to the burgers and buns, the circular spatula head, the tire swing hanging from the branch, and even the hat on the zero at the grill. My favorite detail is the zero at the picnic table with its back to us, casually scrolling on a phone.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 14-letter anagram that solved into a 3 + 7 + 4 layout. Nothing jumped out in the layout right away, but I knew we’d be hunting for number-related words, especially zeros. It didn’t take long to latch on to NOTHING, with AND and MORE falling neatly into place from the remaining letters. If this one slowed you down, the hints were subtle, tucked into the overlapping conversations about being skipped over.

Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Zero

➤ Zero as a Number
Zero stands apart from every other number. It is neither positive nor negative, acting as the neutral dividing line that separates the two sides of the number line and anchors how we measure value in math.
SOURCE
➤ Zero in Roman Numerals
The Roman numeral system never developed a symbol for zero. Without it, their number system struggled with place value and made complex calculations far more cumbersome than modern math allows.
SOURCE
➤ Zero and the Calendar
There is no year zero in the Gregorian calendar. Time jumps directly from 1 BCE to 1 CE, a quirk that still complicates historical timelines and date calculations spanning that divide.
SOURCE
➤ Zero in Language
The word “zero” traces back to the Arabic term sifr, meaning empty. That same root later evolved into the word “cipher,” linking zero directly to ideas of codes, secrecy, and encryption.
SOURCE
➤ Zero in Sports
In tennis, zero is famously called “love,” possibly inspired by the French word for egg due to its shape. In many other sports, zero marks dominance, as in a shutout where the opponent scores nothing at all.

These cookies stay in heavy rotation for a reason. They bake up soft in the center with just enough chew, packed with oats and raisins that actually show up in every bite. They hold their shape, don’t dry out, and somehow manage to feel classic and bakery-worthy at the same time.
