GROUND RULES

Today’s cartoon drops us into a fenced in backyard that has clearly seen better days. A man stands frozen on his patio with the door cracked open, his face stuck between shock and disbelief. The yard is riddled with holes, scattered everywhere like a treasure hunt gone wrong. Nearby, two dogs pause from their digging to pop up for a quick chat. Their exchange suggests they are having the time of their lives and are already thinking about where to take the adventure next.

➤ BACKYARD BLUES

We see a backyard with a vinyl style fence and a wide gate that resembles a carriage style door. The house appears to be a ranch style home with a sliding glass door that opens onto a simple patio. Just outside the fence, a single tree stands in the background.

➤ CAN YOU DIG IT?

The dogs have been busy. Eight holes are scattered across the yard, with two more currently in progress. One of the holes sits right up against the fence.

🧩 Final Solve 🧩

The final answer was a twelve-letter anagram that solved into a layout of 4 + 3 + 2 + 3 layout. This one didn’t slow me down at all. The wordplay practically dug itself out once the visuals came together. The scattered holes across the lawn and the dogs’ dialogue about moving on to the next yard were our biggest clues.

Click-to-Reveal Facts*: Dog Digging Behavior

➤ Why do dogs dig holes?
Digging is driven by instinct, curiosity, and excess energy. Dogs may dig to cool off, follow underground scents, hide toys, or entertain themselves. Certain breeds are more inclined to dig, while others do it when they are bored or anxious.
SOURCE
➤ How can you stop dogs from digging holes?
Digging usually improves when dogs get more exercise and mental stimulation. Redirecting them to a designated digging area, supervising yard time, and blocking fence lines can also help. Addressing boredom or anxiety is what leads to lasting change.
