WELCOME BACK,
PUZZLE PLAYERS!
DO-NOT-DISTURBANCE
In today’s cartoon, we drop in on a couple who are jolted awake by a telephone call delivering a sales pitch that nobody would want at that time of night. She is annoyed at the disturbance coming in at such an ungodly hour, while he wants her to hang up before it goes any further. Their reactions make it clear that the interruption was more than a little out of line.

Jumble Jeff’s Jems

CELL SERVICE — She’s taking the call on a cell phone rather than a land line. The phone has a charging port on the bottom.

Final Solve

The final answer was an eleven-letter anagram that solved into an 8 + 3 layout. Finding a starting point was difficult, and the hyphen had me thinking the solution might be a pun, but with no quotation marks, I figured the hyphen would be part of the solve rather than a wordplay clue. My first instinct was to see if something ending in -FUL would work, but that approach went nowhere. It finally clicked when I noticed CALL tucked into the layout, and the rest of the answer came through loud and clear.

🥄 Viral Recipe

Emergency Chocolate Dessert

This one is basically a chocolate lava cake’s faster, moodier cousin. You melt dark chocolate and butter, whisk it into eggs and brown sugar, fold in a touch of flour, and bake it just long enough for the tops to crack while the centers stay warm and soft. The whole thing comes together in minutes and feels like a dessert you should not be able to make this quickly. Serve it straight from the ramekin or turn it out onto a plate if you want a little extra flair — either way it delivers deep, rich chocolate comfort immediately.

Shake Shack Free Fries for a Year — Shake Shack kicked off a festive promo where you can score free fries for a full year.
