  1. Good Morning, Everyone. 🄊 HERE A BOUT…THERE A BOUT 🄊

šŸŽ¶ Where the NEW YORK CITY winters aren’t bleeding me…Leading me…Going home…In the clearing stands a BOXER…And a fighter by his trade… And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down…But the FIGHTER still remainsā€¦šŸŽ¶ ā€œThe Boxerā€ – Simon & Garfunkel. 1965 https://tinyurl.com/hrr24w

🄊 If it’s def in New York City, the Garden’s the milieu,
It’s where the major fights are fought…on 7th AVENUE
There’s no need for a JETTY, nor a BRONCO to avail,
The hardest part to get there? A cab you try to hail
A boxing match our theme today…it’s OOMPH one doesn’t flout…
    But if we’re not NYC bound…we’re close…we’re THEREABOUT! 🄊

While we’ve had a good number of Boxing puzzles in the past, I do think a puzzle with a specific mention of NYC is a first. And as long as one is familiar with the word BOUT, (an athletic match), as it relates to Boxing, today’s solve is as well PLACEd as a ONE-TWO PUNCH!

So…When I was PUNCHING in our words this morning, I came aCROSS two anagrams that have appeared as is in the past…POMHO on 02/14/19, https://tinyurl.com/2ppxumpv and NEUVEA, on 04/11/13, and again on 08/30/20. https://tinyurl.com/342nfv5c But oddly, I couldn’t come up with the word JETTY. I only went back 10 years though, so it may still be FLOATing out there LIKE A BUTTERFLY…but as of now, nada. And it was just AVENUE that proved to be a dead-end street for one of the Early Birds…Besides that…it was an easy WIN all aROUND. Ok…It’s aBOUT time we get to the MAIN EVENT…

Finding ourselves at a pre-fight news conference, we see two boxers, doing the traditional staredown. But what makes this meet a little different, is that while they’re indulging in the ritualistic intimidation tactic, their promoters aren’t just talking the usual smack…they’re SPARRING aBOUT where the upcoming BOUT will be held, which is obviously still up in the air. And while our question is telling us NYC (Manhattan) may now be off the table, we hear one promoter mentioning the other boroughs, or even New Jersey. All nearby locations. So in answer to our question? Here, there…where? The BOUT will be held in NYC or…THEREABOUT! … https://tinyurl.com/3w8cp96n Another Jumble KNOCKOUT!

As for today’s characters? I’m just going to roll with the PUNCHES here. Are they actual boxers and promoters? Dead-RINGers for men in boxing news today? Or just Jeff taking a JAB at a graphic PUNCHline? I’m on the ROPES…and my GLOVES are off with this one, so I’m just going to THROW IN THE TOWEL… But if anyone out there recognizes them? Feel free to HOOK me up…

So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a good one…Be well, stay safe…and here’s hoping we can all keep our wits aBOUT us with this heat waveā€¦šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  2. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø Lacking the OOMPH to make the trip up to the AVENUE, he sat lazily at the edge of the JETTY, leafing through the BRONCO magazine, and deciding he’d go later…2’ish…or THEREABOUTā€¦šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

šŸŽ For some reason the BRONCO lacked the OOMPH he usually had,
As the trainer passed the JETTY, on the ground he noticed brads…
Dismounting then he saw it, a nail deep within a heel,
And realized that it caused the horse to be off even keel…
The closest Vet now located on Hampton AVENUE,
He offered to come out, but he had work first to get through
So to the worried trainer he saidā€¦ā€Clean off any grout…
And I’ll be there this afternoon say three or THEREABOUTā€ā€¦šŸŽ

  3. Puzzle stumped me for a blind solve. I tackled the words and they came easily, but solving puzzle took some time. Don’t quite know how it was finally solved, but I guess I saw the ABOUT and went from there. Quite lucky, I think, as it was very cryptic. The little Mini-Crossword in the NY Times news feed used ONE-TWO punch today. Now how ABOUT that !!

    • Hi Terry. I really thought that the mention of FIGHT and BOXING MATCH would easily give up BOUT…but I guess not. The ONE-TWO punch? It’s contagious! šŸ˜‰ Have a good one, Terry. Enjoy! šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  4. Good morning. I certainly didn’t have any oomph today. I’ll blame it on the heat. That and of all things Avenue stumped me. Then I just gave up on the cartoon answer. A total wash out. Let’s hope tomorrow brings better results. Enjoyed your song choice Angela. Another first time hearing it. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Hi Paul. Good Morning. The heat’s getting to all of us…so I hear ya. And you made me laugh with Avenue. A Brooklyn boy? šŸ˜‚ Glad you enjoyed the music. It’s a great song. Here’s to you staying well and safe too, Paul. Stay out of the heat, and enjoy your day. šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

      • OverHERE, overTHERE, I was everywhere and anywhere but never THEREabout!
The jumbles were very easy to guess but I failed to get there!
I’m lucky to live in Ottawa, Ontario as I look everywhere else there’s disasters. I am starting to believe that our Earth is once again up in arms!
We must culture humility, forgiveness, kindness togetherness and love if we want to come out of this mess!

        • Your lips to God’s ears, Christian. I worry a lot. I worry about the Little Ones. I worry what stage we’re setting for them…what future they’ll have if this insanity keeps up. Hence, the prayers…hence the insomnia…Enjoy your day… and your beautiful country, Christian…you are luckyā€¦šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  5. Anagrams went quickly, but my mind was as foggy as the weather regarding the cartoon solution.I couldn’t get borough out of my mind, and failed to make the connection to a boxing bout,so was stumped!

    • Good point with the boroughs, Professor. It was probably put in there to stress the close proximity, but I can see where it could throw people off. I guess living here, I didn’t think to give it a second thought. Enjoy your day, Prof. Stay cool. šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  6. Not quite a perfect rhyme today I’m afraid so this limerick lacks a knock-out punch. I focused on actual names of places in the NY area – with the exception of the ring around Flushing Meadow where I’ve watched the US Open tennis a few times, I’m not familiar with NYC – and so I strayed for a while.

    With locations all thoroughly scoped
And they’d threshed out the usual tropes
    With the venue wide open
    The backers were hopin’
Their boxer would stay off the ropes!

    • Hi Helen. It’s a wonderful limerick. But I wasn’t sure what direction šŸ˜‰you’d take, so I wrote up a few of them. And I’ll go with the one I think follows yours’ the closest…Wishing you a great day, Helen. Enjoy! šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

🄊 The venue, it’s still up in the air,
But the boxers, they don’t even care…
      Wherever they meet
      Bottom line is defeat…
Not the who, or the what, or the whereā€¦šŸ„Š

      • Very well crafted Angela! Enjoy your day too although it appears you are up very early every day, so possibly it’s close to bedtime for you.

        • Thank you, Helen. Unfortunately, I’m not a very good sleeper. Combine that with being a worrier, and the state of affairs of the nation and the world in general these days…I find myself awake a lot more than I care to be. And praying a lot more than I ever did. C’est la vieā€¦šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  7. Everything went well on this rainy day in PA! Even when I mistakenly wrote down the letter V instead of E from Avenue, still solved the puzzle ok. The ā€œLimerick Twinsā€ are at it again! Good job girls! Happy weekend, All!

    • LOL! Kimberly… God knows, I answer to a lot of names, but that’s a first! šŸ˜‚ And this rain…how sad that we can’t share some of it with those on the West Coast. Feast or famine…Have a good one, Kim. And stay safe out thereā€¦šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

      • LOL! Thanks Angela! And this is just me, but to help me calm down and get some rest, I actually had to limit my time watching the news! It started to weigh heavy on my psyche, with discussions with friends and such. Finally, I got to the point where I said ā€œYou know what? Unless there is an Asteroid ā˜„ļø headed our way, or the Aliens šŸ‘½ have landed! …..I don’t want to hear about it! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Just a little trick that helped me out! But it worked! 🤣 Take care and don’t despair! Things will get better!

        • I think the Aliens have seen the writing on the wall, Kimberly..and decided it’s not worth the trip! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ And I do try to limit the time I spend watching the news lately. (Plus I’ve started following the world clocks…you know…to make sure I don’t miss when it’s 5 o’clock somewhere)! šŸ˜‰ šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

            • šŸ·šŸ„ƒ! I’m checking…I think it’s aBOUT time now! šŸ˜‰šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

              • Hahaha! Go for it! If 12:00 noon is the rule of thumb, I’ve got just shy of a 1/2 hr! šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

              • It’s 5:39 in Naples, Italy…Here’s to my heritage! šŸ·šŸ˜‚šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  8. Oh my goodness that’s right! (5 o’clock somewhere!) I think my family and cohorts try to restrain until High Noon! 🤣🤣🤣 Here’s to beautiful Italy! I hope I get to go someday!

  9. Good one this morning. Anagrams were solved easily but had to get out my pencil to figure out the cartoon answer. Once I saw bout it was a knockout. Angela & Kimberley, I’m with you when it comes to watching the news. When things get really bad, I switch to the Hallmark Channel , mindless movies but everyone ends up happy. 😊 Have a Good Friday all.

    • Definitely a good one, Betty. And you’re 100% right…BOUT was the Knockout! šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ» Hallmark movies, right? It’s been the same script for the last umpteen years! šŸ˜‚ Just the characters change..to protect the innocent!…And that’s not always the case either! šŸ˜‚ But they are feel good movies. (Although they can tend to make you cry)…Wishing you a Good Friday too, Betty…Enjoy! šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  10. For the last 2 hours, I can’t get the song ā€œAlfieā€ out of my head,,,šŸŽ¶šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

    • You meanā€¦ā€What’s it all aBOUT, Alfieā€? What’s that all about! Angie? 😁

      • It’s still ā€œplayingā€ā€¦It might be with me all day! šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  11. Hi all – I would have questioned OOMPH if I hadn’t seen it here before. Likewise, BRONCO would have taken more than one Jumble. The U and V showed AVENUE. The answer was quick, although I’ve always heard it as plural – THEREABOUTS.

    Good wishes to everyone.

Great song of course Angela, and the first thing I thought of when I saw what it was, was that ā€œ7th AVENUEā€ was in the lyrics and the Jumble.

ā€œHe got more than he bargained for when he spurred his BRONCO with too much OOMPH, causing it to gallop down the dead-end AVENUE and leap off the JETTY.ā€

    • ā€œ7th Avenueā€, yes…but I didn’t quote that line…after all, this is a family blog! šŸ˜‚ And yes, it is a great song. Even nicer to see Simon & Garfunkel together though, right? …Have a good one, Steve. Enjoy! šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  12. Speaking of Italy, our 18 year old grandson is in Milan for 5 weeks. He says it’s beautiful!!
    Liz B.

    • That’s great, Liz. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of beautiful pictures to go through! Have a good one, Liz! šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  13. My problems started before I saw today’s puzzle. I usually do it on a online site the evening before but the Jumble for today wasn’t posted there. It finally showed up this morning…
In working it I too found the anagrams rather easy except for OOMPH which I was questioning if it was a legit word, I guess it is!
No chance with the puzzle solution. I went down a burrow with burrough and never came back. Hopefully tomorrow will be less problematic for me!

    • Hey Mig…As I told the Professor earlier, I didn’t pay any mind to borough as far as the solve went, because I had already solved the puzzle from the question. But maybe it’s also because living here, in one of the boros, (that’s how we spell it here) I realized that it was a reference to the close proximity to NYC, Manhattan. Does that make sense? I hope so. Anyway, as for tomorrow? I think you’ll definitely find it an easy one. Enjoy your night, Mig. Take care. šŸ„ŠšŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
