    🏈 The man was quite the Passer…Joe was always smooth as SUEDE,
    He had the spice of SALSA though…he truly had it made…
    He’d get out on the field and people cheered the SNAZZY dude,
    It was quite rare for you to hear Montana getting booed…
    “The Catch” that you see mentioned here, ‘tween Joe and his guy Clark,
    Was a great play in Football…made within Candlestick Park…
    Montana is a legend amongst Football’s great offense…
    And today we DEPICT 81’s great story of “PASSED”-TENSE! 🏈

    Joe Montana. IMO…The original Joe Cool…the #1 clutch Quarterback, hands down…(no pun intended)…And if I’m not mistaken, his presence hasn’t graced the Jumble since way back in 2012, where he was featured in a puzzle with another great Quarterback, Joe Namath. That day, February 5th, Super Bowl Sunday, the question posed was…”The conversation about their careers showed that Montana and Namath were not”….And the brilliant solve? AVERAGE JOES. No, no average Joe here…Montana was definitely a California Dreamers delight…

    So…We’re kicking off our weekend with all four of our words having been seen pretty recently: 2019 and 2020 entries. And with a solitary repeat anagram, SSLAA, today’s puzzle was an easy test to pass. We definitely caught a break…And with no time outs, the Early Birds, as a team, were easily in the End Zone this morning. So let’s just pass over to our cartoon…

    Finding ourselves in a radio studio, today we see Joe Montana, https://tinyurl.com/j3xgrwa, being interviewed by a a sports announcer about his illustrious career as a Quarterback. And by the distinctive look of him, I probably should know who he is…But in all honesty? I’m taking a pass. You know how I hate making any snap decisions…so if anyone out there recognizes him? Feel free to take the ball and run with it…and write in to let us know. But as far as our solve goes? With the radio personality mentioning “The Catch”, https://tinyurl.com/y9hds6fj, and our question mentioning the staggering 273 Touchdown Passes Joe threw? The highlights of Joe’s career are definitely passing before our eyes…”PASSED”-TENSE https://tinyurl.com/yy4fg5on indeed! Good play on words, David…good play!

    Eye candy? We can see the smiling sound tech in the booth at back, enjoying the interview…and I like the way the announcer, who’s blue polo bears the Jumble “J” logo, is referring to his notes as he speaks…And the microphones are different…But the Touchdown has to go to Joe’s choice of coffee mug. It’s an “I ❤️Jumble” one…only the heart’s not enclosed in the circle in the square. Hmm. Incompletion? Out of bounds? Or just another whimsical winning play for Jeff? It’s up in the air, Folks!

  2. 👢Pulling on her SALSA-colored SNAZZY new SUEDE boots, she hoped to DEPICT a retro look…she liked PAST TENSE when it came to fashion…👢

    👞 He never did like SALSA, especially since that day,
    Someone had dropped a bowl of it on his SUEDE shoes…Oy vey!
    The SNAZZY looking footwear, was now soaked all way through,
    They seemed to DEPICT darkened boats upon a sea of blue…
    He rushed them to the cleaners, and waited in suspense…
    But nothing could be done for them…His suede shoes? Now PAST TENSE 👞

  4. Good morning. Since guest week it was tough going until this week. Another easy one today. The words were simple and looking at the letters for the cartoon it was pretty obvious. Even for a guy that doesn’t watch much football. Enjoyed your posts Angela. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    This one wasn’t easy for me. I thought of Passed but it took me quite a while to unscramble Tense. Not sure how the hyphen fits in. Your clever boot sentence, Angela, and Laterally in the voting box made me smile.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. I have to agree with you there…I don’t think the hyphen is necessarily needed either…The play on words is using PASSED instead of PAST, but past tense wouldn’t call for a hyphen…It crossed my mind, and I should have made mention of it…But I tip my cap to you…because you never fail to come up with a cerebral look at these puzzles. 👏🏻👏🏻Kudos! And thanks re: the boots. Sometimes it’s tough getting a take on David’s words…and I know I push the envelope! 😉 Wishing you a great day…Be well, stay safe…and I hope you’re spared the snow! 🏈🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Passed came to me quickly, but not tense.Salsa looked like alas w/an extra s to me at first.Joe Montana was indeed one of the best!

  7. Hi all – No problems with the words today, but it seems like a long time since I’ve heard anyone say SNAZZY.

    Wow, nice Vince Guaraldi reference Angela, especially appropriate to the season given all his work on the Charlie Brown specials.

    Two things about “The Catch” game: I still have my VHS copy of that game that I taped off the air, with the play-by-play announcer being none other than Vin Scully. And the favorite recollection I’ve heard was Joe Montana saying that whenever he tried to claim credit for it, his dear friend Dwight Clark would always remind him that “nobody ever calls it ‘The Throw’.” 😂

  9. Angela, Since the Microphones have wires attached to them, it is probably a few years ago and could be a younger Mike Tirico. Let us know if you find out. Ann

    • Hi Ann. I’m not sure about the wiring at all, but as far as Tirico goes, I can’t find any image of him with the distinctive facial hair that the character in the cartoon sports…(Plus I think Mike’s a much better looking man)! 😉So I’m still out in left field…(mixing my sports up here)! Could be he’s not patterned after anyone specifically, just a random drawing of Jeff’s. 🤷🏻‍♀️ IDK…Thanks for your reply though…I really appreciate it…but it looks like this ball is still up in the air!
