  1. Good Morning, Everyone… 🏖 I hope this finds you well…🏖

🏖 While young teen boys are CAGEY, thinking they might know it all,
They’re really pretty transparent, and Moms can make the call
The Wilson Brothers have their days when they’ll pick on each other,
They’ll UNCORK all their energy…a handful for their Mother
They’re agile and they wrestle well, these boys are not OBESE,
They all too often get in fights…with them there’s hardly peace…
Three brothers never STODGY, but it might get dangerous…
If they get too far out of hand …get way too “BOYS-TEROUS”! 🏖

This cartoon today is definitely a RECORD breaker, and SHOREly to become a TOP TEN favorite with many readers, including myself. Even if you didn’t automatically recognize the names, a simple Google search will give you the incomparable BEACH BOYS, https://tinyurl.com/lqy3r37, and the three Wilson Brothers. But it’s the dialogue that’s a virtual Playbook! I came up with six of their greatest hits, but there might be seven. The line “If you all got along”? It’s gnawing at me, but for some reason I can’t make the connection…except for the fact that in later years The Beach Boys had their differences.. https://tinyurl.com/y3p8yf4o. But if anyone out there can TRACK it down as lyrics or a song title, please write in and let me know…And if it is, guaranteed it’s gonna be a V-8 moment for me…I hope I won’t have to hand in my card…

But for now, let’s PLAY with what we have…
From left to right…Brian: “Fun, Fun, Fun”, https://tinyurl.com/bwa57mo , Dennis: “I Get Around” https://tinyurl.com/l9pmkg9 and “Getcha Back”, https://tinyurl.com/y62jfrml, their Mom, “Wouldn’t it be Nice” https://tinyurl.com/kx98mya, and “When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)”, https://tinyurl.com/y6f5z5he, and Carl, “Do it Again” https://tinyurl.com/yyyffbar. Amazing! Jeff’s outdone himself with this one…SURFfice to say it’s SOLID GOLD!

The eye candy…A seagull on the sand, and two flying overhead. Some people walking on the pier, a lone surfer, a woman sunbathing under an umbrella, and of course what water scene would be complete without Jeff’s 3-S…the signature sinking sailboat out on the ocean…Definitely a masterpiece…

Oh…the solve? The three Wilson Brothers roughhousing? They’re being “BOYS-TEROUS”! Another HIT!

So, that’s a wrap…Be well, stay safe, and special thoughts and prayers to our readers in California and those within the path of Hurricane Laura. God speed…🏖🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. ⚾️ Tired of being considered STODGY old guys, the CAGEY group of sexagenarians planned to prove that since they’d all kept from getting OBESE, there was no reason they still couldn’t get BOYS-TEROUS and play softball…and decided to UNCORK a bottle of apple cider to seal the deal….⚾️

🕺🏻 No longer being OBESE, he found new energy
The STODGY guy he was before…no longer would they see
He planned to UNCORK all the things he kept CAGEY before,
    He’d be a brand new man now…no longer thought a bore…
He’d get out there projecting now an attitude infectious…
Becoming quite the party guy…a man just purely “BOYS-TEROUS” 🕺🏻

  3. Good morning. Had a complete failure. Had to look up Stodgy and finally had to look up the cartoon answer. The upside to this is that there is always tomorrow to succeed. With that in mind I wish you all good health and stay safe out there.

  4. Hi Everyone –
I totally missed the references to the Beach Boys’ names and their songs, though I did manage to get the answer anyway. Thanks, Angela. I thought the first word might be Bros because of the three brothers but that didn’t work out. Finding Boys and then the OUS ending gave me the answer.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. You’re very welcome. Hope all is well…and you’re staying safe…🏖🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Angela. All I can think of is a change in lyrics. For instance, the original lyrics for “Get around” was we always take my car even though it’s a heap., was changed to cause it’s never been beat. So, maybe it’s possible the original lyrics were we always get along with the girls that we meet, changed to we never miss yet with the girls we meet. Possible ? Stephen

  5. Angela. You may be thinking of the song by Jacob Whitesides. “Why can’t we all just get along”.

    • Hi Stephen…Thank you, but that’s not it, although I love the song…and it so fits with the climate of our country today. I thought of Rodney King also…I just was trying to shake loose a connection to The Beach Boys…like the rest of the dialogue was…But again, Tks. Be well and stay safe out there…🏖🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Wouldn’t it be nice if we were older and everyone just got along? Beach Boys theme was fun and I grew up with them. I have always had an obesity challenge and OBESE was the hard word for me today. Solution came easy….

  7. Beach Boys were a fun group,so I thought beach would be in the answer, but w boys as the first word, there went the “B”, for that solution.

  8. Hi all – Even with the usual UN trick, I didn’t see UNCORK at first. Then, since “beach” was in the dialog it seemed “boys” would be in the answer, and the quotation marks gave it away.

    Good wishes to everyone.

Ah, Angela, I was reading so fast I missed the song titles until you mentioned them, thanks! (duh. “Fun, fun, fun” should have at least grabbed me).
Thanks for all the excellent links. “When I Grow Up” has always been one of my more obscure favorites – great lyrics and the added little touch of them singing ascending age numbers in the background as the song chugs along.
One more possible song ref – “on the beach” bringing to mind “The Girls on the Beach” (typically beautiful unexpected chord changes throughout this one):

    • Missed the song titles! 🤷🏻‍♀️The cartoon was filthy with them! You might just have to turn in your card! 😂 And I agree, “WIGU” is a favorite of mine too…But “on the beach”? IDK. That’s David speaking, and I don’t think he’s half into music the way Jeff is, so I can’t see him making a reference…You know David…to him it’s “just WORDS”…catch my DRIFT? 😉 But, speaking of… have you ever noticed how “Girls on the Beach” sounds so much like “Surfer Girl”? It came out the year after, 1964. I always felt as if they stole their own thunder with that song. It’s a pretty tune, don’t get me wrong, but it just seems like the “needle got stuck” 😉 on that one. Anyway, I was trying to look through my files to find the last time we had The Beach Boys in a puzzle…And all I seem to be coming up with is this… https://tinyurl.com/y5wbwkyb. 2017? Almost 3 years to the date? I thought for sure we’d seen them since then…but 🤷🏻‍♀️“God Only Knows”…I’m coming up short…Have a good one, Steve…Be well and stay safe out there…🏖🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Uncork took me the longest to solve, thought is was jumbled beautifully. Got the cartoon answer right away. Loved the Beach Boys. Hope it’s all beach weather where you live. Cool here today but that’s good because the air is cleaner and they’re able to get a better handle on the fires, thank goodness.

    • Hey Betty…Yes it was…And we haven’t seen it used in a puzzle since way back in 2014! I’ve been searching for it all morning, because it was a puzzle about Sinatra…but I’m not having the best luck today looking for these Golden Oldies…😉 I’m glad the weather improved there, you guys are going through so much. It’s very hot here but windy. Supposedly we’re going to get hit with a storm. And Upstate has a tornado warning…Mother Nature’s working overtime…🤦🏻‍♀️. Be well Betty…and keep safe…🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Not quite beach weather here, Betty. It was ~90 on Monday but the temperature has been steadily dropping and it’s in the low 60’s now.

Craziest of all, I was outside very early this morning and we actually had snowflakes fall. I thought I was seeing things, but I called my M&D around 10am and they saw them too. Fall is quietly making herself known! 🙂

  10. Hi! I found this puzzle extremely challenging. I got Cagey and Stody right away and then Obese. I couldn’t figure out Uncork for the life of me.

I missed today’s (Aug 29) puzzle. Where can I find it online? I don’t want the answers.
