Happy Wednesday, Jumble friends! CICADA sure had people swarming for help yesterday, but there weren’t any words in today’s puzzle to cause another infestation. David, as promised, has been adding new clue words to his puzzles and we were greeted with two more this morning. BEAVER and FLATLY can now be crossed off the list of remaining 6-letter words. The -LY trick worked like a charm on FLATLY, but BEAVER took a little bit longer to come into view. My go-to solving technique of coupling duplicate letters was a bust so I had to employ some mental gymnastics to grind it out. EMCEE has been used quite frequently in the past so the triple E’s are no longer a challenge. It was also our oldest clue word leaving PERCH as the most recent.
Quite an interesting cartoon this morning. One thing that’s for sure is that these three masked superheroes won’t be appearing in a comic book movie anytime soon. They just have that B-list look! The main action in the panel is occurring on the left hand side, and we see a young woman making some final adjustments to Owlman’s new cape. Jeff did an excellent job of having the fabric gather in the middle to give it the appearance of wings instead of the traditional style we see draped over the pole. The other two characters can be seen admiring their new duds and there’s no doubt that the superhero community thanks this young woman for adding some pizzazz to their outdated crime-fighting costumes.
The masks of the caped crusaders keep their identities a secret, but the young woman performing the work is on full display for the world to see. When Jeff draws someone doing anything fashion related, he usually uses resorts to the top designer in the business — his daughter, Sydney! We’ve seen her a few times in the past, and unless she’s completely changed her appearance, this isn’t her. Is it perhaps one of her friends? The HB on the cape also had me perplexed and I initially thought that it might be a veiled Happy Birthday message. It could also stand for Hanna-Barbera which is associated with DC comics and is the home of Owlman. If you have a thought on what it all means, be sure to let us know in the comments!
The final solve was an anagram consisting of 12-letters. The V and Y brought VERY to mind leaving CAPE-ABLE to be easily sorted out from the remaining letters. The solution didn’t take any superhuman powers to complete, but the result sure was a hoot! Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!
Good morning. Guess what day it is today? Noooo, it’s not Monday, but for all we know it looked like it after seeing today’s jumble. The entire puzzle was handed to us, not on a silver platter but a platinum platter. I went straight down the line with the words and when it came time for the cartoon not even the quotation marks slowed me down. I get the answer, but fail to appreciate it. Until tomorrow stay well.
Good morning again. The BEAVER having a new job stood on his PERCH and played EMCEE and FLATLY nailed his new position.
LOL! I guess we can say he really sunk his teeth into it, didn’t he? ๐ Funny, great sentence.๐๐ป๐๐ป..Good Morning…You done good Brooklyn! ๐งต๐๐ป
Good Morning Again, Mike…Good Morning, Everyone…Good Morning Chuck, Good Morning Again, Paul…Here’s the THREAD I followed…๐งต๐๐ป
ยฐ Since he was the EMCEE, he realized how important it was to catch the BEAVER, but he FLATLY refused to set any kind of a trap that would harm it, and proved himself VERY CAPE-ABLE by setting up a PERCH filled with beans and corn…
ยฐ She didn’t mind the beard at first, in fact it was appealing,
But soon a BEAVER he looked like…and that just changed her feeling…
It started to become a PERCH…and food was catching in it,
He could have held a concert with an EMCEE doing his bit…
She told him right out FLATLY…”The beard has got to go…”
But he said he just couldn’t, so his answer was a no…
And that was when she left him…the bond was now quite breakable,
Til later when he did return..Hairless…and VERY CAPE-ABLE!
Good morning (again), Angela! ๐๐๐ป๐ง
Well, Good Afternoon now…I was at a meeting, SEW I couldn’t get back to you sooner. The HB? You know my vote’s for Hanna-Barbera. There’s a connection there with DC Comics, that started back in 1991, when HB was purchased by the Turner Broadcasting System…and then in ’96 DC’s parent company, Time Warner merged with Turner, which brought the Hanna-Barbera’s Cartoon Network under the same corporate umbrella as the DC Universe…Theres’s a lot out there under the THREAD of Hanna-Barbera, but I had to FLY out earlier, so I wasn’t CAPE-ABLE of reading it all.. But this link may explain some of it…https://tinyurl.com/y3e2nk38 If I get some time, OWL look for another article…๐๐ป
Awesome job, Paul!
The EMCEE FLATLY refused to do the show if his pet BEAVER was not allowed to eat its favorite food backstage, which happened to be fried PERCH.
Fried PERCH! ๐๐ป๐๐ป So imaginative! Major Kudos, Chuck! VERY nicely done! ๐๐ป
Your sentence was DAM good, Chuck! ๐
It’s nice to get the letters A B L E when there are quotation marks. Otherwise, it would have been much more difficult!
100% agree, Clay.
Do you have any thoughts on the meaning of HB? Youโre one of my go-to guys for the tiny details. ๐
Beaver was looking like braver at first, but otherwise no problems with the anagrams. No rain for over 24 hrs, here, but more rain in the forecast for later today, and tomorrow and the next 6 or 7 days!
The puzzle was so easy today I got all the words, like my friend Paul. One, two, three and I was done. Love hearing all the comments from everyone. Angela, you are wonderful with each and every puzzle. You amaze me how well you put the words together. Stay well. Marie from Brooklyn.
Hi Marie…I wondered yesterday if you were “Paul’s Marie”, but I didn’t want to seem presumptuous…But after reading your “my friend Paul” I’m thinking you must be. Thank you very much for your kind words, you’re very sweet to offer them. And I’m so glad to see you commenting here..Paul always said he’d like you to, and I hope you continue to do SEW! And here’s a Shout Out to Brooklyn…where my heart โค๏ธwill always be! Take care, and I wish you a wonderful day, Marie! …(And I’m with you..it was an easy, breezy one…No looking for a NEEDLE in a haystack today)! Ciao, Bella! ๐๐ป
Sitting at his PERCH by the side of the stage, the EMCEE FLATLY refused to introduce BEAVER Nelson as the next performer in our concert presentation.
Beaver Nelson, Overnight Sensation https://tinyurl.com/yxkta89t
LOL! ๐๐ป๐๐ป Mike ..I’m not familiar with your BEAVER..but I guess he’s a HERO to somebody out there! Have a good one! ๐๐ป
Couldnโt see BEAVER. Once the resident ESL student helped me out, the rest was a breeze.
Well Iโll be DAMMED! John needed a helping hand!!!
Hi all – No problem with the words, only because I remembered seeing EMCEE before. Had to write the letters for the answer, saw ABLE, then CAPE, then VERY.
So Mike, thatโs not โOwl-Manโ, eh?
When I looked at the details online, I wondered if the tailor had inserted a tricky CLAWS in the contract.
Angela, thought youโd go with the obvious song –
๐ตโWhoooo are you? Who, who, who, who?โ๐ต
โ โWho Are Youโ, The Who 1978. Keith Moonโs expressions while drumming are priceless. As a bonus, he has his headphones duct-taped to his head!

Have a great day, everyone!
โThe EMCEE was fired when his pet BEAVER FLATLY refused to climb onto his PERCHโ
Hey, Steve…That is Owlman..It says so right there in the cartoon…And Mike did say SEW…And there was no time this morning for me to consider any music..I was FLYING by the seat of my pants…But if I did, I’d probably have gone with a TAYLOR SWIFT number..She’s one of THE BEST, and.It would have been a good FIT! ๐ I like your sentence..๐๐ป๐๐ป Nicely done! Have a great day, G! ๐๐ป
I meant they didnโt include a hyphen in his name, ร la โSpider- Manโ ๐๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
LOL..Oh, ok. That one FLEW right over my head! ๐๐๐ป
Quite an astute observation, Steve. I didnโt even look for a hyphen! ๐
I would say Hawk Boy but he looks a little old for that title. https://comicvine.gamespot.com/hawkboy/4005-72922/
Must be Hanna-Barbera since it appears twice in the cartoon!
Iโve been thinking about it throughout the day. Could HB stand for hummingbird? The bird type creature in the background sorta kinda looks like one. Also, the tailor looks like a young Edna from The Incredibles movie. Well, her glasses do!
Hey Mike…Hummingbird might be doable, but she’s a Marvel Comic book Superhero, and Jeff did Marvel back on May 2nd. Also, Hummingbird is portrayed as a women, (and an attractive one at that), sans any bird-like facial feature..and this girl is sporting one serious facial feature! The Edna’s a good call though…and she does create costumes for Super Heroes…Plus, being the brainchild of Brad BIRD puts an interesting spin on things! It’s all very interesting…Now all we need is for “someone” to become our HERO and SEW it all up for us! ๐๐๐ป
And….Look what I just saw…Vogue Italia published a biography of Edna, in which author Valentina Fabbri described her as a character who “knows SHE’S THE BEST” and she doesnโt hide it…The same description as in the character’s dialogue!…The plot thickens..MOLTe twists…as the Italians would say! ๐๐ฆ๐๐ป
*** FYI EVERYONE***. IN HONOR OF NATIONAL SENIOR HEALTH & FITNESS DAY TODAY, DAVID’S SHARED THIS VIDEO ABOUT THE JUMBLE. JUST SCROLL DOWN SOME AFTER IT OPENS, AND YOU’LL SEE DAVIDS’ FACE…ENJOY! ๐๐ป
