Jumble Answer for 12/29/2018

RI   RN   T   OO   =  “ROT” IRON

Good Morning, Everyone! 🔧WELD, WELD, WELD, WROUGHT HAVE WE HERE🔧

🎶 Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above…Don’t FENCE me in…Let me ride through the wide open country that I love…Don’t FENCE me in…Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze, and listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees, Send me off forever, but I ask you please…Don’t FENCE me in…🎶 “Don’t Fence Me In” – Roy Rogers 1944   https://tinyurl.com/y7tmkspu

🔧 Iron working’s quite involved, I have a friend who’s chosen,
To make it his career, and he’s told stories of locks frozen…
He can ATTEST to RAVEN-colored metal being strong,
And when he sees a DOODLE of graffiti…it’s so wrong.
He’s worked on gates so RELIC-like, they give him quite a jolt,
But being quite proficient, it’s all just nuts and bolts…
I’ve watched him hang a new gate, seems like he’s hardly tryin’
He’s good at his profession, and he’d never deal “ROT” IRON!🔧

Today’s words…Here’s what’s HANGINGRELIC. Would you believe in the 4+ years since Mike’s been posting this blog, RELIC has appeared 10 times! You heard me right..10 times! And oddly enough only once has it been anagrammed as it is today! Now if we’ve seen it 11 times as of today, can you imagine how OLD this word is, and how far back it must go beyond these 4 years? I don’t know about you, but I’m fascinated by these little idiosyncratic tidbits! Of course, as you’d expect, our other words pale in comparison…RAVEN‘s been seen only once, and is our most recent entry, at March 16th, ’18, and DOODLE and ATTEST have made a few appearances. ATTEST was DECLARED the stumper, since too many of the Early Birds saw ESTATE and mistakenly thought they were HOME free!…Ok, on to our cartoon…with WARP Speed!

Outside a Mansion, we find ourselves placed at the decaying portal of a GATE. WARPED and hanging poorly…It’s definitely a PLIGHT for sore eyes. The two workers present, who are called IRON WORKERS, despite working mainly with STEEL, surprised by its’ condition, can be overheard saying how they “can’t believe it’s still standing”, and “it’s pretty rusted”. What it is… is ROTTED. The GATE was made of ..”ROT” IRON! HA! Good one…Another good one, that David has WROUGHT!

Eye candy? Mansion, Black silhouetted in the background…A Terra-Cotta colored brick wall stands enclosing the property. The full-bearded IRON WORKER at front, holds a lit TORCH and what appears to be a Graber harness bag. He’s wearing a WELDING HELMET. The second worker, standing at the Black GATE, sports a soul patch and a rather odd haircut. TBT, he appears a little BURNED out. No tools, no helmet, no goggles…kind of a HEAVY METAL look to him, but there is something on his left wrist that may be a watch, I’m not STEELy sure…Both of them are dressed in Blue Work Shirts. But once again today, I think I have to go with the Bye Candy, the “What’s missing”...Neither one of these guys are wearing Gloves…WELD, that’ll never do! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! IRON done here! 🔧🙋🏻

  1. I know rot iron when I see it and with that recognition it was a pretty easy solve as I attacked raven & doodle with great relic. Attest came into quick focus knowing my missing letter to a “t”. Continue to look forward to the daily work you add to this. Keep up the good work and you are wished a happy and prosperous new year!

    • LOL! As I would RUST you do! Good Morning, Jim. It was an easy solve, despite those dreaded quotation marks that oft times send some of us into a STEELspin! 😉 And Kudos to your “knowing your missing letter to a “t”! 👏🏻 Thank you very much for your kind words, they’re greatly appreciated. And I wish you too, a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Be well! 🔧🙋🏻

  2. Good morning. My choice for hardest word would be Relic. Looking at all four words you would think that it should be the easiest or at least right behind Raven. Sometimes it’s the simplest words they give us the most trouble. The cartoon answer was a snap after looking at the seven letters. Another cute finish. Angela, another good song choice and overall post. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hey Brooklyn..Good Morning….RELIC? Yea, but many times have you used it lately? Think about it…Guaranteed it hasn’t come up in conversation on…say…the Bocce Court?! 😉 It’s not a common word. And I do feel the 5-letter words can prove more of a challenge. Anyway, what counts is that you stuck with it. right? Agree, the answer was a given, and very clever to boot…Thanks for the Shout Outs, Brooklyn…Hope you’re having a good one! 🔧🙋🏻

  3. Count me in the group that saw “estate” rather than attest, which lead me to ‘ore’ iron rather than ‘rot’ iron.Fortunately I saw the errors in my ways, that I attribute to over sleeping.I awoke at first at 5:50 which would be our Sat morning wake up time, if we were heading N to Reagan country,Dixon,to watch the twins, but we weren’t going today,so I returned for more shut eye until almost 9:00., when I finally awoke in a groggy state.

    • Good Morning, Professor! That’s exactly where my friends were this morning…”ore” Iron! And tried to justify it too…😂 Happens to the best of us. I really thought this was a very clever play on “Wrought”..very clever…I hear you with the sleep. I posted around 1:30 and fell out until 5. But then I did like you…went back to sleep around 7…Worse thing…Now I’m feeling like somebody’s standing on the back of my neck! Hard to hold my head up! 😂 I’ve got my nights and days so mixed up, it’s hard to make sense of it anymore. A few more days, get past New Years, and hopefully things will settle down. As for you, with all that driving you do? You’re entitled to all the extra shut eye you can get! Hope you get to relax today…you deserve it! Have a good one, Prof! 💤🙋🏻

    • 👏🏻👏🏻 DUG DEEP for this one, huh? Kudos, Chuck! Looks like you’re upping your game! Giving me a run for my money! I especially like the RELIC DOODLE…The original graffiti! I was dabbling with it before, but I was having a hard time getting past Edgar Allan! 😉 I think Raven, I think Poe..It’s an old TAIL with me! Maybe I’ll get another coffee and SEED if I can FOWLow your lead! 😂🙋🏻

    • Chuck; They would all ATTEST that the RAVEN-haired beauty was the one who left a DOODLE of a skeleton in the library’s book of RELIC Greek remains.

By now, he’d read The RAVEN so many times, his copy looked like an old RELIC, and he would ATTEST “NEVERMORE” 😉 when asked how many additional times he planned to DOODLE through it…

(This second ones a real FLIGHT of fancy)! 😂🙋🏻

    • Good Morning, Betty! You’re in good company, since the guys were SWEARING this morning that it wasn’t ATTEST. Estate was just BUILDING a following! And yes, I agree it’s an “ORE-IDA” puzzle! 😉 Happy Saturday, Betty! 🔧🙋🏻

  4. The song “Don’t Fence Me In” brings back a lot of memories. Roy’s back up singers (Sons of the Pioneers) always gave me chills when they sang “Cool Clear Water”. Thanks for stirring up some good memories, Angela!!

  5. Hi all – I’ve been kicked off the ESTATE – what I was trying to get was SETTEE before seeing ATTEST. RAVEN actually took me the most extra looks. A double application of the double letter trick for DOODLE.
The only thing I could think of for the answer was PIG IRON, so had to write the letters.

With the chills inspired by the cartoon and RELIC you may have thought Poe, Angela, but it reminded me of Lovecraft’s decrepit mansion where the Terrible Old Man of Kingsport Mass. sat talking to vibrating leaden pendulums suspended in peculiar glass bottles.

And on that cheery note, I wish you all a wonderful Saturday and holiday weekend!

    • Hey, Steve. DOODLE Magic! Or was it Magic Doodle? I could swear the kids had that toy! 😉Chills from the cartoon? NEIGH, G! Read it again…Chills from the song…RUST me, not the cartoon! 😂 Hope you’re having a good one! 🔧🙋🏻

    • Yes, it is a sweet double feature, and you’re very welcome..But I hope I haven’t upset you. Me? This time of year I’m in a perpetual state of watery eyes! 😉 Glad you enjoyed it, Chuck…🙋🏻

    • I’m not sure if I did, Prof, but I know now! Tks for the information. You never know what you’ll learn from this place! 👍🏻🙋🏻
