WSODNI – DISOWN

CARTOON ANSWER: BEING DEALT A ROYAL FLUSH AND WINNING – – –

HNA   GAD   DNH   ION =   GO HAND IN HAND

Good Morning, Everyone!                 ♠️  I GOTTA’ HAND IT TO YOU…♠️

🎶 He said, “Son, I’ve made a life out of READIN’ PEOPLE’S FACES, knowin’ what the cards were by THE WAY THEY HELD THEIR EYES...So if you don’t mind me sayin’, I can see you’re out of aces…For a taste of your whiskey, I’ll give you some advice”…He said, “If you’re gonna PLAY THE GAME, boy you gotta LEARN TO PLAY IT RIGHT…You’ve got to know when to hold ’em…Know WHEN TO FOLD ‘EM…There’ll be time enough for countin’, when the dealin’s done…🎶 “The Gambler”Kenny Rogers 1979.              https://tinyurl.com/y9mr5q2x

♠️ The key to playing Poker…well to playing for the win…
Is putting on a Poker Face, and not some silly grin.
So seeing that our girl here has HYENA traits a showin’
I can’t help but keep thinking that the pot will not be growin’
I’m not sure who’s the foil here, so many smiles abound,
You can’t make grandstand gestures when you’re playing for a round.
Nobody here looks DRENCHed in sweat, they all seem quite amused..
So I’m not sure who’s in or not…I feel a bit confused.
Maybe it’s just a friendly game, maybe those chips aren’t real..
‘Cause Poker calls for ownership and DISOWN seems the feel…
Whatever’s going on here, we can see her cards are GRAND
And winning with that Royal Flush, a true GO HAND IN HAND!♠️

All of today’s words are Sweet Repeats, with DISOWN being seen as recently as Octobet 14th. A little quirk, GRAND appeared on The 15th of November last year, and DRENCH the very next day. Our oddest word, HYENA was last seen on December 28th. A few of the Early Bird Jumblers had a little tic with DRENCH, but DISOWN CHIPped away at them the most this morning, with FIVE of them seeing Wisdom at first glance….

So, our cartoon…Once again today, we’re GAMBLING. What’re the ODDS? Having just been at a Casino a few days ago, on the 1st of this month, today we find ourselves at what apPAIRS  to be someone’s basement, since a staircase is seen in the background at left. There’s a POKER GAME in progress, and Jeff, our resident cartoonist, has chosen to be in attendance. Perhaps it’s his residence! ANTE‘s at a table with THREE others, who may be “real life” characters, but I can’t be sure. At first glance, my eyes immediately went to the bald man at front, who I thought to be David. But because of the heavy eyebrows and rather exaggerated jowl, I wouldn’t PUT MY MONEY on it. We see our sole woman player, holding a ROYAL FLUSH in her HAND, with the 10-JACK-QUEEN-KING and ACE of SPADES clearly visible. Nice detail, Jeff. And since nothing beats what she’s HOLDING in her HAND in a POKER GAME…and those double H’s and D’s were hard to miss, our solution was a simple one…The ROYAL FLUSH and WINNING? They…GO HAND AND HAND! Good one, David! Once again, you’ve HANDed us a WINNER!

OK, eye candy…The panel’s shaded in light teal, but the colors today are very vibrant. The CHIPS are all RED ones, which are FIVE dollar CHIPS, so it looks like the entire POT is under $200. It seems that Jeff and the other gentleman playing are “ALL IN” too, since there are no CHIPS showing in front of them. They’re both TALKING TRASH to our woman, trying to unnerve her, and cause her to FOLD, but she’s got her MIND SET on WINNINGDIRTY pool, Guys! The other man, who apPAIRS  to be a little older, is wearing a gray pull OVER, with yellow striped sleeves, and he’s sporting a rather oversized chain with an amulet of some kind at his neck. His eyeglasses are trendily red-stemmed. He’s wearing a black cap, and the image on the white inset looks like a familiar LOGO, but I’m DRAWING a blank, and I just can’t identify it. Perhaps one of you may recognize it. The woman, is sporting a very unique hair cut, which is what LEADS me to believe she’s a friend of Jeff’s. Her right ear has THREE piercings with THREE small loop earrings. And Jeff is dressed in one of his favorite signature black Poi Band T-shirts. If you look real closely, you can see the Logo visible behind his cards. But here’s the TWO things that I’m finding to be the raw DEAL. The bald gentleman at front. I really don’t think it to be David, mostly because of the sinister look of him., especially the dark-bridged eyebrows…But, above his left ear? There’s THREE little MARKings..and whenever Jeff DRAWS a caricature of Dave, he places the exact same THREE dots. A conundrum..And the real WINNER for me today? He doesn’t seem to be HOLDING a HAND, the PILE is too thick. He’s HOLDING what looks to be the remainder of the DECK of cards. So is he the DEALER? And if so, no one HOLDS a deck of cards like that, FOUR fingers or not! The THUMB should be at top, not the bottom. So I’m really LEFT wondering, and the eye candy becomes the “SHY candy”…I’m just SHY of making up my mind! What do you all think? Let me know…So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…and I’ll FOLD with a little POKER JOKER…What do you call a Comedian who plays POKER? A JACK of all SPADES…and a Master of PUNS! ♠️🙋🏻

  1. The GRAND Vizier wanted to DISOWN his son for laughing like a HYENA during a council meeting but decided to DRENCH him with a seltzer bottle instead.
HYENA slowed me down a little but the others were easily unscrambled and the solution was not overly difficult for a Saturday.

    • Good Morning, Earl. The howls are beginning to come in for Hyena, and it may just OUT RUN the pack today. It’s already freezing down here Earl, and I heard upstate’s in the 20s. And the winds are howling as bad as the Hyenas..Looks like wnter’s coming early! .Stay warm, and have a good one! ♠️🙋🏻

  2. Good morning. I see that I’m the lone wolf so far this morning. Yesterday I spoke of the hammer falling possibly in the next two days. Well, for me it did. I was stuck on the first word and finally had to look it up. Should have been able to get it but hey,not everything is always peaches and cream. After assorting the letters and putting them in pairs I was able to figure out the two four letter words which left the final answer. Took way to long for me to figure it out. Angela, you outdid yourself on the song choice, poem and puns. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Paul. Lone WOLF, good one! As I just told Earl, I’m beginning to hear stirrings over HYENA. So, you’re not alone. I think the reason may be that in the English language, we’re used to the Y ending a word, preceded by a consonant…So looking at the letters, most minds are trying to form a word using that principle. It just might be the stumper today. Thanks for the Shout Outs, it was fun all around, and I am a Poker player, so it came easy…Only thing, I used the exact same song as I did the other day…actually it fit far better with today’s puzzle, since the lyrics do DEAL with Poker. The other day was Blackjack and Roulette…but by any other name..it’s still Gambling! Peaches and Cream…remember them? I should look up some of their music and fit it in some day! 😉 Have a good one, Brooklyn. Stay warm…♠️🙋🏻

  3. I originally thought hyena had 2 n’s and also saw wisdom before disown, but getting by those stumbling blocks and the presence of double han’s directed me to a quick solution,As an aside we’re back in Dixon on twin watch, but my paper delivery person was so early in the 15 degree morning air, that I got my papers before we left on our trip.

    • 15? Already? Ouch! Boy you’re sure not just whistling DIXON with that kind of temp so eaty into the season…You have my sympathies, Prof! Good morning…Another HYENA howl…who knew? As for the delivery person…how early is early? I always get mine between 4:30 and 5. But with the cold and winds we have here this morning? ..I think I’d have gone STRAIGHT back into bed…Actually I did! 😂 It’s the best place to be when the winds are howling out there…Coffee and blankets and morning news…and sleep! Enjoy the girls, Prof, and I wish you all a wonderful day! Stay warm….♠️🙋🏻

      • My papers are also delivered as early as 4-5 but typically on Sat due to late Fri night sports scores, they sometimes are after 6, but indeed were well before our 6:30 departure time this morning.

      • We really owe a debt of gratitude to these delivery people, right? It’s not an easy job, by no means. My nephews did it for years, and I’d help them out sometimes…Trust me, it’s no picnic. The sorting, the binding, the packing…the carrying…the actual delivering…In all kinds of weather besides..And early to boot! I give them all a tip of the cap…And an appreciative tip itself too!😉 They well deserve it, right? And I’m a good Santa to him at Christmas too…😉🎅🏻🙋🏻

    • Hi Chuck. Good Morning…It may be a landslide!!! 😉 You’re lucky to have a wife that gives you a HAND with the puzzle! An ACE in the hole as they say ’round the Poker Table! 😉 And yes, trow is a wonderful day…But why offer the sentiment now? Why not just come back trow and do it? As for God Bless America ..They may just be three of the sweetest words in the English language…especially these days…🇺🇸 Have a good one, Chiuck…See ya’ trow! ♠️🙋🏻

  4. Hi all – I got HYENA and DISOWN just from having seen them before – always want it to be WISDOM. DRENCH would have been harder, except that I always put CH together when it appears, both at the beginning and the end.
Couldn’t imagine what the first two-letter answer word would be, but just before writing the letters, the PAIR “GO HAND” appeared which led me STRAIGHT to the answer and left me FLUSH with victory, which SUITS me today.

Angela, I do believe that’s a Pittsburgh Steelers cap, what with the three diamonds and all. And I think only you would notice that three dots always appear on David’s head (I never did). Perhaps he’s a fan of Herb Caen’s 3-dot journalism or Bruce Jenkins’ Three Dot Lounge? Or maybe he should just HEAD STRAIGHT to his dermatologist.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    • Hey, Steve….Wisdom was hard to get past at first glance…I’m still hearing it from my friends. DRENCH though… It has two meanings, I don’t remember how or even when I learned of it, but it was stuck back there in the abyss. I had some extra time on my HANDS really early this morning, so after we calmed down from the quiz quips, he challenged me to writing sentences. Basking in his smugness at having killed me with the remarks, I hit him with: As he administered the DRENCH to the HYENA, he hoped the Zoo’s Managemnet staff would appreciate his GRAND gesture…and not DISOWN him…I have to say though, at least he’s gracious in defeat! 😉 When we’re alone anyway.😂…So now the slate’s wiped clean once again…Until the next Round Table…and then all BETS are OFF THE TABLE!…No pun intended! 😂😂 The logo..? Could be, I toyed with that. But the Steelers logo has the diamonds on the right, and the name on the left, and Jeff’s DRAWn this exactly the opposite. Who knows? Unless he TIPS HIS HAND, it’s another Jumble mystery…Alcoa came to mind too, but I wasn’t IN DUS TRY-mendous mood to keep looking! 😉 As for the MARKings always showing on David’s head? Maybe not HAIR nor there…but I always notice them…and you know me…I call a SPADE a SPADE!. I like your comical suggestions, but it’s just not something I care to take at FACE value alone…As for your Poker references? Kudos! SPOT on! 👏🏻👏🏻 And that’s all I got right now, G, I FOLD..But, we do make quite a PAIR! Have a good one, Bud! ♠️🙋🏻
