Happy Wednesday, Jumble chums! The first thing I did this morning was scour the cartoon in search of the “wealthy couple” that we’ve seen for the past two days. The majority of voters in yesterday’s poll, myself included, thought we’d see them once again but they were nowhere to be found. In their place was a fun cartoon with a fishing theme so let’s wade into the waters of today’s game by starting off with our clue words.
The lineup this morning featured four recycled favorites, but all of the anagrams were new. The only jumble that caused me to flounder a bit was DGREEN. David baited us by spelling out GREEN within the anagram and I took it hook, line and sinker! By rewriting the letters in the margin of my paper, I was able to construct a new anagram and reel in the answer. FUSION was also a mighty fine jumble but I was able to hook onto it right away. It was last used in gameplay on 12/24/16 making it the oldest clue word of the bunch.
Our cartoon brings us to a lake where we see a traffic jam at a small boat launching dock. There are five vehicles in the panel with each one towing a boat. Our cartoon sentence reveals that this particular lake is a popular spot for anglers while the dialogue between the characters informs us that they’ve been waiting their turn for hours.
The panel seemed overcrowded, but that was the whole point of the cartoon. It made the fine details rather difficult to sea, but I’ll point out a few that caught my eye. The man standing behind the truck with a boat partially in the water was wearing a hat with a logo of a fish jumping out of water. The character next to him had a hat with a single “J” on the front which presumably stands for Jumble. He’s also holding a beverage cup in his hand and there’s a line coming out of the top indicating that it’s hot. Directly behind him is a man in a truck that has sunglasses on and some large dice hanging from his rear view mirror. Circling back to the vehicle putting the boat in the water, I noticed a tiny detail that ended up being my favorite. There are a few action lines around the rear brake light which gave the panel a splash of realism!
The layout for the surprise answer was an anagram containing 12-letters. The cartoon sentence said anglers instead of fishermen causing me to see FISH almost immediately. The ING suffix came next followed by a short solve of LINES for the finish. Not an overly difficult puzzle for a Wednesday but it was fun nonetheless. Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🎣
