THMGAEACTMSE = GAME, SET and MATCH

Good morning everyone, and happy Thursday! There weren’t any new clue words in the lineup this morning so instead it was a trip down memory lane with some old favorites. Both THUMB and GAUZE were instantly visible and took no effort to decipher. THUMB is the oldest word in todays game having last been used on 5/18/15 while GAUZE was last used exactly three years later on 5/18/18. ACCENT was the only word to slow me down which made it my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. It took an extra minute or so before I tried pairing up the C’s to finish it off. The Y and M placed together made MYSELF leap off the page to complete the quartet and allow me to begin working on the surprise answer.

A simple tennis themed cartoon was in store for us today with the game looking like it has just ended. We see four characters in the panel playing a doubles match and two of the characters are identical. I did take some time to carefully look at the twins to see if I could spot any differences but Jeff was very careful to make every detail exactly the same. While the twins jump for joy and high-five one another in mid-air, they can also be seen with huge smiles on their faces. Our other two characters are drawn with emotions of defeat and anger which in effect made the twins stand out even more in the cartoon.

My favorite part of the cartoon was the shape of the shading between the two characters that lost the match. I’m sure it’s purely coincidental, but doesn’t the shading look to be in the shape of the State of Michigan with Toronto just to the right? For some reason it jumped out at me and now I can’t “un-see” it!!!

The final solve was instant after reading the cartoon sentence. The letter layout was an impressive 12-letters long, but the given word of “and” gave it all away for me. My fingers are crossed for a challenging puzzle tomorrow since we’ve had it way too easy this week. Have a tremendous Thursday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!
