Jumble Answers for 01/20/2019

Good Morning, Everyone!           🎶WE CAN WORK IT OUT🎶

🎶 Because you know I’m all about those WEIGHTS, ‘Bout those WEIGHTS, no TREADMILL..I’m all ’bout those WEIGHTS, ’bout those WEIGHTS, no TREADMILL, I’m all ’bout those WEIGHTS, ’bout those WEIGHTS, ’bout those WEIGHTS…🎶 “All About That Bass” – Meghan Trainor 2014   https://tinyurl.com/kpjrk4n

🏋🏻 For those who know of Muscle Beach, the story is a good one,
A place where people work out ‘neath the California sun…
A GENTLE breeze surrounds you, like CANCAN dancers frills,
And no need to TRUDGE to a gym to get your workout thrills.
The COSMOS all around you, wide spaces where you’d SWIVEL,
Nobody right on top of you, no listening to drivel…
You see these happy people, where once we had seen Gidget,
In gym attire of all kinds, around their necks a WIDGET.
A great place for a visit, or perhaps you may belong…
But either way, 85 years…and it’s STILL GOING STRONG...🏋🏻

Of our 6 words today, only 4 were found in our listings. CANCAN and WIDGET seem to be joining us for the first time. And except for COSMOS, which appeared in 2017, and just happens to be the one word that caused a FIT or two this morning, we’ve WORKED OUT the other three words within the past 9 months…

Before we begin today’s cartoon, I have to get something off my CHEST. Today’s puzzle seemed familiar, so I went looking through my files, and found the Jumble from New Year’s Eve, 2017. That day we had a puzzle about older guys in their 70s and 80s LIFTING WEIGHTS in a GYM. And the puzzles’ answer was?…WEIGHT for it…Yep, STILL GOING STRONG!...What’re the odds?  Anyway…Despite a good portion of the country being in the midst of a winter storm, our cartoon today brings us to sunny Los Angeles, California, and places us at MUSCLE BEACH, https://tinyurl.com/y7zkbhxo the famous outdoor GYM. We see 13 figures, 6 in blackened silhouette, one of which is lifting WEIGHTS way in the backgroundOf the 5 secondary action characters, left to right, we see a man BENCH PRESSING, a man with DUMBBELLS, a man using a Cable BICEPS Bar Machine, a woman on a Leg Raise Machine, and a man sitting, lifting a BARBELL under the Beach’s concrete BARBELL SCULPTURE. And ourmain characters at front, are a man in a gray Batman Tank and blue Shorts lifting a BARBELL, and saying that his family has been TRAINING there for years, and a woman, clad in a black Sports Bra and Sweatpants, lifting DUMBBELLS and remarking about how the area has grown over the years. A yellow sign reading MUSCLE BEACH VENICE is hanging from an overpass. And as our question states…MUSCLE BEACH, founded in 1934, is STILL GOING STRONG. “Still Goin’ Strong” – Alabama 1993  https://tinyurl.com/y6vdfeqo%C2%A0  Now how cool is that? Both the BEACH and David’s UPLIFTING play on words! Very clever…even though we didn’t need any HEAVY LIFTING to solve this one today!

Ok…eye candy. Except for the 2 main characters at front, the entire background is shaded in purple. The sky is a clear bright blue, with two puffy clouds afloat. Eight Palm Trees, and a lot of beautiful bodies...And that’s the SWOLE story…Need I say more? So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone. And I’ll leave you with a favorite saying of a friend of mine who just can’t seem to stick with a program…”I’ve been trying to DIET and WORK OUT for years, but with no luck. So I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that the only way I’m going to get “Smokin’ Hot” is by being cremated…”…All new meaning to FEEL THE BURN, huh? 🏋🏻🙋🏻

  1. Cosmos came quickly to me as did the other words, though I wasn’t sure of the validity of widget as a legitimate word.We did make it home Fri afternoon before our 4 inches of snow Fri night,so the real papers have been back available.Enjoy the Sun and MLK holiday.

    • Good Morning, Professor. Yes, I could see your questioning…strange little word, isn’t it? All in all, a pretty simple puzzle ..I’m not sure who’s having any sun today..it’s dark and rainy here in NY..but at least we dodged the snow…Perfect weather to cacoon with food and football…Have a good one, Chuck.Stay warm. 🏋🏻🙋🏻

        • Craziest weather. We’re at 40, but it’s windy..and sooo dark..And we’re on tap for the single digits t’row…with ridiculous wind chills plunging below zero…💨🙋🏻

  2. Good morning. No trouble with the words except for Widget which I had to look up. All I could make out of it was twiged, which was of no use. After writing down all the letters the answer came within two minutes. They keep coming with very satisfying answers. Angela thanks for the links to extra material. First time I saw the video of the female singer and enjoyed it. Your second choice was spot on. I answered you last night but left out one thing. My wife didn’t add tomatoes in her chicken soup and made two soups for me the German way like my mother. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Twiged…Isn’t that when you park under those low hanging branches, and they scrape your hood? You got twiged? Oh WEIGHT, I think that’s 2 G’s…Twigged! 😂😂 Good Morning, Brooklyn…I did see your message last night, and I answered you…Go back and look…And I’m surprised to hear that your wife didn’t put tomatoes in her chicken soup…I thought we all did…I’m not talking fresh tomatoes, I mean canned…you know, what we use to make sauce. I thought it was the law! 😂 Anyway, of course she’d make you soup like your Mother did…I think that’s the first thing we women do…get the Mothers’ recipes…you know what they say…”The way to a man’s heart…etc”😉 . Glad you enjoyed the music, Paul, you’re very welcome…I debated which to use as the intro, but I settled on the whimsical one…It just gave me a chuckle…Thanks for the Shout Out, and I agree, it was a cute easy answer…Hoping you’re having a good day, Brooklyn! ..Prepare for the deep freeze! 💨🙋🏻

  3. No problem with the words or cartoon solution this morning. Rainy and windy here this morning. Hope all of you in the Midwest and East are faring okay in what were predicted to be big storms. Happy Sunday to everyone.

    • Hi Betty. Yes, it was an easy breezy one today. My weather’s mirroring yours..Rain and wind…Luckily, we dodged a bullet, no snow. It went all upstate…Just have to get through some sub zero temps tonight and tomorrow and we’ll be alright…Have a Happy Sunday too, Betty! 🏋🏻🙋🏻

  4. Hi all – The answer was instant. Then CANCAN took an extra look, then GENTLE; then had to back into, not WETDIG (excavating a sewer) or WEDGIT (Brit-speak for a married jerk), but WIDGET.

Speaking of COSMOS, tonight’s “Super Blood Wolf Moon” total lunar eclipse should be pretty amazing. If, like me, you’re expecting your skies to be too cloudy, it’s being live-streamed various places including timeanddate.com.

Loved your rhyming Widget with Gidget and the closing joke Angela.
Hope you all have a happy and safe Sunday.

Elton John played his last concert in Oakland on Friday, bringing his “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” tour to Oracle Arena. Here’s a set list for the ages. (I would only have also wished for “Come Down in Time”). They said he got particularly emotional about “Border Song”, because his early career got a boost when Aretha Franklin covered it:

“Bennie and the Jets” “All the Girls Love Alice” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” “Border Song” “Tiny Dancer” “Philadelphia Freedom” “Indian Sunset” “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)” “Take Me to the Pilot” “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” “Levon” “Candle in the Wind” “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” “Burn Down the Mission” “Believe” “Daniel” “Sad Songs (Say So Much)” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” “The Bitch Is Back” “I’m Still Standing” “Crocodile Rock” “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” “Your Song” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”

    • Hey G. There was a lot going on on Twitter and it lead me last night to the articles in both the Chron and the Mercury News. He’s coming here to Brooklyn Barclay in March. It’s a grueling schedule, right, especially at his age…But I still think he’s going to show up in Vegas every once in awhile after it’s over..I saw him twice..he’s definitely the Showman…The NY Times has a big article on the eclipse..I doubt much of anything may be visible here, it’s been raining since y’day and the sky’s darkened all day so far.. (people here saying good thing it’s after the games )! 😂 Tks for the Shout Out, Steve..Gidget got into my head as soon as I saw Widget, and I figured maybe it was meant to be…since we were in California! 😉 I mean, it would never fly if the guys brought us to Peoria, right?! 😂 The joke? Not such a joke…It’s one of the guys! 😉 Enjoy the games…”The Old vs The New”…Should be interesting…🙄🏈🙋🏻

      • I’m glad you got to read Jim Harrington in the East Bay Times (Mercury News, same thing). He’s particularly knowledgeable about *every* type and era of music. That was him writing about Brian Wilson playing the Beach Boys’ Christmas album last month. 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • It was his Tweets that lead my friend to tag me, that lead me to the article. I don’t know enough of his work to make a judgement call about him though….Are you intending to watch the games live? 🙋🏻

            • Ok…I want to know if I should say things or not! I just switched from the Caps game to the Pre-Game show. I don’t think it gets any better than Howie and Micharl and Bradshaw…He makes me LOL every time! You gotta love the guy. They’re all so good together, perfect personalities…I’m moving between rooms, so I’m going to watch both until the game starts…Are you watching the Capitals? 🙋🏻

  5. Hi Everyone –
SWIVEL took me the longest today.
Thanks for the info about Elton John’s concert, Steve. I’ve never seen him perform. “Your Song” has always been my favorite.
Our paper just got delivered because of all the snow. The delivery person wisely waited until most people had cleared their driveways. So far I think we’ve gotten around 16 inches over the past two days. The snow has been light so the shoveling hasn’t been difficult. Kids next door are having a great time playing on a large pile of snow.
