Jumble Answers for 11/22/2018

Happy Thanksgiving, Jumble friends! Today’s puzzle started out with two new clue words in BUTTE and SKULK. The other two were recycled favorites, but their anagrams were new. BUTTE was the only word that wasn’t instantly visible which made it my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. I’ve heard of the city of Butte in Montana but wasn’t sure if it had another meaning until I looked it up in the dictionary. It was defined as an isolated hill or mountain with steep or precipitous sides usually having a smaller summit area than a mesa. Looking back on all of the words, LIZARD was the oldest in the group and was last scrambled as DRAIZL on 9/1/14.

Since today is Thanksgiving, I was very happy to see that Jeff gave us a cartoon that went along with the holiday. At first glance, I immediately recognized that this was the same setting as last years panel. There were four Jumble characters in the foreground with two shadowed characters on a couch in the background. The characters were drawn differently than our normal cast which leads me to believe that these are some of Jeff’s friends. The man in the rear left of the panel holding a glass of wine appears to be magician Mac King. Mac’s wife, Jennifer Sils, is probably the woman in the “kiss the cook” apron.

The cartoon had some great detail work with the plump turkey being the star of the show. The bird was in a roasting pan and was surrounded by carrots, onions and some herbs. There was a bowl of stuffing on the counter and a dog getting a very close look! My favorite detail was split between the Lions and Bears football game on the tv in the background and the man holding a baster which I overlooked at first.

The letter layout for the final solution consisted of 12-letters. I knew the answer upon reading the cartoon sentence making this one an instant solve. I wish all of you a very happy Thanksgiving and I’ll see you tomorrow. Enjoy the day!!! ๐Ÿฆƒ

  1. ๐ŸŽถ Because you know I’m all about that BASTE, ‘Bout that BASTE, no treble…I’m all about that BASTE, ‘Bout that bass, no treble, I’m all about that BASTE, ‘Bout that BASTE, no treble…I’m all about that BASTE. ‘Bout that BASTE…BASTE…BASTE…BASTE…๐ŸŽถ ” All About That Bass” – Meghan Trainor 2014 https://tinyurl.com/kpjrk4n

๐Ÿฆƒ The Holiday Americans all celebrate en masse,
Distinction of religion just doesn’t come to pass…
We sit down with our loved ones, and those we just abide,
We gather to be thankful for what the Earth provides.
The groups all blend, the young, the old, together for this day…
The Cousin who wears LIZARD shoes, and SKULKs in the doorway..
The Aunt and Uncle from afar, who live out near a BUTTE,
And always manage somehow to dress in similar suits…
We sit and often wonder are these people kin to me?
Maybe we need to VERIFY, the whole lot..can it be?
But bottom line, we’ll eat, we’ll drink, until it all gets murky…
And once again the day does pass, where everyone TALKED TURKEY!๐Ÿฆƒ

Ok..Today’s words..Easy as PIE to solve, but I was unable to find either BUTTE or SKULK in our ArCHIVES. VERIFY, sure..back in 2016, and as for LIZARD…IGUANA tell you…it’s BEAN a real long time: We last SAUR it way back on September 1st, 2014..aMAIZEing, right?…Ok, on to our cartoon….

As I write this, it’s still very DARK. MEATing my fellow COOKS in about five hours, I’m hoping to get a lot out of the WEIGH before they even awake…It’s Thanksgiving Day, and once again we’re kicking off the Holiday SEASON celebrating with Jeff’s good friends, Mac King, and his very fetching wife, Jennifer Sils, the Hostess with the ROASTest. Four other men are present, but two of them are just silhouetted reSERVES. I’ll probably be lamBASTED for not recognizing the two who are MAIN characters, but TRUSS me, I YAM trying to identify them…The younger dark-haired man seen speaking with Mac in the FAMILY room has definitely BEAN INVITED here before, but I’m still DRAWING a blank. And the older gentleman…standing aBREAST of Jennifer? Somebody’s CRANpa, I’m sure, but I give up…Perhaps Mike’s had BUTTER luck with them…(which would definitely be a FEATHER in his cap), or maybe Jeff can SHED some light…But before this becomes Much Ado About STUFFING, I’m SQUASHing it, and moving on to the next COURSE…I’m looking at Jeff’s cartoon from last Thanksgiving, and two things seem a FOWL. The background brick wall wasn’t there last year, and there’s a cabinet missing over the oven. Perhaps some FIXING up was done. I suppose these are POULTRY little differences, but I Yam trying to set the SAGE…Anyway, STRUTting along…A football game is shown PLAYING on the TV, and it apPEARS to show #19, Kenny Golladay of the Detroit Lions being CORNered by #45, Joel Iyiegbuniwe of the Chicago Bears. Kenny’s losing his grip on the ball, and we can almost hear the guest on the couch yelling..”Kenny…you BUTTER NUT blow this play…” But we can see that ball SPIN…ACH a fumble for sure. This game, the Bears-Lions will really be played today, at 12:30…Nice deTAIL, Jeff…Back in the kitchen, the older man is heard telling Jennifer how to TACKLE the Turkey, but HEN we hear Jennifer tell him that she knows BASTE, and that this THYME, she’s BRINED the Bird…And here we have our SOLUTION, Folks! They TALKED TURKEY! So while Mac, looking a little DINNER this year, enjoys a glass of wine and his guest a Scotch on the ROCKs..WELL, I think it’s THYME to WRAP UP this cozy Thanksgiving scene…and yes, I’m READY to CHEWS our eye candy…

With the entire panel BRUSHED in a pretty shade of MAIZE, Jen and the men really stand out. Wearing her TRADITIONAL “Kiss the Cook” apron, in shades of GREENS, she’s looking beautiful, DRESSING herself in a sleeveless mauve sheath. Her hair is COMBed perfectly. Her COUNTERpart, wearing a SAGE colored shirt and a blue apron, is seen holding a TURKEY BASTER. The TURKEY, its’ SKIN a beautiful golden brown, lies in a ROASTING PAN, surrounded by onions, carrots, and parsley. Another gray empty pan is shown, and a big bowl of STUFFING completes the MEALieu. A black dog is seen just beyond the KITCHEN area, looking on…a BIRD Dog, perhaps? And then we have MAC…’n CHEESE smiling happily, clad in black pants and a shirt of WHITE, MEATing his guest, eye to eye. The guest, holding a cell phone in his PALM and DRESSED in a shirt and tie with a brown vest and pants, is joining him in a very animated conversation. MEN, U both look great! So the candy? The most GOBscure little thing? THIGH think it has to be that TURKEY BASTER. Poor Guy…Looks like he came OVEN READY, but that WISH? BONE Ami…you’ve BEAN outBIRD! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! And with no TYHME left to BASTE…I simply raise my GOBBLEt of wine to you and yours, and wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving Day…A day of Family, Food, Fun, Football, Health and Happiness…and most of all PEACE…๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. Thanks for revealing much in the puzzle I missed, Mike. The Jumble was bigger in our paper today but I suspect it’s just for one day. I had to back into all the words except LIZARD and also needed to verify BUTTE.
When our dog was a puppy, he barked angrily at the turkey sitting on the kitchen counter. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday.
I had fun last night listening to Rockin’ Robin and Tweedle Dee, which were mentioned yesterday.
Wishing you, Mike and family, and everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.

    • A bigger Jumble is definitely something to be thankful for, Caroline! My paper combined the Wed/Thurs editions and only printed todayโ€™s Jumble.
Thatโ€™s a cute story about your pup. My little guy would go crazy when he heard my electric carving knife. He knew that he would be getting some treats before everyone else.
Thanks for the warm wishes, and I wish you the same. Enjoy the day!!! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿฆƒ

  3. Skulk? Didn’t recognize it as a word at first but talked turkey was a given for the answer. My newspaper delivery lady set a new record for early delivery.Because of all the Turkey day ads,she got the paper yesterday and delivered before 1:30 this morning!
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

    • Holy moly, Chuck! Iโ€™m lucky if my paper gets here before 7. SKULK was a great word but not as hard for me as BUTTE. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s a regional word thatโ€™s more recognizable out west. Be well and enjoy the day! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. The scientist wanted to VERIFY the sighting of a rare LIZARD, purported to SKULK on the sunny side of the BUTTE.
    Have a wonderful day everyone.
Mike: I am not a Bears fan but I was curious about the player wearing number 45 on the tv in the background. Apparently one of the best Bears players to wear that number?

    • Great thought, Earl. I found that the number is currently worn by Joel Iyiegbuniwe, but numerous online articles say that Gary Fencik was the greatest player to ever wear it. 18 players in total have worn the number including Dick Gordon, Craig Clemons, Brock Vereen and Tony Stargell. Maybe Jeff will fill us in!
Great job on your sentence. I had no idea how you were going to fit BUTTE in there but it flowed perfectly as always. Enjoy the day! ๐Ÿฆƒ

  5. To verify the weather conditions, the lizard scaled the butte to skulk around its rim. Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Hi all – Thanks for the instant solve this morning (โ€œthank you very very very much!โ€).
Mike, so funny that yesterday you mentioned methods of preparing the turkey, and then this cartoon appears.
Mike and Angela, thanks for the details. Thereโ€™s a magnet above the kitchen sink right behind me that says โ€œKiss the cook – sheโ€™s Dutchโ€.

Iโ€™m thankful that the sun came up a normal color and the sky is blue!
Iโ€™m thankful for all of you who post here. The glimpses into your lives and different perspectives are always interesting. Iโ€™ve learned a lot, and had a LOT more laughs than I ever would have had otherwise.
Angela, Iโ€™m thankful for your daily posts and all the hard work you must do behind the scenes to keep this running smoothly.
Mike, Iโ€™m thankful for your love of Jumble and welcoming attitude that caused you to create this space for us to enjoy.
Last but not least, Iโ€™m thankful for the Jumble creators for keeping the franchise going in such an enjoyable manner. (Special thanks to David for adding 200 puzzles to his Word Search World Traveller app yesterday!)

Hereโ€™s a song from 1967 by The Scaffold, a group that included Paul McCartneyโ€™s brother Mike:

    • Hey, G. Tks, and you’re welcome. but I’ve always told you, no thanks are necessary. And I’m thankful for knowing you too…Hope your day goes well..Check your mail! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • Thanks for the kind words, my friend! Iโ€™m thankful for our friendship and your insightful baseball emails. I hope you didnโ€™t forget to kiss the chef today. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Good morning. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all. Hope everyone had a good time with family and friends. Today’s words were of little trouble but I still checked to make sure they were ok. I had doubts that they were legitimate words. The cartoon answer was easy as well. Thanks Mike for the hidden s t u f f we mortals always miss. Angela, aces again on the song choice. Yesterday you left two of the same songs by LaVerne Baker and Teresa Brewer. You picked Baker as the better of the two. Teresa Brewer is one of my favorite female singers. I was always amazed how that little thing could throw out such a powerful note. But I have to agree as much as i love her, LaVernes is better. Two of my granddaughters who listened with me also agreed. Thanks for the poem and puns. Your usual greatness.

    • Hey Brooklyn, Good Afternoon. Yes, it was an easy go of it today. My Father would agree with you about Teresa Brewer. He always liked her voice, and said she was a little powerhouse…But I’m glad you see what I meant about LaVernes’ rendition,,,she put that little bit of soul into the mix. I think that’s great that your Granddaughters enjoyed them also. How old are we talking? Never too young to be exposed to good music…You know I remember you saying that you stayed home in Brooklyn last year… One of my Uncles, no matter how many of us invited him today, just wants to stay home and chill. So we just brought him a bunch of STUFF, and he’s going to relax and watch TV. (I’m so burnt already, and so full from picking as we cooked, that I’m thinking he may know something we don’t)! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And we haven’t even started on the antipasto yet! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ It’ll be a longggggg day! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the Shout Outs, Paul, and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours…Hope you have a great day! ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Paul! We had the Bears/Lions game on in the background during dinner (just like in todayโ€™s cartoon) and it was rather entertaining until the end. Thanks for the kind words and have a great evening. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • The girls are 17amd 22.Both girls had no idea who the singers were and liked Teresa Brewers voice but liked LaVernes song better.

        • Hey Paul…Those are great ages. Nice that you could share it with them. We just finished eating about an hour ago…and to think we’re doing it again t’row. I’m gonna need an exorcism…๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  8. Butte took me the longest to figure out. The solution was obvious and timely. Hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
