GABYG = BAGGY
DEMMO = MODEM
VRALGE = GRAVEL
SOCARS = ACROSS
CARTOON ANSWER:
AFTER BEING CROWNED “JUMBLE CHAMPION,” HE PREFERRED HIS – – –
BAGDEMGRELCSS = EGGS SCRAMBLED
Happy Tuesday, Jumble players! This mornings puzzle gave us two brand new clue words in BAGGY and ACROSS. Even though the other two were old favorites, their anagrams were new which made for fresh gameplay. ACROSS was my most challenging word this morning because all I saw was OSCARS and couldn’t get it out of my head. MODEM would be my second place pick as it’s a word you just don’t see much of anymore. It’s also the oldest clue word of the group with its last appearance in the game on 5/12/17.
Today’s cartoon is a doozy and featured two Jumble characters placing a breakfast order with their waitress. The menu cover gives the location as “The Pun Also Rises Cafe” which is a terrible pun but in a very good way! The waitress immediately recognizes the male character on the left as being Paul which tells us that he’s a regular customer to the joint. When she asks him what he’d like to eat, he gives his response in Jumblese. If you weren’t able to figure out the anagrams, it solves into “GOOD MORNING! GIVE ME THE USUAL.”
After reading the cartoon sentence it is revealed that Paul has recently been crowned “Jumble Champion”. David and Jeff held a Jumble Symposium back in May so I believe the caricature that we’re seeing this morning is that of the winner. Congratulations on your win, Paul, and it must be a thrill seeing yourself in a Jumble cartoon!
The letter layout for the final solution was 13-letters in length. The anagram was extremely cryptic and gave absolutely nothing away. I found EGG after mixing up the letters on my notepad leaving SCRAMBLED to be found shortly thereafter. Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!
BONUS CONTENT:
Shortly after writing this, Jumble tweeted out the following statement:
That’s “JUMBLE CHAMPION” Paul L. and his brother Jerry in today’s Jumble. Paul is the reigning “JUMBLE CHAMPION” and has won the annual competition three times in a row! He is the undisputed “JUMBLE CHAMPION.” To read full story and see photos go to: facebook.com/jumble/

๐ถ SCRAMBLED EGGS, oh my Baby, how I love your legs…Not as much as I love SCRAMBLED EGGS… Oh we should eat some SCRAMBLED EGGS. Waffle fries, oh my Darling, how I love your thighs…Not as much as I love waffle fries, Oh have you tried your waffle fries? They are so damn good that they should be illegal…They’re like regular fries, but they are shaped like a waffle….Tofu wings, oh my Baby when I hear you sing…All I think about is tofu wings…Oh did you bring the tofu wings?๐ถ “Scrambled Eggs” – Sir Paul Mc Cartney and Jimmy Fallon 2010…(Dedicated to Mike McCormick). https://tinyurl.com/ya4x3gj7
๐๐ณThe contest sure was grueling, the competition fierce,
He’s thinking how he almost faltered when the word was Pierce…
His voice now sounds like GRAVEL, there was sweat ACROSS his brow,
It’s over and he’s won it, time for celebrating now.
He’ll start off with this breakfast, while the memory’s still clear…
Of past “Breakfast of Champions”…and now his time is here.
The BAGGY jeans he’s wearing, soon may not fit quite the same…
The partying has just begun, he’ll savor Jumbles’ fame…
So starting now sabbatical’s the word on which he’d gamble…
‘Cause Victory tastes oh so sweet along with his EGGS SCRAMBLED! ๐ณ๐
I’m too EGGScited to spend a lot of time on our words today. The Early Morning Jumblers were just ROCKed the tiniest little bit by GRAVEL…but it was nothing to TRIP OVER…Ok, I’m just RUNNING to our Cartoon…
This morning we find ourselves seated having Breakfast at “The Pun Also Rises Cafe”, a fictitious diner located somewhere in Woodstock, Illinois. Our characters, as you’ve probably already guessed, are real. A true fan of Jeff’s can notice right away. These characters are too distinctive to be any old “Just Jumble Joes”! The two gentlemen in the panel, are Paul Lockwood left, and his brother Jerry. Paul, winner of the past few Jumble Symposium contests, has been deemed the “FASTEST JUMBLER”, since 2015, and upheld his title this past May. But instead of writing it all out, I’m including a link here for you, that explains the whole thing…https://tinyurl.com/y9j3sfnq
And I think you’re going to really enjoy this story…I found it to be a real SPELLbinder!
As for our puzzle answer: We see Paul, CHEWsing to place his order in Jumblese. “GOOD MORNING! GIVE ME THE USUAL”..Which tells us that he’s a regular at the diner…(And there’s more, but you’ll need to read the article for all the details)! So what’s Paul ordering? EGGS SCRAMBLED! Good one, David! No, EGGScellent one, David! It surely went OVER EASY!
Ok, eye candy. The menus are a very cute touch, I love the title, and the Sun-rising logo…The “SUNNY SIDE UP”, so to speak…I like the pick-up window, with its dishes keeping warm under the overhead heat lamps. I thought it might be our guests breakfasts showing, but since the left one is SCRAMBLED EGGS, and the right one pancakes, I’d be BACON a mistake! As we can see, Jerry went with the EGGS TWO! And anyway, I’d be giving too much credit to that Short Order Cook, wouldn’t I? He’d really be CRACKED UP to be BUTTER than most if he could anticipate the orders like that…We have the requisite Salt and Pepper Shakers, and the Syrup Dispenser on the table…Nicely SET UP, Jeff…And we have our Waitress, with the four ear piercings, no name visible on her tag, but addressing Paul by name…Reminds me of a NORMal place, you know…..๐ถWhere Everybody Knows Your Name๐ถ? But it’s Paul’s newspaper, that’s SERVING up the Blue PLATE winner this morning…It’s showing the Family Circus, and a Jumble panel. And if you look real closely…Jeff’s drawn Paul, smiling and holding his #1 Trophy! Now that’s a BREAKFAST SPECIAL! Major Kudos, Jeff! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone!..And if you’ll EGGScuse me…Omelet you go now, and make an EGGSit…’Cause I’m totally EGGShausted! ๐๐ณ๐๐ป

It’s been many years since I had a song dedicated to me. I knew that “Scrambled Eggs” was Paul’s working title for “Yesterday” when he had the melody but hadn’t come up with the lyrics yet. This is the first time I’ve seen this spoof with Fallon. Here in Austin we’re still in the thralls of Sir Paul fever after he headlined at the Austin City Limits fest on both the 5th and the 12th of this month.

Good Morning, Sir Michael! I guess you’re officially a first! I’ve mentioned many a time in my comments that I may have been thinking of a particular person while I chose my song, but this time I just went ๐ถAll The Way๐ถ(Had to get my daily Sinatra fix (BMH) in there)! As soon as I saw this puzzle, I was head over heels, knowing what music I was going to use. And I just knew…๐ถIt Had to be You๐ถ. I’m just very surprised that you haven’t heard the lyrics before today, so I’m totally thrilled to give them to you…Let me know if you need the rest…And even the spoof’s eluded you? Then this is really your lucky day, isn’t it? ๐ Well, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it…and I’m just paying it forward…You’ve turned me on to some great Sir Paul stuff too…And I hope the afterglow you’re all feeling in Austin lasts for a long, long time…He’s definitely in a class by himself, isn’t he? But tell me..The other song dedicated to you years ago? Should I be jealous? ๐ Have a great day, Mike…And watch the clip again..It gets better every time! ๐ณ๐๐๐ป

Across can be oscars. Not the movie one but an African fish. The answer was fairly easy since scrambled letters are what Jumble deals with daily. Had to look back since oscars did not give me c.

Seeing the drooping BAGGY trousers ACROSS the GRAVEL path made the tech gal throw her MODEM in disgust.
Mike–thanks for the background information and pointing out the pun on the menu which I missed. I had no trouble with across but I could not get GABBY out of my head when it should have been BAGGY.
Another tip of the hat to a former Beatle. Thanks Angela. Not a song I am familiar with and I had no idea that “Scrambled Eggs” was the possible title for “Yesterday” Glad he switched. Thanks also for the link to Fastest Jumbler Contest.
Terrific poem and post: Tuesdays must be the day when your stars are all in alignment—brilliant job. Gorgeous day up here, although a nip in the air but perfect for a brisk walk which is next on my agenda.
Have a rewarding day all.

Good Morning, Earl…I’m performing a real juggling act this morning! Way too many balls in the air! ๐ Good thing I type fast!! You wouldn’t know the song, it’s never been recorded…Have you watched the clip that I’ve attached? …It explains it all. And if you’re a Paul McCartney fan, you’ll love it as much as I do…As for the link to Paul Lockwood’s story? A good one, right? Lucky guy! Thanks for the Shout Outs, you’re a Doll! The poem was a little challenging, only because I was dealing with an actual person, and his thoughts…So, I just did my best..Actually, no..I did what was best for the rhyming aspect! ๐ I’m sure our guy Paul had no such problem with the word Pierce! ๐๐
Now that you mention it, Tuesday’s usually are a little more laid back for me…I don’t have as many Early Birds pecking away at me…๐ But I pushed my luck, and went back to sleep this morning for just a little while…and it didn’t turn out EGGSactly as I’d hoped…So now, I’m trying to KETCHUP! But, your sentence had me LOL! Is anyone “in” those drooping BAGGY trousers? Walking ahead of her perhaps? I’m trying to get the full visual… ๐ And with your imagination? It’s hard to tell! ๐ Very brisk here too…beautifully clear and invigorating…And I’ve run out twice already…Once just to get a few more Mega Millions tickets…Hey- You never know! Wishing you an EGGScellent day, Earl! Ciao! ๐ณ๐๐๐ป

Good morning. Thanks again Mike on all your info. I had no knowledge of the winners. Angela,once again you stumped me on the song. Nice poem and puns with more facts regarding the champions. The words today were a little hard for me with Across being the hardest followed by Modem. In fact I skipped the last word and went to the cartoon,which was a complete blind solve. Knowing the three letters I needed I was able to see the last word which should not have been that hard to get. Another enjoyable jumble. Until tomorrow stay well.

Hey Brooklyn…Good Afternoon…As I told Earl, the song’s not really a song..Just a parody Paul McCartney did with Jimmy Fallon on his show one night…But it’s priceless. If you haven’t watched the clip I attached at the end, please do…I think you’ll enjoy it. Thanks for the Shout Outs,๐ but keep in mind, there’s was only one winner at the Symposium, the guy on the left, Paul. The other man in the cartoon is his brother…And no biggie if you didn’t have it OVER so EASY this morning…You’re still BACON me smile today! Have a great day, Paul! ๐ณ๐๐๐ป

Jim, once in awhile, my paper actually runs a puzzle called โSCRAMBLERSโ, but itโs a very pale and inferior imitation of Jumble.

Hi all – Tried GABBY before BAGGY, then ACROSS took me the longest. I was trying SC at the beginning before seeing CROSS. The rest of the words and the answer were instant. โWhatโs a MODEMโ? ๐ People are either too old or too young to get it. Only those โof a certain ageโ will. Excuse me, I have to answer my acoustic coupler!
Mike funny you should mention a Jumble Tweet, because this is the first time Iโve noticed that the puzzle has a line that says โFollow us on Twitter @PlayJumbleโ along with the usual Just Jumble plug.
Maybe this could be the start of a new nerdy day like โTalk Like A Pirateโ day – โTalk in Jumblesโ day. Try it out at your next puzzle making session, David.
Angela, I peeked at the chefโs window also, hoping to see the hanging Lazy Susan with the orders clipped to it, but Iโll settle for the heat lamps. And โCHEERSโ to your NORM reference!
I thought โThe Pun Also Risesโ was a very EARNEST slogan, and very funny.
I also loved the fact that in their newspaper, Jeff finally got to see his name first, above Davidโs. โItโs good to be theโ artist!
Have a great day, all! I hope Bettyโs getting an overdose of fall colors in upstate NY.

G…That MODEM thing? Not so much…My Littles know about Modems, all of them..and today I think most people are savvy enough to know the basics…So I think I’ll call you on a TECHnicality there..๐ And you’re YOLKing about not knowing Jumble on Twitter, aren’t you? Your comment about “Talk Like a Pirate”? On Twitter the phrase “Do You Speak Jumblese” is a catch phrase..TRIED and True…and there’s always quotes given to be unSCRAMBLED! We have to talk!!’ ๐๐ Good pick-up on Norm..๐๐ป๐๐ป I knew you’d CHEER for that one! But the name ORDER? ๐ท! And I could swear..Didn’t we SEA “The Pun Also Rises” before?
