CARTOON ANSWER:  AFTER BOWLING A 300 GAME, PEOPLE WANTED THE BOWLER  TO – – –

TOI   EER   SPK   SA  =  STRIKE A POSE

Good Morning, Everyone!                 🎳 STRIKE IT RICH! 🎳

🎶 I like to go BOWLING with my friend Bert, with my BOWLING BALL and my BOWLING SHIRT...I like to roll the BALL down the LANE…On a good day, I throw a few STRIKES…Making some SPARES after what I like…BOWLING is my kind of game…I ain’t for the one, and two, and three and four, five pins down the LANE…With the boom and the bang, they hit the floor…And i throw the BALL again…I like to go BOWLING with my friend Bert, with my BOWLING BALL and my BOWLING SHIRT…BOWLING is my kind of game…🎶 “The Bowling Song” – Asleep At The Wheel  2001

🎳 To Bowl a perfect 300, one needs to have the skill…
It’s not something that comes along because you have the will.
It can bring on the FEVER, a Bowler gets intense…
You won’t find a true Bowler hanging out near “Shoes for Rent”…
There’s teams that have the strangest names, like SPOOKY and TOXIN,
Or “Pin Pals” like our players here…some give you quite a grin.
Where “No Man Is An ISLAND“, and ones’ teammates form a bond…
The group gets out and tries their best once Bowling Shirts are donned.
But an individual Bowler plays his best because he knows…
That he wants to be the one who gets to smile and STRIKE A POSE! 🎳

While checking to see if any of our words were new, I noticed that we’ve had other BOWLING themed puzzles in the not too distant past. In both April and June, we also found ourselves trying to PIN down a puzzle that dealt with BOWLING. Interesting fact I thought…And with all our words today being Sweet Repeats, I found it hard to PIN DOWN the most difficult…So, I’m going to leave that to you Folks..after all, this is a TEAM effort! Moving on to our cartoon FRAME, today we find ourselves at a BOWLING ALLEY, where 5 members of the PIN PALS are celebrating a PERFECT GAME having been thrown. With the 300 shown illuminated on the Scoreboard in the BACKground, we see that there’s 3 different Cell Phones looking to capture this momentous occasion. Our King PIN, BOB, is smiling broadly as he POSES. And he seems to FOLLOW THROUGH as he’s asked by the only other male BOWLER to hold his BALL HIGHER, so as to get it into the shot. Since a PERFECT GAME consists of 12 STRIKES, and it’s said that the odds of the AVERAGE male BOWLING one are about 11,500 to 1, we can see where this is no minor accomplishment….And explains why the PIN PALS are asking BOB to…STRIKE A POSE! Good one, David! LANE and Simple!

Ok, eye candy…The pickins’ today are kind of sparse…A lot of grins, and the SHIRTS are cute, with their PINS, …But there are the two other names embroidered on the women’s shirts…LAVERNE has her arm around BOB, and SHIRLEY’S the one looking for the Group Photo. Great detail and cute little Trivia reference, Jeff…You’re a regular BIG SHOTZ! So, There you have it, Folks…Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And remember…Don’t settle for just being AVERAGE in life, and SPARE yourself those SPLIT decisions…Instead, get out there, and STRIKE ’em dead! 🎳🙋🏻

  1. Good morning. Nice work Angela you spared no puns and if I get a chance I’ll try to hear your song choice. Right now I’m in the dark. The words were simple this whole week. The cartoon answer slowed me down some but I finally realized that there was a big hint in the two taking the picture. Strike A Pose came into view. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Thanks for the Shout Out. I “Spared” no puns, huh? 👏🏻 Good one! The song isn’t anything mainstream..Just something I picked up because the words fit…I agree, it has been a very easy week..And as for the cartoon, I always feel it gives the answer to us on a silver platter. Jeff’s drawings afford us a lot of hints, and 90% of the time, the answer will be a familiar phrase…How’re you feeling with the meds, Paul? I hope you’re doing well. Have a good one, Bud. 🎳🙋🏻

  2. It was SPOOKY to realise that a TOXIN on the popular ISLAND caused a high FEVER and ghostly hallucinations.
No problem with the clue words on the solution. Surprisingly simple Saturday solution, sigh….
Your song Angela? Could you have found a tune with more bowling references??? Terrific.
Like your poem a lot—especially the “No man is an Island” reference—so appropriate for bowling teams. A single bowler at an alley? Can’t imagine it.
Thanks for the details you found in the cartoon—I did not see Laverne and Shirley but did see “Pin Pals” Clever, clever, clever.
Have a great Saturday everyone—hope it is as meteorlogically magnificent by you as it is here.

    • Good Morning, Earl. Speaking of appropriate,..Your sentence is so on point. Outbreaks of Legionnaires disease, Noah Syndergaard contracting Coxsackie…The germs out there today are “toxins” indeed. It’s something that worries me greatly, I felt the same way about today’s words and solution…Which is why I just threw it out there to the readers re: a stumper, if any. .And as I told Paul, I always take my “cue” from Jeff…and the rest is all gravy…Thanks for the Shout Outs…I was involved in a wicked game of “Words With Friends” with a friend in Indiana very early this morning, so I didn’t even wait for a song to hit me, I just Googled “Bowling Lyrics”,, and there it was, and yes, appropriate as could be! ..As for the “No man is an ISLAND? It just happens to be a favorite saying of mine…And that also seemed apropos today! I had a lot to work with! LOL…Jeff’s Laverne and Shirley? That really gave me a giggle…Very clever, indeed! Which is why I gave him the “BIG SHOTZ” Shout Out, in return. A little trivia for you…Do you remember what that was? Our weather’s calmed down since last night…I don’t know about you up there, but Staten Island was clobbered from about 5 last night until about 2-3 this morning…Violent thunderstorms with buckets of rain and hail..Downed trees, downed power lines, flooding, fires breaking out all over…It was quite a show…Mother Nature, huh? Hoping you enjoy your magnificent day. Earl….Stay well..🎳🙋🏻
PS: A Special Shout Out to your “S”uperb Alliterative offering..👏🏻👏🏻 I didn’t skip over it, I simply saw your other words, and segued towards the more serious matter, sickness..But I wasn’t swayed, and surely enjoyed every single syllable! 😉 🙋🏻

  3. Morning, all –
I used the obvious A in the answer to get island and saw pose before strike. Funny about Laverne and Shirley, Angela, which I totally missed. The weather here wasn’t too bad last night.
Steve, Betty and others in California – I hope that your state gets relief from the terrible fires soon and that you aren’t badly affected.

    • Hi Caroline…Good Morning. Glad to hear you were SPAREd that horrible weather last night. I had two other people tell me that they saw Pose first..the rest all seem to have looked for the Bowling related word, so they want with Strike. Yes, the Laverne and Shirley made me giggle…Let you in on a little secret…I had an early copy of the puzzle from a newspaper..and I could have put the post up right after midnight…but seeing the faint squiggly lines on each of the woman’s shirts,, I just knew Jeff left me some eye candy! ROTFL..So I waited for the Post Star to on-line publish. When I looked at 4 this morning, and enlarged the cartoon…there it was..LAVERNE! And sure enough…SHIRLEY! I was surprised to find BOB, and had to do some editing…but then maybe Jeff never cared for Lenny or Squiggy! LOL..But it was the cutest surprise, and I was so glad I went with my instincts and waited…Jeff’s a trip! I’m with you on the hope for California..it’s devastating to witness…On the news this morning, they spoke with a woman who said she just closed on her home y’day at 4 PM, and here this morning it was burnt to the ground…My God, how heartbreaking..💔 I just keep praying…Hope you have a good one, Caroline…Take care….🙏🏻🙋🏻

  4. Antiquity
The earliest known forms of bowling date back to ancient Egypt. Remnants of balls used at the time were found among artifacts in ancient Egypt going back to the Egyptian protodynastic period in 3200 BC [7] Balls were made using the husks of grains, covered in material such as leather, and bound with string. Other balls made of porcelain have also been found, indicating that these were rolled along the ground rather than thrown due to their size and weight. Some of these resemble the modern day jack used in target bowl games. Bowling games of different forms are also noted by Herodotus as an invention of the Lydians in Asia Minor.

  5. Easy time of it this morning. We used to have many bowling alleys in S.F. I remember so many people belonged to bowling leagues. I think only one or two facilities remain. Don’t know why. Thanks for your kind thoughts Caroline & Angela. Our poor state is burning at both ends. Yosemite Nat’l. Park is going to be closed for another week and the fire in Redding in Northern California is just an inferno. They’ve called out the National Guard and are using prisoners to fight the blazes since the firefighters are stretched so thin. My cousins who lost their home in Santa Rosa last year are just about to start rebuilding. They’re building a concrete home. Said it will be waterproof, fireproof, earthquake proof and bullet proof. Told them I’m going to move in with them once it’s complete. But then again, life is not safe is it.

    • Good Morning, Betty. We still have Bowling Alleys here, and I go once in a while. One of my “crew” is on a league and he plays every Friday night…It’s is fun, and it’s good cardio also…How my heart goes out to all my West Coast Neighbors. And knowing you and Steve through here, makes me feel the hurt so much more. I heard on the news this morning about the firefighters being so exhausted and so outnumbered by the damn infernos, and second stringers being called in…It’s all totally mind boggling. And I remember you telling us of your cousins last year. But may I ask? When you say a concrete house? What did they live in before? We all live in brick houses here. I’ve never even given it a second thought…I can’t imagine losing everything and starting from scratch..These poor people…It makes you stop and question your faith, at the time when you need your faith more than ever..It’s a terrible situation, all around…I find it all so hard to watch, I can’t imagine what it’s like for you being there in the midst of it. If you know of a relief effort in your community that you deem to be trustworthy, please let me know. I’d be more than happy to contribute. And I think as you do a lot of the time…What happened to life as we knew it? It’s a little scary…Please know that you and yours are in my thoughts and prayers..I wish I knew the right words to say…Be well, Bella. ❤️🙋🏻

      • Hello again, Angela. Our homes here are mostly all wood perhaps with some stucco on the front depending on the design. Bricks are a no no in earthquake country. Apparently they collapse like a house of cards in a shaker – that is the unreinforced masonry type. The newer buildings going up mostly have huge steel beams which are anchored into bedrock. One of the homes built in my neighborhood after the 1989 earthquake apparently has a floating foundation? Supposed to rock and roll with the seismic activity. Of course both in 1906 & 1989, most of the destruction was caused by the fire afterwards. We now have 2 fire boats the Phoenix and the Guardian which can pump water from the bay. I would have lost my home in 1989 were in not for the Phoenix. S.F. Is nowhere near the current fires but my heart goes out to those in the areas. Let’s just hope they can get them contained.

      • Hi Betty. Wow…I never considered the earthquake element in regards to housing….And it’s something I never knew. Sometimes I’m a little taken aback by how much there is out there that I don’t know…Seismic activity is something I never think about living in NY, whereas I’m sure it’s something Californians are constantly aware of…The idea of the steel beams makes a lot of sense, and of course architecture like everything else, has come so much farther as the years have gone by…I’m going to read up on the Fireboats, too. I do remember now, your mentioning your brush with disaster back in ”89. I’m with you Betty…I pray they get them contained sooner than later…Thanks for this information, and I love your way with words..Be well…🙋🏻

  6. I have a new app out this weekend called WORD SEARCH WORLD TRAVELER. I was wondering of you wanted to let your readers know about the app. We’re sort of calling this weekend WORD SEARCH WORLD TRAVELER WEEKEND! We’re pushing hard to get the word out today and tomorrow hoping that we make some sort of App Store list like “Hot” or “Trending.” It’s a long shot, but you never know. I basically take the money I make from apps and donate it to the David L. Hoyt Education Foundation, so I’m trying hard to get the word out about WSWT.

I’ve copied and pasted some info below about the app.

WORD SEARCH WORLD TRAVELER is free to download and comes with 500 hand-crafted word search puzzles with more on the way! Plus there’s an awesome daily game.

For more information and links to the app stores, check out:

I totally understand if you can’t help with this. Just letting you know about this in case it was something you wanted to let your fans know about.

    THANKS!

  7. Hi, all! What a ball it was to solve a happy little bowling Jumble puzzle on a Saturday. My solve was 3 instant words, then solving the cartoon answer quickly after seeing the “K” circled in SPOOKY, and last using the “A” and “S” to solve ISLAND, which I think would have taken me a long time without the letters.

Now off to Fry’s with Jerry for a couple of grocery items. Hope you have a day so happy it just bowls you over with joy.

  8. Hi all – The only thing to take a second glance was ISLAND.

I’m glad I looked online or I would have missed the names Laverne and Shirley on the shirts — Shirley you jest! I also like the name “Pin Pals” because it would serve equally well for the bowling league and the pinball league that follows after the game. I was in a league when I was quite young, but I also bowled many, many times by myself, so I don’t have to try hard to imagine a single bowler, Earl. (And yes, I had my own shoes, but not my own bowling balls).

Angela, given your song and “No man..” — Since I remember Asleep at the Wheel as a Bay Area band at the start of their career, I’ll answer back with the Jefferson Airplane’s “A Small Package of Value Will Come to You Shortly”:
    🎵”No man is an ISLAND! (He’s a peninsula!)”🎵
Not a great song…not actually a song at all, but appropriate here.

The fires are east and north of here, so we’re safe, but the pictures are scary.
    Have a great Saturday, everyone.

    • Hey, G. I have the ball, and the shoes…but I think I’ve mentioned before that the shoes are so..so…Well, just look at them! 😂 And I’ve bowled by myself too…while waiting for my “other” to arrive…And a few of the guys from the league do the same once in awhile too, for practice. Still, Earl’s right, nothing beats being on a League and the “No Man, etc”…But, a peninsula? G..You know I love you, Bro…BUT Jeff Airplane is no John Donne! (Sound familiar)? 😉 I have to disagree with you on this one…You shouldn’t mess with PERFECTion! And I know you’re not near the fires, but I worry about you just the same…Have a good one, G…Oh wait. One last question…What PINball League? 😉🎳🙋🏻

  12. Angela…We figured out what was wrong with the WORD SEARCH WORLD TRAVELER app showing “Not Available in the U.S.”. It was a typo in a web address (or something like that) within the app. Thank for letting us know about that! Much appreciate. We just submitted an update to Apple to fix that. It should be live tomorrow. In the meantime, if you want to help us out by writing a review, rating, etc., you can still do that by going into the App Store directly and then going to the app. It works that way for now. Again THANK YOU for taking the time to help us get the word out. We really appreciate it. I’m excited to hear what your 40 cousins think about it.
