HE SAID  – – –   SO   ME   H   ARI  =  I “SHORE” AM

Good Morning, Everyone!            ☠ SHORE….LEAVE?

🎶 Any minute now, my SHIP is coming in…I’ll keep checking the HORIZON
I’ll stand on the BOW, feel the WAVES come crashing, come crashing down down down, on me..And you say, be still my love, open up your heart…let the light shine in…But don’t you understand…I already have a plan… I’m waiting for my real life to begin…🎶 “Waiting For My Real Life To Begin”- Colin Hay 1994

☠ Piracy upon the seas, is what we’re seeing here,
A ship and men all full of GRIME with ratty looking beards…
Ubiquitous the HOLLOW leg we cannot tell for sure,
The captains’ legs are hidden, but it’s usually de rigueur…                                               Are they back from a SAFARI, are they carrying hides and skins?
Have they taken every LASSO and tied up kit and kin?
Is there Mutiny on the Bounty…are we seeing a Flim Flam?
Do you think I’m glad to finish this? You can bet that I “SHORE”AM!

After a week of having a considerably easy go of it, with the exception of y’days solution THOROUGHLY stumping a few; and seeing 6 new words, (Baboon wasn’t), we come to Saturday, which can SAIL either way. Our words are masterfully anagrammed today, but still easily solved..Why? CORSAIR Sweet Repeats, that’s why! And our answer is for SHORE a gift, despite the”Quotation Trepidation” it causes some readers. So let’s SAIL over to our cartoon, and see what hints we can acCREW! Finding ourselves out on the HIGH SEAS, we’re aboard a PIRATE SHIP that’s coming within sight of LAND. We know this, because up atop the CROW’S NEST, a MATE is yelling...”LAND HO“. The Captain, one hand on the wheel, is HOOKED up in a conversation with a barefoot SHIP MATE, who’s seen saying that the Captain must be happy for SHORE to see LAND. Behind them, we see two more MATES, who seem ready for an ARRRgument. Wielding a knife and a CUTLASS, they seem ready to attack. To CUT MORE, perhaps? Do you think there may be a MUTINY aRRRising? Right before our very AYES? WOODEN that be something? And could that be the TREASON that the Captain is saying…”I “SHORE” AM”? Well, SHIVER ME TIMBERS, we got our solve! Good job, David! ARRREN’T you the clever one!

Ok, AYE candy? I like the Captain’s HOOK, but that’s not it..Something seems aMISS, and yet I can’t put my FINGER on it…And there’s that FIRST MATE not DECKed out with socks, but that’s BAREly it either…So, I’m going to go with the oddest thing I SEA…There’s a member of the CREW standing behind the two MENacing Mates, who’s looking up at the CROW’S NEST, and yelling..”WAIT“! Wait for what? What most of us wait for…Our SHIP to come in?? I don’t know…I’m just drawing a PLANK…So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And remember…When at SEA, always carry a bar of SOAP…You know, just in case you need to WASH ASHORE!☠🙋🏻

  1. It was a HOLLOW victory for the SAFARI guide when he was able to LASSO the topi but end the day befouled with dirt and GRIME.
The usual web site I use had yesterday’s puzzle again today????? I went to the Seattle Times site and had problems seeing the letter layout for the solution. Not sure what’s going on here. Perhaps they want me to buy a newspaper??
At any rate, finally got all the glitches out of the way and came up with “I shore am” Another pun-induced groan, which I was in no mood for today.
Angela, your song is one I have never heard, but will do some research later.
Your poem was interesting this morning–have my doubts about pirates going on safari but I’ll wink wink at that—literary license and all?
Hopefully, the day will be smoother sailing after this Jumble juxtaposition.

    • Good Morning, Earl. No smooth SAILING for you today, huh? I’m sorry to hear it. On-line sites can always get iffy, but once again, I’ll say, nothing beats the Post Star. I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem. HATS 😉 off to your sentence! 👏🏻 Imaginative as always. SAFARI the poem goes? 😉 Earl…How else was I going to get that word in?😂 KNOT exactly an easy OUTING! And I’ll make you laugh…Doing a really quick search, because it was 2:45 AM, and I wanted to get some sleep? I Googled Pirate and Safari…And look what I found…”Pirates, we all want to go on an African safari—it’s one of the top bucket list goals for a reason”! A virtual TREASURE! LOL…So poetic license not withstanding…I brought it on home! And I SHORE AM glad that I did! 😉 Here’s to hoping that the day does bring you smoother SAILING..🍷🙋🏻

      • Angela— not at home so I cannot check but I am almost sure it was the Post Star site that did not have today’s Jumble.
You did give me a giggle with your Google get, thanks.

        • Hey Earl..Unless you looked before 3:10 this morning, it can’t be the Poat Star. I’m looking at it as we speak, and it’s the correct one for today. The Google Get Got you to smile? 😉 I’m glad..So we can say the day’s looking better? Enjoy! 🙋🏻

  2. SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO MIKE McCORMICK: It’s Ringo Starr’s Birthday! I can’t “do” the Beatles anymore without thinking of you now…You may be one of the “truest” Beatles fans I know. Hoping you 🎶Don’t Pass Me By🎶 today…. To You and Ringo! 🍷Cheers! 🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. Thank you queen of puns. Good choice for the song and must admit I never heard him or the song before. Earl followed you up with another good sentence. My thinking was that maybe sighting land saved the captain from being overthrown too. It looked like they were ready for a fight. Today’s jumble was fun with Safari being the hardest word to get. The other three words took less time combined than that. Even though the hated quotation was starring me in the face, because it was so short I gave it a try. I came up roses and even though the answer was cute you’ll never get me to enjoy quotation trepidation. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Sunshine! See I told you…You can’t keep throwing in the towel so easily…Tiny little quotation marks! They’re harmless! Man up, Brooklyn! 😂 I’ll get you to like them yet…you’ll see…Thanks for the Shout Out, and Hay isn’t that well known, but I like him. Perfect day for Bocce, Bud…Good luck out there..🙋🏻

  4. Angela:
Thanks for remembering me! We’ll see if the Jumble guys do anything for Ringo’s birthday like they did for Paul a few weeks ago.

    • Remember you? Why wouldn’t I? It’s only been like 2-3 weeks! 😂😂! Of course I remember you. A fellow Beatles aficionado? How could I not? And I meant to Shout Out to you last week or so, because those other Beatles Jumble puzzles you said you didn’t remember? You posted on them…At least on one of them, anyway. I’d have to double check the rest…I don’t remember EVERYTHING! 😉 So, Mike…Reason for my song choice? I don’t know if you’re familiar with Colin Hay, today’s artist, but he’s coincidently touring with Ringo! He’s part of Ringo’s “ALL-STARR” Band! You just can’t make this stuff up, Mike! 😉 So, if you get a chance read up on him. He’s the former lead vocalist for Men at Work….Hope you’re having a good one! Rock on! 🎶🙋🏻

PS: I don’t think we’ll see a Ringo Shout Out from the Jumble. I somehow get the feeling that they’re more Paul McCartney fans, than Beatles fans per se. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! 😉 🙋🏻

      • Angela:
I certainly remember the Beatles puzzle from June of last year, the one in the barber shop, and I remember posting that Jumble might have given the shout-out since it was within days of Paul’s birthday. So last month, when there was a Beatles puzzle around the same time, I thought “Wait a minute–there’s a pattern here.” I vaguely remember the one you mentioned in the vintage record shop that said something about the Butcher Block album . I didn’t think of it as a Beatles puzzle since it didn’t depict them. The other one you mentioned where Richard Starkey decided to change his name, I don’t remember at all.

I’m not familiar with Colin Hay, but I certainly remember Men at Work. I’ve seen Ringo’s All-Starr Band concerts on AXS TV–they’ve got some good people.

Jeff at least should be a Ringo fan ‘cus he’s the easiest to draw!

        • Ok, Mike. I’m going to see if I can untangle the tangled web I weaved! Bear with me…First let’s get rid of the puzzle where RINGO changed his name. I wasn’t part of this group then, and you didn’t post anything. But it did happen! 😉 It was early 2017. Ok…now..Into the web! Yes, last June is when you commented, regarding the proximity to Paul’s birthday, and the placement of the Beatles in the Barber Shop puzzle. You mentioned 2 weeks ago that again the puzzle was near Paul’s Birthday, and you went on to add that maybe there’d be a puzzle around this time for Ringo’s birthday also. The other two puzzles you’re blurring a little. The one in the vintage record shop wasn’t with the Butcher Block album. That album was discussed in the puzzle featuring Jeff. You’re right in saying that that one didn’t depict the Beatles. Lastly, the vintage record shop. It was mid 60’s. It featured a young couple looking through bins of vinyl. And they’re talking about what the Beatles will do next..Jeff drew the album covers of both RUBBER SOUL and MEET THE BEATLES. The likenesses are so meticulous and detailed, it’s uncanny. IMO some of the best work he’s ever done. I looked for the cartoon itself in the reams of puzzles I’ve saved, but of course I’m not finding it…Par for the course. And as for Jeff being a Ringo fan? You gave me a giggle! Is it because of his outstanding characteristic, perhaps? LOL..Anyway, have I managed to confuse the hell out of you? Not yet?..It’s still early…There’s time..! 😂 I just hope I don’t have you shaking your head too badly. I’ve been sued for whiplash in the past! 😂 Ok..Colin Hay. If you’ve seen the All-Starr Band, there’s a good chance you’ve see him. If I’m not mistaken, he’s been playing with Ringo for about 10 years…And so…That’s a wrap…🎶It took me years to write…will you take a look?🎶
          Ciao, Mike! 🎶🙋🏻

          • Angela:
Thanks for all the info. I’ve gone to previous months on this web site to read the descriptions for the 8/26/17 Butcher Block puzzle and the 2/28/18 young couple puzzle. It’s a shame there’s no place on the web that has the actual cartoons from old puzzles. I loved the quote from Paperback Writer, though I may be the only person that got it!

            • You’re very welcome! I think that all the time too. I wish there was an archive of some sort for the drawings. Perhaps there is and we’re not aware. Maybe Jeff might tell us. Touche with the 🎶Writer🎶👏🏻👏🏻 Giggle! And it’s ok…It was only meant for you anyway! Hope you’re having a great night, Mike! Rock on! 🎶🙋🏻

              • Dear Sir and Madam, I cannot hold my tongue! I resemble that remark! 😂😂
It’s a dirty story of a dirty man, based on a novel by a man named Lear… 🙋🏻‍♂️

              • ROTFL…OOC!! I knew.. I JUST KNEW!!! .😂😂 .I’m lying here just waiting..thinking…”What’s taking him so long? Napping, perhaps”? And if I fall out of this hammock, I swear Steve…It’s on you! ..And you forgot…🎶It could make a million for ME overnight🎶 ..You didn’t disappoint…I’ll give you that..(and now Lou’s looking at me like I’ve lost my mind! Poor guy…Shaking his head again)! 😂😂😂 🙋🏻

              • 😂😂 Angela, I couldn’t resist! 😂 Mike, I hope you know I’m just kidding you, but I’ve been trading Beatles jokes and lines with Angela for a long time. It’s nice to know there’s at least one other die-hard fan lurking around here, probably many. It’s a great place to “Come Together, Right Now!” 🙋🏻‍♂️

              • Yea, Yea,Yea., Yea…Don’t try sugar coating it…you’ve been chomping at the bit ever since I said…”research”! 😂😂 I had you at..🎶Hello…(goodbye)! 🎶 😂 I’m dying here, really. I had to get out of the hammock, because I went from this to Madden..and I can’t even catch my breath! Lou said..”WT? You’re gonna end up pulling something…Get out of the hammock”! 😂😂 I really don’t know when I laughed so hard…and I’m only half way through…EAT EAT EAT!’ Ok, No mas…Let me regroup!! I owe ya, Grasshopper! 😂😂 🙋🏻

              • When Madden says about soccer defense, “They get down to, what, the 20 Yard line?…” I totally lost it. 😂 Ok, enough for now. 🙋🏻‍♂️

  5. Really struggled with Safari this morning. Got all the other words and the cartoon answer before I managed to figure that one out. Clever pun today though and I did enjoy the challenge. Hope all of you have a Happy Saturday.

    • Hi Betty. Good Morning. I have to be honest, I SAILED thru the words, but looking at them, the anagram of SAFARI is the most off the wall. I think the combination of FR tends to make the mind automatically look for a different root to build from. Does that make sense? Hard to tell with me! 😉 But I do agree, the pun was very clever, and somehow a little too cute for the puzzles theme, IMO! Hope you’re enjoying your day! Ciao! 🙋🏻

  6. Like Paul and Betty, I had the most trouble with SAFARI, which I had to back into. I love Dylan’s song, “When the Ship Comes In.”

    • Hi Caroline. It looks like SAFARI is definitely turning the TIDE today! As I told Betty, I didn’t see it, and only one of my early morning “Pen Pals” voiced any concern with it. I too like Dylan’s 🎶Ship🎶, as I do most of his work. But I was looking for something to kind of express what seemed to me the Captains feeling of being saved from a fate worse than death! 😉 I really didn’t know for SHORE how to read the puzzle this morning. I even asked a friend, and he was just as much AT SEA as I. And as I wrote in the post, why is that pirate yelling, “Wait”? Still has me stymied! And most of all, as I told Mike, with it being Ringo Start’s B’day, I kind of got excited when I realized the connection between he and the artist I went with. Little things! LOL..Hope you’re having a great day, Caroline! The weather is beautiful, isn’t it? 🙋🏻

      • Angela, I didn’t know your song choice but I like it. As for “wait,” I wasn’t sure what it meant either, but others seem to have a good interpretation. Maybe Jeff will enlighten us. The weather is really nice up here, too, but I wish I’d see more bees and butterflies.

        • Hi Caroline. I’m glad you enjoyed it. He has a nice mellow voice. As for the “Wait”..I agree, a mutinous murder was in the minds of the marauders! 😉 ..My confusion lies (And God knows there’s plenty of that)! 😂 in why he’s telling the guy in the Crow’s Nest to wait. His eyes are clearly shown looking upward, and he’s pointing upward. I mean, we can’t stop the guy from seeing what he’s seeing, can we? So is it “Wait, don’t announce it…Give us enough time to kill him”? That doesn’t seem kosher. And if he’s intending the comment to be made to the mutineers,..”Wait, don’t kill him, we’re approaching land”…then why isn’t he looking or gesturing towards them? Can you see my conundrum? ROTFL! 😂😂 This is all just too funny! I should invest this much time and energy into the stacks of papers I’ve got piled up on each of my 3 desks! 😂 Not to mention the encroachment beginning to transpire on my dining room table! I’m a menace! I just don’t know..I’m still a tad AT SEA about it all! As to the weather? Glorious is putting it mildly…And give it some time..The bees and butterflies will come! Enjoy the day, Caroline! 🐝🐝🙋🏻

      • Yeah, I was aware of him pointing up and the ambiguity. Wonderful drawing.

  7. DONE, finally! LASSO was the hardest word for me. The answer took some work with my scrabble tiles because I forgot to include AM in the list I made of 2-letter words. I also did not anticipate an answer as corny as SHORE.

On July 3, I commented that the answer, ROYAL WETTING, was one of my all time favorite answer-puns. I think that today’s is what Mike, in fun years ago, used to call a “stinky” pun.

    Enjoy your day, all!

    • Hi Lelia. The phrase “stinky pun” has been around for many, many years. Supposedly, the bigger the groan, the “more the stink”! A lot of people consider puns to lack humor, hence “the stink” began…But I always liked what the late Oscar Levant said many years ago.. “A pun is the lowest form of humor…when you don’t think of it first”! 😂 This whole week has been one pun better than the other. David done good! Hope you’re having a great day! Enjoy! 🙋🏻

  8. Hi all – The double letter trick shaved a lot of time off getting LASSO. It didn’t help with SAFARI, so I had to resort to the stare-at-it-for-awhile trick.
As much as I love the quoted pun answers, this one defeated me. I could only see “I” and “SO” as the first and last words, which only left HAREM. That might have made him happy, but it didn’t help me get anywhere.
I agree with the others, the ‘Wait!” means “Don’t slaughter the captain after all, I spotted land.”

Don’t know your song Angela, but the words remind me of 🎵”And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run – you missed the starting gun”🎵

So, today’s date, Love, “Seven and Seven Is.”. Do you feel lucky?

Fair warning that I’m going to ramble on a bit about the “song from the ceiling” at the market this morning, so to you who wisely stop reading here, I’ll just wish you a wonderful and hopefully cooler Saturday.

..So, ok, we alone now? All, what, 3 of us? 😂
A bit hit of 80’s nostalgia, “Only the Lonely” by The Motels:
Not the one by Roy Orbison; that would be 60’s nostalgia, and definitely worthy of a listen in its own right.
I actually still have that Motels single on Laserdisk, and it’s always seemed to me that it would be a good choice to show someone if you wanted to convey what a perfectly typical 80’s MTV music video was like – you know, when Music Television actually still played music. Good group, good song, good production values. Nothing approaching the groundbreaking stuff like David Bowie’s “Ashes to Ashes”, Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime”, or Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” – just a nice pleasant way to spend 3 or 4 minutes.

    • Hey G…I thought you might know Hay. You have to check out the song and his style though, and you’ll see he’s nothing like Floyd, or 🎶Time🎶. Not taking anything from either, mind you, just not akin.. 🎶Seven and Seven Is🎶 Strangely enough, may be one of the few tunes I could never get into. A man’s song, do you think? And you know what’s funny? It’s been covered like what? A gazillion times? And I still could never could get on board. Funny too? To me, 7 and 7 makes me think of a drink my parents shared together after my Father would get home from work on hot summer nights..Those pesky memories again, huh? 😥 As for 🎶Only the Lonely🎶 in 80’s life? Not how I’d define the 80’s but a good rep in its own right. And MTV? Yep, 🎶 Do You Remember…🎶 😔 Ah, G…Should we say it? Is now the time?😉 Here’s 🍷to the good old days? 😉 Here’s 🍷 to the 80’s….and having a good one..🎶🙋🏻

      • To me, the “good old days” means late 50’s through mid 70’s. The 80’s seem positively modern! 😂 In fact, I have a videotape of a rock show on 12/31/79 featuring Nick Gilder performing “Into the 80’s” (I checked – the song’s on YouTube, of course.) 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Yikes! The 50’s and 60’s and a lot of the 70’s for me are out there with the 40’s! Isn’t it all “the good old days”? 😉 And Grasshopper..You of all people calling the 80’s “positively modern”? After you’ve told us about your wife and the ice cream cone? More than once? Do I detect a forked tongue rearing its ugly frenulum?? 😂😂! J’accuse! 😂🙋🏻
