Jumble Answers for 05/02/2018

Happy Wednesday, Jumble players! I didn’t have a chance to do the Jumble while I was away on vacation so I have an extra week’s worth of puzzles to do later on today. I couldn’t help but peek at a few of the cartoons and it looks like I’m in for a real treat! I’ll keep it brief this morning so I can get back up to speed with all that I’ve missed.

The first three clue words in today’s game were immediately visible. What caught my attention was that they all had a “Y” in the layout. If you’re a new visitor and had trouble with any of those Jumbles, my “Y trick” might have helped you out. If you see a “Y” in the puzzle, place it at the end of the word and work through the rest of the letters for the solution. It worked on two of the three words today so it doesn’t hurt to keep repeating that tip. WEASEL took a few extra seconds before it came into view so it’s my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. The two E’s followed by the S had me looking for words beginning with SE but nothing came to mind. As soon as I tried the W, the rest of the word just fell into place.

Today’s cartoon had a lot of dialogue in the middle of the panel so I couldn’t help but read it first. We discover that a small child doesn’t want to go to bed and he keeps asking questions to delay the inevitable. Dad looks thoroughly perturbed with his arms crossed at his chest while mom offers up a teddy bear to help lull her little one to sleep. Looking at all of the toys spread out on the floor shows us that the little guy was having too much fun and sleep won’t be coming anytime soon. On the floor we see a jump rope, a couple of socks, a shirt, a toy car and a frisbee. My favorite detail of this cartoon was the contrast in the eyes between mother and son. Her eyelids are almost completely closed while his are wide open and ready to keep the good times rolling!

The final solve was on the easier side with only 7 letters to work with. The YGU in the middle of the anagram allowed me to see GUY immediately leaving WHYS to be found shortly thereafter. It may not have been much of a challenge, but it made for a very satisfying finish. Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  2. 🎶 Tell me WHY you cried, and WHY you lied to me…Tell me WHY you cried, and WHY you lied to me…If there’s something I have said or done, tell me what and I’ll apologize…If you don’t, I really can’t go on, holding back these tears in my eyes…Tell me WHY you cried, and WHY you lied to me…Tell me WHY you cried, and WHY you lied to me…🎶

Good Morning, Everyone! 💤 WHY? Because I Said So…That’s WHY! 💤

    💤🐻 Who out there hasn’t been here…the kids who just won’t sleep…
The back and forth, ad nauseam where patience’s hard to keep?
You try not to get GRUMPY, but frustration and fatigue…
Can make that..”HONEY, go to sleep” turn into a blitzkrieg!
You YIELD to questions one and two, by three you’ve had enough…
You know that you just need to get to that place where you’re tough.
But WEASEL out they always do… the clock just keeps on ticking
And you stand there exhausted, while your brain these kids keep picking.
But comes the time you reach that point where nothing’s gonna fly…
And lights go out, no matter who or what for this “WHYS” GUY! 🐻💤

Today’s words are nothing new, but maybe WEASEL caused a bit of squirming? A very tiny tic. But then again, maybe not! Too LATE to SLEEP ON IT now, so…Let’s get past it, and slither over to our cartoon. Set inside a bedroom, today Jeff has us trying to get a young boy to fall asleep. And most of us know what that’s like…Gives all new meaning to patience, am I right? TERSE or COERCE? WHY or WHY NOT? It’s definitely not easy! We see the parents trying their best to fight that old ennui, while Junior here is more like fighting you and he! The little SMART ALECK! Jeff has succeeded in depicting the fatigue and growing frustration they’re experiencing. It’s clearly etched into their faces. And it seems that no matter what they’re saying, this kid just won’t capituLATE…And it’s way too LATE for all this…So, with our dialogue telling us that Junior’s still full of questions…And our question asking what he was…We have…He was a “WHY’S GUY! Well, lay me down and turn out the lights! A great pun! You don’t need to be SAGE to get this one, do you? And we can put this Baby to BED! Good one, David! Kudos! Ok, eye candy. There’s Dad’s mustache and soul patch, but it just isn’t growing on me…We see a jump rope, a red remote controlled car, and a gold frisbee. Sticking out from under the bed we see Junior’s green T-shirt and gray socks…We got a regular FLOOR show this morning! But I’m not PICKING UP on any of it…Let’s just go with the Teddy Bear Mom’s holding…Little HONEY bear! UnBEARably cute! So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And to all those out there who say that SLEEPING comes so naturally to them that they can do it with their EYES CLOSED? Well, how I envy you! Me? I get insomnia, and then writer’s block…Thank God there’s NIGHT QUILL! 💤🐻

  3. Hi, Mike! WELCOME HOME! Great to have you back safe and sound but happy that you got to go have fun!

When you saw your first robin of spring and thought of me, I told Jerry to help me keep an eye out for something new. We hit the jackpot Saturday seeing two large white lizards, 3 ground squirrels, and a very large white rabbit with black markings eating with our little wild brown bunnies.

The one we’ve really been waiting for happened Sunday when out from the bushes came a mom & dad quail with 5 adorable brand new babies that couldn’t have been more than 2 days old, looking like little cotton balls with feet. It was a precious sight, and we thought of you!!!!!

    • Thanks so much, Lelia! It was a fun trip that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We went to Florida again and the weather was absolutely amazing. It’s 85 here in NH so it looks like I brought some if it back with me.

You have so much wildlife in your area! Lizards, rabbits, and ground squirrels are all very interesting but I enjoyed hearing about the baby quails the most. I can just picture their little bodies moseying along behind their parents.

I haven’t read all of the comments from last week but I saw one that said you took an antibiotic and had to stay in bed for a few days. I hope it worked and that you’re feeling much better.

I wish you and Jerry a beautiful Wednesday afternoon together! 😊

  4. Hi, Mike et al! WELCOME BACK, MIKE! With our newspaper still in the yard, I went to Seattle where the Jumble is in color, can be enlarged a little big, and has sounds that let you know when you get a word or answer correct. According to their timer, I finished our Wednesday Jumble puzzle in 2:35 or two minutes, thirty-five seconds.

Didn’t have trouble with any of the words or answer except for seeing the word “idle” and writing “idley” for YIELD. How I do love to make up words! Now I’m going to have the delight of reading your post, Mike!

    • Hi Lelia – With you it’s tulips, with me it’s roses. They’re blooming out all over my yard despite the fact that I’ve given them almost no attention at all. Most have been here since at least 1980, and for all I know they may have been here since 1920. Most have that “old-rose” fragrance from before hybridization.

  5. I hate solutions in quotes and today’s “whys” was no exception, though an easy solve, despite the clever(?) spelling of wise.

    • I thought it was an exceptionally creative solution! The cartoon gave nothing away which I enjoyed the most. Doing all the puzzles from last week, Jeff & David have been giving us some high quality material. I’m glad that you were able to figure it out without much trouble. 😎

  6. Count me in with those who saw Isley instead of yield. Other than that hiccup, it was an easy solve. Happy Wednesday everyone and welcome back, Mike.

    • Thank you, Betty! I told Lelia that I never once thought of IDLEY so you were all on top of it this morning. I’m definitely rusty after having the week off. Enjoy your Wednesday! 🙂🙂🙂

  7. The HONEY badger was very GRUMPY when he spied a WEASEL, who would not YIELD to his scolding, at the base of his favourite tree.
Welcome back Mike. Haven’t had time to read your post and Angela’s and I am way behind schedule for my bike ride, so it will have to be until later.

    • I’m glad you’re enjoying this beautiful spring day, Earl! Such a creative and descriptive sentence you graced us with this morning. I look forward to reading the comments from last week and enjoying all of your material. Be well, my friend! 🙂

  8. Hi all – No problems with the words or answer today.

🎵”Well I’m begging on my bended knees
If you’ll only listen to my pleas
Is there anything I can do?
‘Cause I really can’t stand it, I’m so in love with you.”🎵
    Nice song choice Angela!

🎵”A taste of HONEY, Tasting much sweeter then wine”🎵
Are those the “BEE’S KNEES?” What a coincidence! The word HONEY made me want to sent good wishes to Mike’s bees. First we thought they were going to freeze, now they might roast in the 80°+ weather. And then I see you’re back! “Welcome back to another HALF-week of fun, my Jumble friend!” (Hmmm, where have I heard that before? 🤔😂🙋🏻‍♂️)
    Enjoy the weather, everyone!

    • Well it’s time I broke the news, Steve. The bees didn’t survive all of that cold weather we had and my son was heartbroken. We talked to the gentleman at the apiary and he comforted us by letting us know that many of his customers had the same experience. We ordered another nuc of bees and they’ll be here near the end of the month. Fingers crossed that this next batch works out.

Hopefully we’ll be able to chat in IOW about baseball this weekend during a game. Isn’t hockey over yet?! 😉

      • Sorry to hear that, Mike. They really hit a bad break in the weather. Good luck with the next batch. Came back from Florida to get some warm weather, eh?
Still in full-on hockey mode, but it will soon taper off to only *one* game per day. 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  9. Good evening. Hope you had a good time while you were away Mike. Have not read anything yet on the way back to Brooklyn from A/C. I got smart and stayed away from the card game “Let it Ride”. Only played the machines and came home with winning 357 dollars. The soup stand is called “soup man” with a picture of the guy who could pass for the soup Nazi. No problem with the entire puzzle today. Had it done in less than fifteen minutes. Until tomorrow stay well

    • I was wondering where you where when we didn’t hear from you, Paul. Congratulations on your winnings and thanks for filling us in on the “Soup Man” stand. Did you try any?
