ESINKSCSE = “SICK” SENSE

Happy Tuesday, everyone! The 5-letter clue words were no trouble at all and took just a glance to decipher. KIDNY looks like it’s already spelled correctly so I wonder how many people will be tricked by David’s anagram. CALOIS was a beautiful Jumble and it left the answer well hidden. I actually skipped it and moved on to SWIVEL before returning for another go. Trying my technique of working the anagram backwards allowed me to start making words with “S” and SOCIAL came into view after a couple of attempts.

The setting for today’s cartoon is a hospital room where a patient is resting on a bed as comfortably as he can. He appears to be sweating profusely and his face is covered with round bumps or blotches. Two medical professionals are also present in the room and they appear to be examining the patient while having a conversation amongst themselves. Reading the dialogue and sentence sheds new light on the situation and we learn that the doctors are having some trouble determining the proper diagnosis. The female doctor states that she’s stumped while the male doctor has a feeling that it’s just an allergic reaction.

By looking closely at the cartoon, I began to notice a contrast between the two doctors which really helped during the final solve. The female appears very professional with a stethoscope draped around her neck and a clipboard in her hands. Since my cartoon is in black and white print, the color of her shirt is white and his is black. He seem’s to be going with a gut instinct rather than making a “proper” medical diagnosis which had me thinking that this doc is a quack!

The surprise answer contained a 4-letter word in quotations as well as a 5-letter word. Writing out the clue letters brought SICK instantly into view leaving SENSE just a short solve to finish it off. Not an overly difficult puzzle, but the surprise answer was a hoot! Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow.
