CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN PEOPLE VISIT GRACELAND, THEY GET TO SEE HOW ELVIS – – –

EKEVIILDIALKNG = LIVED LIKE A KING

Happy Tuesday, Jumble fans! VIGIL is a new clue word making its debut this morning. The rest are recycled favorites that were repurposed into all new anagrams. DISMAL is the oldest one of the bunch and was last used in gameplay on 12/27/16. The most difficult anagram for me this morning was KNIGHT. At first glance it looked like THINK or THING but a bit of mental gymnastics allowed the correct answer to finally reveal itself.

When first looking at the cartoon, we see two people admiring the outside facade of a home. They both have expressions of happiness and appear to be awestruck by the structure. The cartoon sentence reveals that the building is Graceland which was home to the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley!

Graceland is a mansion situated on a 13.8 acre estate in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s street address is 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard and is about 9 miles from Downtown and less than 4 miles north of the Mississippi border. Presley purchased Graceland on March 19, 1957 for the royal sum of $102,500.

There were a few interesting details hidden in today’s panel that I’d like to call your attention to. First up was the female sightseer taking a photo of Graceland with her phone. Jumble artist, Jeff Knurek, somehow managed to capture all of the beautiful detail of the home and produce a mirror image of it on her tiny screen. Super impressive! The shirt that our male half is wearing has a logo with the letters TCB and is accompanied by a lightning bolt. TCB stands for “Takin’ Care of Business” and was a favored motto of the king while the lightning bolt represents “In a Flash”. Lastly was the marble lion statue near the walkway of the home. Elvis purchased two lion statues in August, 1957 and an invoice shows that the cost and installation of them totaled $1,000.

The letter layout for the final solution was an enormous 14-letter anagram. The KNG at the end of the anagram brought KING instantly to mind. LIVED jumped out at me next leaving LIKE and A for the finish. A very impressive cartoon and a terrific surprise answer made today’s Jumble a treat to solve. Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. 🎶 There must be lights burning brighter somewhere…Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue…If I can dream of a better land…Where all my brothers walk hand in hand…Tell me why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true…🎶 “If I Can Dream” – Elvis 1968

👑 The Blue Suede Shoes, the pompadour, the hips that wouldn’t quit…
The memories these things EVOKE…A King they would befit…
The KNIGHT in shining armor, sequined jumpsuit should I say?
He stole the hearts of many, way back then in his heyday.
And now he lies at Graceland, where a VIGIL’s often kept,
And fans came by the millions…some are even still bereft…
But the atmosphere’s not DISMAL, if you visit you will see,
How Elvis lived surrounded by things shiny and glitzy…
They named him Rock and Roll’s King, for the music he would bring…
And through it all he laughed and loved and he LIVED LIKE A KING! 👑

Our 🎶Words🎶 today? Easy, breezy…The solution instant MUSIC to my ears…And I’m thinking…🎶That’s All Right🎶! The KING of Rock and Roll…LIVED LIKE A KING!…Today, we’re at GRACELAND, property ELVIS purchased in 1957 with a $1,000. deposit on the 13.8 acre Estate with the $102, 500 price tag. Two interesting facts about GRACELAND: 1 – It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006, and 2 – It’s the second most-visited house in the U.S. after the White House, with over 650,000 visitors a year.. Oh wait, Three.. Opening to the public in 1982, it hit the 20 million visitor mark in 2016! Do the math…Now that’s some serious 🎶Fame and Fortune🎶, wouldn’t you say? Ok, Jeff’s depiction of the 🎶Mansion Over the Hilltop🎶… If you’ve never been, look on-line for pictures of GRACELAND and you’ll see how he’s captured all the little details: The double-hung windows, the balcony above the door, the potted shrubbery, the lion at right holding a shield, (the unseen one at left isn’t), the Corinthian columns, and the massive front door with its colorful stained-glass sidelights and transom. It’s very ornate…For some, I guess 🎶This is Living🎶, but for me…I can’t say 🎶That’s My Desire🎶. It’s just way too over the top. The panel has a white-washed effect, darkening from bottom to top where it’s a muted shade of creme. Only the couple is shown in color…

And here’s where we find today’s eye candy. The man, 🎶Mr Songman🎶, is in jeans, sporting quite a healthy head of hair! If you 🎶Ask Me🎶, he may just be an ELVIS impersonator, since he’s got that pompadour thing going on…and HAIR today, the sideburns work! Our woman, 🎶Mary Lou Brown🎶, who may be 🎶His Latest Flame🎶, is dressed in a pink top, and black pants, and holds a Smart Phone on which we can see the Mansions’ image, as she’s taking its’ picture…But Jeff’s 🎶Good Luck Charm🎶 today? Our guys’ T-Shirt. It’s an ELVIS Shirt…Black, and emblazoned in white with ELVIS’S famous catch-phrase letters, and the name of his band, TCB…”Taking Care of Business”, along with the Lightning Bolt Logo….giving us “TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS IN A FLASH”, ELVIS’S mantra, and what became a point of pride for him and the entourage he surrounded himself with, The Memphis Mafia…And ELVIS, not one to shy away from jewelry, wore many rings and necklaces made in its’ likeness…There’s plenty of pictures of those on-line also, although 🎶I Believe🎶 they’re just a little 🎶Too Much🎶, for my taste. Perfect detail with the TCB, Jeff..🎶I’m All Shook Up🎶, and I 🎶Can’t Help Falling In Love🎶 with this one! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! 🎶Have a Happy🎶, Everyone!…ELVIS has left the building! 👑🙋🏻

  2. The VIGIL for King Elvis was DISMAL until Gladys KNIGHT came to EVOKE the music of a legend.
No problems with the scrambled words or the solution today—a little more difficult than yesterday but still manageable for Tuesday.
Mike–thanks for the background information and drawing my attention to things I did not see or did not know about.
Angela—great poem fit the King of Rock and Roll and his Graceland.
Your song was not the one I would have chosen but then Simon (and Garfunkel) are my main men and Paul’s “Graceland” album is one of my all-time favourites. Puns aside I guess we can’t always see I to I about what a cartoon EVOKEs, right?
    Have a sunny day everyone.

    • You’re most welcome, Earl. I had no idea how you were going to use KNIGHT this morning as it seemed like the odd word out. You pulled it off brilliantly as always.

It’s absolutely downpouring here from the remnants of Florence so sunny will have to wait for another day. Take care.

    • Good Morning, Earl. ..Now you must know that 🎶 Graceland🎶 started playing in my head immediately this morning! In fact my friend pulled it up and played it all through breakfast…But it just didn’t seemed right not to go with an Elvis song, you know what I mean? And there was a treasure trove to choose from, but I went with this, because I always felt Elvis kept searching…that Graceland just wasn’t ever enough…Love the I to I, along with your tribute sentence to him and Miss Gladys.👏🏻 ..And as always..Thanks for the Shout Outs…I had a lot of fun with the Poem..In fact, I wrote two..but the other’s just a little too “Memphis” for the family blog! That one I shared with my morning crew…We all had a good laugh! Hope you enjoy your day, Earl. Ciao, Bello! 👑🙋🏻

  3. No problem with the words or final solution,as lived like a king jumped right out to me,which was a surprise, as multiple letter puzzles usually give me trouble.I am a big Elvis fan and have gone to Memphis twice to tour the estate, see the auto museum and his plane, as well as the multiple gift shops and radio station across the street from his estate.

  4. Good afternoon I finally got this a little while ago. Wasn’t about to sneak in the back way again. I have no idea why it took so long to appear. Thanks Mike for all you info. Enjoyed the facts, just the facts sir. Angela, good song choice. There might be better ones but this fits the theme. Good poem and puns. Earl, terrific as always. I had a slight hitch on Dismal but the rest was easy. After studying the cartoon, the answer came to me. It was not to hard or easy. Just right. Until tomorrow stay well and DRY.

    • Hey, SGT. FRIDAY! 😉 How’re doing? Good one! …Did the smell of that burning rubber reach your block? My cousins said it was like night time fell over the sky…We have friends who dock behind there, and they think the stench may never come out…I’m so glad they caught the guy…Thank God nobody got killed…And we were just talking about these poor Firemen, right? SMH…Thanks for the Shout Out, Bud…it was an easy run…And the song isn’t my favorite of his, by no means, but like you said, it did just seem to fit…Hoping your staying dry too…It’s been pouring here for hours…This keeps up, the Bombers aren’t playing tonight either…Ciao, Bello! 😘🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – Actually, DISMAL took me the longest because I started out with MIS- something. I always try GHT together, and the K made that easy. Then I thought I saw the answer, and again the K and the “palace” comment showed me it was correct.

Wow, so many little song references Angela, but 🎵”That’s all right, Mama”🎵, I think I caught most but not all of them. I’m not sure about the woman’s name, though, because 🎵”Marie’s the name of his latest flame”.🎵 Well, and his friend’s flame too, but that’s a WHOLE ‘nother story.

Have a great day, and try to stay dry back East there.

Finally, a Safeway Song from the Ceiling this morning; it’s been awhile. Actually a Rafter Repeat that I’ve heard there before, Stevie Nicks’ “The Edge of Seventeen”. 🎵”And the music there, it was hauntingly familiar.”🎵

  6. I didn’t have any problems today but I thought of this song:
    🎵Saw the ghost of Elvis
    On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through🎵

I heard the writer Marc Cohn sing it at a Bonnie Raitt concert.
