Jumble Answers for 08/20/2018

Happy Monday, Jumble fans! We have a new clue word this morning with LAZILY making it’s debut. It was also the only word to give me a slight pause making it my choice for the most difficult anagram of the day. The other three words were old favorites with QUAKE being the oldest of the bunch. Last used on 5/2/16, it was jumbled as EUKQA but was just as easily deciphered then as it was today. Upon solving all of the clue words, I noticed that they were in reverse alphabetical order making for a wonderful surprise to start the week.

Today’s cartoon brings us to be a grocery store where we see an older woman standing behind a table with a banner on it that reads “Fizzy Fun Taste Test”. The cartoon sentence informs us that what we are seeing is a blind taste test between two different cola brands. A couple of shoppers are at the table and they each have a sample of both cola “A” and cola “B” in their hands. When asked which brand tastes better, the male shopper replies that he’s not good at tests while the female shopper states that her favorite is B.

There were a few details in today’s panel that deserve a mention. Jeff was careful to draw the soda containers without a label to make sure that we knew that this was a blind taste test. You can also see a name tag on the woman conducting the sampling but unfortunately nothing was written on it. My favorite detail of this piece was the bit of hair sticking out from the back of the female shoppers head. Although it was very small, it added just a touch of realism to her character.

The letter layout for the final solve consisted of 7-letters. I was able to blind solve this puzzle without the help of the clue letters but wrote them out just for fun. No matter how hard David might have tried to hide the words, the uniqueness of the letters made this one a no-brainer. Have a merry Monday, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

  1. Good Morning, Mike. SODA puzzle appealed to you? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have a good one! ๐Ÿ†Ž๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. ๐ŸŽถ If you ever go down Trinidad…They make you feel so very glad, Calypso sing and make up rhyme…Guarantee you one real good fine time…Drinkin’ Rum and COCA-COLA…Go down Point Koomahnah…Both mother and daughter, Workin’ for the Yankee dollar…Rum and COCA-COLA…Rum and COCA-COLA…Workin’ for the Yankee dollar…๐ŸŽถ “Rum and Coca-Cola – The Andrew Sisters 1945

๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ฑ You know I’ve seen this happen, ’cause you always get the one…
Who answers like this and then thinks he’s such a lot of fun.
What’s funny here though lies within the fact that in New York,
We don’t say “Pop” and never have…it’s not the way we talk.
It’s Soda, plain and simple, no DOUBLE word for us,
It LAZILY rolls off our tongues, without the slightest fuss.
Same thing with drinking “Cocoa” when it’s NIPPY-Not a go…
We say it as “Hot Chocolate” when the weather turns to snow.
These phrases that are regional, like Quiver vs QUAKE,
All mean the same, it’s not like one is right vs mistake…
But anyway, this guy right here…Confusion that is his?
Just take a shot, Dude…there’s no grading on this Mall POP QUIZ! ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ฑ

Good Monday Morning, Everyone! Easy, breezy words today..all SWEET Repeats except for one…But, perhaps a bitter pill to SWALLOW? LAZILY: Another Adverb? The 3rd one in the last week or so? Has David acquired a TASTE for them now? After keeping them BOTTLED up for so long? Hmm. Anyway, it may be new…Unlike the theme of today’s puzzle. Which COLA has the better TASTE? Let’s be honest, Folks…They’ve been cramming this DOWN our THROATS for years…Today Jeff has us at what appears to be a Kiosk in a neighborhood Mall. We see a male, Joe PEPSI, and a female, Rumma COCA-COLA , acting as participants, and an older woman, Mrs. ANNIE BODY, SERVING as the promoter. I’m sure you’ve all seen these Kiosks POP up now and then, right? Displays set up, and the “come on” to participate in a TASTE TEST. “C’mon…is it A or B? A-B”? …R, C what happens? You get confused…like JOE here. He’s flummoxed, he’s stressed…he feels like he did years ago when faced with a POP QUIZ!!! POP POP-FIZZ FIZZ..Oh what a good one this is! Nice job, David…SWEET!

Ok, eye candy…Not much to TEST our curiosity today, and trust me, I have POURED over this cartoon. We see the Banner, “Fizzy Fun Taste Test” emblazoned across the Table. The little A card is green, while the B one is Yellow…Coincidently the same colors in order as Joe and Rumma’s shirts…The BOTTLE in our promoters left hand looks capped, whereas the right one is definitely opened, but…”A”, that could just “B” my eyes”…There’s a stand-up display off to the side, shaded in the same blue as Annie’s dress. Looks like cartons and cans. But I CAN’t really get excited over that now, CAN I? Hmm..You know this is kind of hard…for a SOFT DRINK puzzle. I wish I could “B” more decisive like Rumma here, but I just CAN’t…FIZZY FUN? Not so much…Looks like this morning with the eye candy being SODApressing?… I’m just gonna CAN the whole thing..if that’s COKE-K with you! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! It’s the start of a new week…Get out there and DRINK it all in! ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  3. It was a NIPPY morning when I LAZILY awoke to a minor QUAKE and my dog did a DOUBLE run around the bed in some confusion.
Mike, I agree that LAZILY was the one word which slowed me down. I was also able to do a blind solve todayโ€“most likely because of the Q LETTER. Thanks for the details and the history of the words .
Back later, maybeโ€“depends on my day at the hospitalโ€“always unpredictable.

    • Good morning to you, Earl! A mighty fine sentence for an easy Monday solve. I hope you donโ€™t mind, but I edited your post and capitalized DOUBLE after noticing that you forgot. Have a wonderful start to the week!

  4. QUAKE was too easy. In the English language, Q is almost always followed by U and then a vowel.

  5. Good morning. Thank you “Three Amigos”. Your tid bits, song choice and word sentence was enjoyable to read. I had no trouble with the words or the cartoon answer. Maybe just extra seconds on Lazily. I’d give it the nod for hardest word. Once I wrote down the letters for the cartoon it was an instant solve. Until tomorrow stay well. P.S. I never got back to yesterday’s jumble because I returned home late. I went to #2s house and from there we went to #5 s house. We had a German brunch with Brats and other delicious treats And then we installed a door closing a closet but this door is just like what you would have if you entered a barn. You install a track and the door hangs and rolls open and close like a barn door of elevator door. It’s different and I think very cool. Shame I can’t send a picture.

    • I know EXACTLY what youโ€™re talking about in regards to the door, Paul. Itโ€™s a really hot trend and my wife has been eyeing them. They do look pretty neat, too.

Great job on the solve, my friend. Enjoy your Monday. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hey Brooklyn…Thanks for the Shout Out! Paul…I’ve already replaced doors in two of my upstairs bedrooms with the “barns” so far…and I’m considering doing it to a few rooms downstairs too…Even my laundry room! Your daughter-in-law is going to love having them. Easy, breezy…and they look sooooo good! I’ve gotten a gazillion complements since last year…Tell her Good Luck with them! Have a good one, Bud. We got a break with the weather…Enjoy it while we can! Ciao, Bello! ๐Ÿ†Ž๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  6. No ink was spilled to solve todayโ€™s puzzle. Easy, breezy Monday.

Now if our foul, smoke-filled skies would clear! AQ is 300+, today. HAZARDOUS.

    • Iโ€™m glad that you enjoyed it, Betty. There wasnโ€™t a whole lot to talk about so weโ€™ll see what tomorrow brings. I hope the sun is shining for you today! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Hi all – I liked seeing LAZILY, but nothing caused any slowdown today. Hard to hide a 7-letter answer when you already have Q, U and Z.

Angela, glad your solution was so Speedy, requiring no Alka-Seltzer at all.

Mike, sorry I missed your message Friday. The Aโ€™s had a good weekend, and the Oโ€™s achieved their 50-games-behind status. Now about those Giants – fuhgeddaboudit. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    Happy Monday, everyone.

    • ROTFL!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป One for each of us! ๐Ÿ˜˜ Mediocrity at its best! I laughed then, I’m laughing now! And Speedy?!! An extra one just for you…๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป. But…” FUHGEDDABOUDIT?? Sorry,,,I think you need to be a NY’er to pull that one off!! ๐Ÿ˜˜ Have a good one, G! ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • Had to use the Urban Dictionary for that one! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

        • ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ ROTFL!!!! Really? See what I mean?? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Later,Gator…Cooking up a storm…Uh oh..Storm…I better not say that word! Ciao! ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • Hey,I heard one of the guys yell out “In like Flynn” today while playing bocce. The guy sneaked a second ball in by his other shot which gave them two points. We talked about that phrase only last week.

    • Hey, Steve! No worries about last Friday. I just got caught up in the games and thought that Iโ€™d see if you were around.

I was watching the Mariners last night and what John mentioned about the air quality was on full display. The haze from the wildfires was incredible and a few people in the crowd could be seen wearing surgical masks. Too bad it covered up their smiles after a nice win. Take care, my friend!

      • Thanks for the info. I hadnโ€™t heard about the air quality there until John posted. We have a bit of the haze from the CA fires, but nothing like that. All we have today is a 2,000-foot deep โ€œmarine layerโ€ (fog) from the ocean that looks like it wonโ€™t burn off until early afternoon – actually pretty normal for August here.
Just an admin note – I didnโ€™t see your Friday message in my email because of IOW having been reset. When that happens (and on the main page everyday), I donโ€™t get email notices until I send a post with the โ€˜notifyโ€™ boxes checked. Just the way wordpress works, I guess.
(Not a criticism, I actually like having IOW refreshed weekly). Have a good one!

        • Ahhhhh, gotcha! I laughed at โ€œrefreshed weeklyโ€. Iโ€™ve been terrible at keeping it updated and have had to use a calendar a few times to figure out what week weโ€™re on. I have my notifications off for IOW so if I donโ€™t think of it, it doesnโ€™t get refreshed.

          • Yeah, itโ€™s not like you have anything else to do, what with kids, school, activities, stove pellets, bees and stuff! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™m retired and itโ€™s all I can do to post in the morning! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  8. Back home again but in Illinois not Indiana.Words and solution a snap.Agree with the QU being a ready give away along with the ly and z.

        • I know that Prof, that’s why I gave you the ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Applause! I got a slew of Hoosiers close to my heart! Glad you’re back safe and sound…๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
