CARTOON ANSWER:

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD’S “GRANDMOTHER” WAS IN A HURRY TO EAT AND – – –

LOIWNDODTFEW = WOLFED IT DOWN

Happy Monday, Jumble players! All of the clue words that we see this morning were old favorites. ODDITY was the only anagram that wasn’t immediately visible and took a few extra seconds to come into view. By using the “Y trick”, I placed the Y at the end of the word which made ODD jump out at me and the rest fell neatly into place. It’s my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day and it’s also the oldest word in the lineup with its last appearance on 5/21/17.

The setting for today’s cartoon features two characters sitting at a dining table. Noticing that there was a wolf dressed like a grandmother brought the fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” instantly to mind. It’s been some time since I’ve heard this story but I remembered that the big bad wolf was always scheming ways to eat the basket of food that Little Red was bringing to her sickly grandmother, as well as devising ways to eat Little Red herself!

Little Red has noticed that her “grandmother” has a big appetite and watches as she gobbles down all the food on the plate. This little girl isn’t as naive as the wolf thinks and there’s one clue on the table that will give this imposter away. Grandmother is surely old-fashioned and would both eat like a civilized human being as well as set the table like one. The knife that is on the table has the blade facing away from the plate which is a table setting etiquette no-no. Grandmother would surely know to have that blade facing in to make it a proper setting thus giving her precious granddaughter proper table manners!

The final solve wasn’t difficult after noticing the two W’s in the layout. WOLF came to mind leaving the rest to be worked out after just a few seconds of staring at the remaining letters. Have a marvelous Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike! Nice TALE! I wanted my post shorter…but unfortunately once I got my TEETH sunk into it?…Well, I just couldn’t CHEWs what part to CUT! Wishing you a good one! πŸ˜‚πŸΊπŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. 🎢 Owoooooooo!…Who’s that I see walkin’ in these woods?…Why, it’s LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD…Hey there LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, you sure are looking good, you’re everything a BIG BAD WOLF could want…Listen to me…LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, I don’t think little big girls should…Go walking in these spooky old woods alone…🎢 “‘Lil Red Riding Hood” – Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs – 1966

🐺 I never could quite fathom how a story meant for kids,
Would think that such an ODDITY as this would do its bid…
I feel that LOGIC dictates that we teach our children well,
And a Wolf eating a Grandma’s not a story we should tell.
You picture fear, a WOUND or two, despite the story stating…
That poor Grandma was eaten whole..no skin the Wolves’ teeth grating…
Just writing this I shake my head, yet Grimm and his co-FELLOW
Published this tale and wrote others…And none were very mellow…
But anyway, the “Grim” Brothers can keep their famed renown,
I never did and never will digest the WOLFED IT DOWN! 🐺

Ah, Monday…New week, new words? No, not today…all Sweet Repeats, with LOGIC having last appeared on June 23rd, and the others between May and November of last year. Easily RECOGNIZED, I took a quick BITE out of them, and moved on to our cartoon…So, today we find ourselves in the midst of a FAIRY TALE. We’re at GRANDMA’S house, where LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD is having Hor d’oeuvres with The BIG BAD WOLF…I say Hor d’oeuvres, because according to the script, RED’S next on the menu…And you’d think a WOLF of this age would be avoiding RED meat, right? But I guess his cardiologist doesn’t hold to the GRIMM details regarding not FOLLOWing a sensible diet!…Hmm..You know what? Let’s just CUT to the CHASE, because it’s way too early in the morning, I haven’t EATEN breakfast yet, and I’m definitely losing my APPETITE…This just isn’t my cup of TEEth…Bottom line…They’re dining, RED’S whining…And our question states..Since “GRANDMOTHER” was in a hurry…she WOLFED IT DOWN! HA! Good one, David…CHILD’S PLAY!

Ok, eye candy…The WOLF’S dressed in GRANDMA’S ruffled blue cap and gown, sporting PRINCE Nez glasses…Oh wait…Wrong Fairy Tale, I mean PINCE NEZ glasses. A picture of GRANDMA and RED hangs on the wall…And even though it’s in black and white, you’d think RED would realize she’s being FRAMED…The bed in the background displays linens in disarray…but I’m drawing a BLANK..ET’s not saying much…Nice details on the Door…Window and Knob…but I can’t really get INTO it. RED has a look of annoyance on her face…What? She’s finding GRANDMA’S table manners hard to DIGEST? And what about the CUTlery? Not so KNIFEly done…And of course, there’s that long Wolf Tongue hanging out…But this is a Family blog..so I’m BITING mine… I think I’m just going to concentrate on the TABLE area…It looks like they’re eating Mashed Potatoes and a STAKE…Oh wait, I’m doing it again, wrong TAIL…I mean a STEAK…And again, it’s in black and white also…BLAND food I guess…But it’s the TABLE itself that’s bothering me…FOREST I can tell, it’s very low. But if it’s low enough for RED to sit at, how’s the WOLF’s legs fitting under there? I think I KNEEd an explanation…And while we’re at it? Where’s RED’S chair? Did the chair break?…Oh wait…!!! That was GOLDILOCKS! I just can’t get these FRACTURED FAIRY TALES straight! But seriously, Jeff….Where is RED’S CHAIR? I think we’re getting HOODwinked here, because I can’t see SQUAT!.. This whole thing just left me SEATing RED! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day Everyone! And if you’re lucky enough to still have a Grandmother? VISIT her…EYE’m sure she’ll be so FAIRY happy to SEE you! πŸΊπŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. Good morning. The gaping Wound on the Fellow was no Oddity for Logic has it that he was looking for trouble. Nice job Mike and Angela your song choice was perfect and the Plethora of puns was puntastic. The words were easy with just a slight slow down on Oddity. When I went to the cartoon,it stumped me for a good half hour and then the answer just appeared. Thought it was very cleaver. An A+ for the entire jumble. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good afternoon, Paul! I agree that the puzzle was clever and well thought out. For some reason those two W’s just leapt out at me and sealed the deal. I’m glad you stuck with it and were able to finish it off. Have a great start to the week! πŸ™‚

  4. There was no LOGIC and a strange ODDITY occurred when a polite FELLOW received a head WOUND helping an elderly lady retrieve her purse.
Great POSTS. Mike, Angela and Paul. No time today for any more comments

  5. Hi all – ODDITY caused me to put the double letters together; then I saw it. Is it an ODDITY that WOLF appears in both the words and the answer? Also a bit of an ODDITY that all three people used WOUND as an injury rather than what you would do to a watch.

I hope that good table manners aren’t considered old-fashioned, but maybe so.
In any case, thanks for the etiquette lesson Mr. Manners. However, I think that the wolf picking up the plate with both paws and shoving his face into it would probably overshadow which way the knife’s pointing.

Angela, I’m trying to get Sam the Sham to sic the Wooly Bully on the Big Bad Wolf, but nothing’s happening there.

    Have a great day everyone!

    • …Guess it just WOUND up that way!πŸ˜‰ The mediocre minds and all…And I agree…that WOLF’s a PIG! πŸ˜‰ …ANOTHER blurred Fairy Tale! And if I were a betting girl, I’d have put money on you working Wooly Bully in there some way…Oh wait..I am! πŸ˜‚ I just knew it this morning as I posted the song that you’d go there! Is there no end to the mediocrity??!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚Have a good one, G! πŸΊπŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Happy Monday, Steve! It was a long weekend of baseball and I had a hard time sleeping after the longer than usual Sox/Yanks game last night.

All that jumped out at me this morning was the knife being placed incorrectly so I went with it. My foggy haze from the lack of sleep has finally departed so I’ll *hopefully* make it more interesting tomorrow. I admit it wasn’t my best. πŸ˜‚

  6. Hi, all! I enjoyed the Little Red Riding Hood theme, a fast Monday solve for me except for a few extra seconds on a word that I thought was an ODDITY.

Mike, I enjoyed your solve. Your table-setting lesson made me smile. My children & grandchildren still set the table like the wolf after all of my lessons and my doing it correctly at every family get-together, however I never call attention to it, hence no change in their behavior.

    • Good afternoon, Lelia! The knife caught my attention because as a freshman I had to do a public speaking course with my topic for the audience being proper table settings and dinner etiquette. I still remember most of it and it does impress waiters and waitresses when they see my skills. πŸ˜‚
