Jumble Answers for 01/11/2018

Good Thursday morning everyone! If today’s Jumble was a gymnastics competition, there’s no doubt in my mind that everyone would win a gold medal. PERKY was the only challenging word this morning and that may be giving it too much credit. I don’t recall seeing it used recently so it was refreshing to have a spirited and lively adjective in the quartet. Noticing that three of the clue words contained P’s, I was sure that there would be a couple of them in the surprise answer.

Feeling like a champ, I moved on to the cartoon with an air of confidence and some pep in my step. Five young women were the main focus of this panel and they all had smiling faces and appeared to be super excited. Their happy mood was rather contagious and I couldn’t help but crack a smile as I worked out the solve. Reading the dialogue and sentence, we learn that the women are gymnasts and they just won a competition. The illustration was devoid of any fine detail, but none was necessary. The one simple action line behind the gymnast doing a backflip was key to the solve and I knew the solution instantly upon seeing it.

Writing out the clue letters, the P’s that I mentioned earlier were there giving us a layout that almost spells PEPTO FLUID. A quick crossing out of the letters confirmed my suspicion that FLIPPED OUT was indeed the answer leaving my jumbling duties finished for the day.

If the puzzle was a quick solve for you, please consider taking a moment to ask David L. Hoyt a question in the post at the top of the website. We’ve received some really good one’s and time is running out to get your submissions in. If you’ve already left a question, go ahead and leave a few more — the more the merrier! You surely won’t want to miss out on this unique opportunity. Have a terrific Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike. Pepto Fluid? Hmm. Great post…Shall I say unPARALLELed? Wishing you a BOUNCE in your step today! πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • 🎢I get no FLIP from champagne. Mere alcohol doesn’t thrill me at all..So tell me why should it be true, that I get a FLIP out of you? I get no FLIP in a plane. Flying too high with some gal in the sky is my idea of nothing to do…Yet I get a FLIP – Umm, you give me a boot – I get a FLIP out of you…🎢

πŸ‘― πŸ‘―A happy cartoon shown today, with PERKY teenage girls
A FAMILY of Gymnasts all jumping and a twirl…
Competitors a team of five, they’ve gone on to the win
Excited and triumphant, now the partying begins…
Perhaps out on a PATIO, UPDATEd for the team
Their colors prominently shown to make a festive theme.
This puzzle is so simple, today there’ll be no doubt
The Gymnasts are ecstatic, and we see why they’ve “FLIPPED OUT”! πŸ‘―πŸ‘―

It is Thursday, right? Just CHECKing, because we’re given words of such an easy SCALE. Old favorites, and ROUTINE. Finished in a SPLIT second! So, LEAPING over to our cartoon, we see five young girls, absolutely BEAMing in delight. The question tells us they’ve won their competition, and Jeff shows us how they’re RAISING THE ROOF…after they’ve RAISED THE BAR! A party’s definitely on tap! In my poem above, I suggested it be held out on a Patio. I’ll add, hopefully in Summer. And why? So that our girls could do some SUMMERsaults, that’s why! No? Not QUALIFYING for a laugh? Alright, no JUDGING, just thought I’d give us all a QUICK little smile. Anyway, we see that our girl front left is in MOTION. She’s FLIPPING, and Jeff’s drawn us the LINE of MOTION. Nice TOUCH! And what a hint! These girls have …FLIPPED OUT! Boom! APPLAUSE! APPLAUSE! Great DISPLAY, Guys! Ok, eye candy…Let’s see, what MEETs the eye….Five girls, all clad in Purple leotards, and Mauve tights…with either blonde or ombrΓ© blonde hair…Yep, that’s the LAYOUT…Jeez, I don’t have the STRENGTH for this…I’m just FLOORed! So, There you have it Folks! Done.
Have a great day, Everyone! And if you’re anything like me? Those two pubs up on the Avenue…One across the street from the other? PARALLEL BARS… Just Sayin’..! πŸ‘―πŸ™‹πŸ»

        • WEIGH too easy, right? Dave needs to open up that VAULT and STICK it to us! πŸ˜‚πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Perhaps the song should have been β€œI get a KIP out of you.” πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

        • πŸ‘πŸ» πŸ‘πŸ» Mediocre minds at it’s finest, Grasshopper Good call! I did consider it, but the puzzle called for “Flip”. As it is, I anguished over screwing around with a Sinatra (BMH) lyric…..But I was a little out of it this morning, and it was all that was coming to me…But you made me LOL….πŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. Good morning. Today’s puzzle was almost a complete snap. I was stuck on family so I went to the cartoon and looking at the picture and seeing the backflip it was obvious what the answer was. Knowing the three letters I needed I finally got the last word. All and all a fun puzzle. Until tomorrow stay well. You really have to feel for the poor people in California, first they had to deal with the raging fires and now the mud slides.cant imagine thinking you safe in your home and it gets swept away. My prayers are out to them.

  3. The photo UPDATE of the FAMILY showed a PERKY gymnast stretching on the PATIO.
I paused on UPDATE–probably because I don’t expect the answer to begin with the same letter found in first space in the scramble. Otherwise easy solution and a clever cartoon.
Can’t think of any questions I would like to ask, Mike, so hope others will be forthcoming. Have a good day everyone and enjoy pleasant weather before it takes a turn for the—–whatever.Great posts Mike and Angela.

  4. Hi all – Easy today. I’d say PATIO was the trickiest, but I’ve seen it enough to recognize it. The LY trick worked for FAMILY, and the UP trick for UPDATE.

Mike, you really gave me a good laugh with Pepto Fluid! πŸ˜‚ No wonder three of the words contained P’s. Some of us may be a little *too* familiar with that.
In regard to your breaking out the summer clothes as the temp approaches 50, when I was in Chicago one of my co-workers was an Alaska native. He thought 20Β° was T-shirt weather!

There’s always a risk to be taken and sometimes a price to be paid for living in those beautiful mountains and wooded canyons, but of course it doesn’t make it any less awful when it happens. Personally, I’m more freaked out by the thought of tornadoes roaring across those wide open exposed plains.
