CARTOON ANSWER:

SHE WANTED HIM TO GO WITH HER TO AN ESTATE PLANNER, AND HE DID IT —

HAIAGILSLNSWIT = AGAINST HIS WILL

Good Monday morning my friends!  It’s always great getting away for awhile, but nothing feels as good as being home.  A big THANK YOU to Angela for keeping the answers flowing and doing an excellent write-up every morning.  All of your hard work was greatly appreciated!!!  πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»

I must admit that I only glanced at the puzzles last week and never really attempted any of them so it felt great to shake off the rust and get back to work.  The only clue word to give me some pause was ISLAND but it was a breeze after breaking out my notepad and doing a little self-jumbling.  The cartoon answer was more difficult than I expected for a Monday morning with none of the words coming into view immediately.  I figured my best bet was to tackle the three letter word first but none of the usual suspects worked (the, and, or was).  After reading the dialogue and sentence, HIS popped into view with WILL coming next.  At that point, I had the whole answer and was amazed that it left AGAINST spelled almost perfectly in the letter layout.  My favorite part of the cartoon was the way Jeff framed it and had us looking at the couple in their garage.  If you look closely at the top of the cartoon, you can see the garage door.

For some reason I stopped getting email alerts of new posts about halfway through last week and I’m not sure why this started happening.  I now understand what some of you folks were experiencing and I’ll try to fix it if possible.  Have an enjoyable Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  πŸ™‚

  1. Good morning, Mike. “Ben Tornato, Mia Amico”. Welcome back, my Friend!
During the past week, I would sporadically hear this clicking sound. Sometimes loud, sometimes soft, but, “Click, Click, Click”. I chalked it up to lack of sleep, stress…that incessant inner voice just making noise. But then I realized, it was you! Missing this! “There’s no place like home, There’s no place like home…” Well, Welcome Home, Mike. Does it feel like Kansas any more? LOL. I want to apologize if I turned this into a chat room here and there, it’s easy to get caught up in the camaraderie; I hope I didn’t tarnish your reputation. And I thank you for allowing me to “keep the answers flowing”.
    ( I fear I kind of flowed a lot more at times…)!

I breezed through today’s puzzle, and loved the answer, especially the 3-letter word! HIS! Redemption from y’day! And ask me about the car…”Um, red”!

Note: As I’m writing this, I get a bulletin notification on my iPhone from ABC NEWS. “Big Announcement”. North Korea? Flood conditions around the country? Maniac shooting up a pool party in San Diego?…Uh, no..Ryan Seacrest named new co-host of Live with Kelly! Hmm..Uh, 1- Huh? Uh, 2- Like this man NEEDS another job? Just ‘sayin!

    Good morning, everyone!
    Mike, I’m glad you’re back. πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • No apologies, Angela! I’m glad you had fun with it and expressed your personal style. It was fun reading all the comments back and forth, but I was surprised my alerts stopped showing up. I don’t know what’s wrong with WordPress lately, and hopefully it’s a bug that’ll work itself out in an update. I plan on checking into it this afternoon just to cover all my bases. Tough loss for the Mets yesterday — I immediately thought of you cringing but it’s still early in the season. Enjoy your Monday. 😊

      • Mike, I had the same problem here and there . I also was getting emails the next day. Like 12-14 hours later. It got confusing, having to re-read them all to see if I had already replied to them. This morning I’m not getting any! The only way I saw this is because that little bell up top had the brown dot signifying posts. I hope it’s nothing I caused with the nonsensical increase in traffic . Mea culpa. If you have the time, it is good to check into it. But, God knows, there’s always so much readjusting when you first get back from vacation, right? Mike, the Mets? OMG…Who ever heard of a score like that.? Cringe was not the word. I liken it to whiplash. You shake your head so much, you get whiplash . Could be a lawsuit here! I actually found myself peeking through my fingers like you do as a kid watching a scary movie! 23 runs?!! Gave all new meaning to…”Hold my beer”! (Which I heard alllll night from the Yankee fans in my midst)! More like, “I owe you a case”! LOL I started some renovations last week, and the noise level is one I’m so not used to. There’s already enough sounds in my head! Wish me luck! Later! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. Hey Mike! Welcome back!
Don’t get me wrong, Angela did a great job, but (let’s see,
where are her song emojis — oh, here we go):

🎢🎢 “Ain’t nothing like the real thing” and

🎢🎢 “Isn’t it nice to be home again?”

And just for the heck of it, some Jethro Tull for you to use:
“Me, I’ll sit and write this love song
As I all too seldom do.
Build a little fire at midnight,
It’s good to be back home with you.”

I just hope this doesn’t find you with your toes in your waders
and your ass in the mud!

    • I wish I had a better understanding of some of the music you folks go back and forth about so I could chime in. I do pick up on the words in the lyrics and can appreciate them so thank you, Steve! Especially so early in the morning out west — you’re really awake for such an early hour. πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ»

      • Mike, The only reason you can’t relate to the majority of the music references is because we’ve got a lot more mileage! It’s NOT you! Well, HE’S got a lot more mileage, “I read a lot of “articles”. (Now HERE’S where one Drops the Mic)! πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Never too early to get up to welcome you home, Mike — or to tease Angela.
I learned a trick from her – prepare the post ahead of time, then just copy/paste/post/go back to sleep!

      • Lefty, Blaspheme! I did not teach the proverbial old dog a new trick! I cannot stand here and be accused of Premature Publication! The only times I wrote my post ahead of time was when I waited for Mikes’ to appear, because I’m up so early. As for my run, the puzzles on line about 3:30, my paper comes at 5:15, so….my posts came “Live from NY”! And as for going back to sleep? Bud, even with the 3-hour time difference, I got you ‘bright-eyed and busy-haired’ hands down! ( I use ‘haired’ because 1-I’m really not in the mood for any snide remarks (You don’t even want to go there)! and 2-It’s already a catch phrase of mine). Humidity gets me every time! ..(Think Bernadette Peters head, slightly on Valium)! LOL. Lefty, You really should be nicer to me today…You saw the bug I caught, right? πŸ˜ŸπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • That’s all I meant. I got the idea from your posts quite a while ago when you said you had yours ready to go because Mike hadn’t posted yet. Never meant today’s posts except mine. Real life is intruding; my wife’s not feeling well either. Hope you both get better soon!

      • Hey Steve, You must know I’m just joking with you. Didn’t mean to sound defensive. No harm, no foul. The bug I mentioned was just a laugh about my renovations. I’m sorry your wife’s not feeling well, I hope she’ll feel better soon. Real life is the important thing. Peace. πŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. Mike, that was very clever of you to fly home a day early, thus foiling
Angela’s plot, a la the Soviet leadership against Gorbachev in 1991,
to call out her minion army while you were in the air, take over the blog,
and declare herself “Queen of Jumble Answers”. We’re saved!

This has been a ** FAKE NEWS ALERT **

    • Lefty, You’re learning. You covered yourself with the “Fake News Alert” disclaimer. I’d never attempt a coup. Refer back to what I said about self praise. Not me…You strut, you stumble. Even in these 3 inch heels, I walk a very straight line. And I have a feeling I’m replying to one of these schedule sending messages. At least Mike and I are awake! Ciao, Comrade! πŸ˜€πŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. Welcome back Mike, hope you are refreshed and ready to get back into the old routine. The puzzle was easy this morning, so it must be Monday. I’m off to the library – one of my favorite things to do – hope everyone gets to do their favorite thing also.

    • Thank you, Rita! Everyone living in Florida is truly blessed to have that beautiful sunshine most of the year so I’m glad they saved a little for me. When you say you’re going to the library, it always reminds me to take my books back. I have three that are late — thank goodness we don’t have late fees here. πŸ˜‰

  5. Mike, welcome home!! Once while it was cold in NH, you asked me to send you some rays so I emailed you some AZ rays. When the Jumble cartoon was about fishing, I told you that while deep sea fishing off Mexico, I thought I had hooked a sea bass but it was a huge manta ray that we had to let go. You jokingly asked me what it was with me & rays and then told a wonderful story about deep sea fishing while on vacation in Mexico where your precious son caught a very large sea bass, smiling all the while. Last week we had a Jumble cartoon in which the 2 fishermen were less interested in fishing than in β€œcatching some rays.” Remembering the AZ rays & our fishing stories, I got that one immediately!
Glad to have you back safe & sound, and here’s to more Jumble fun and more fun stories! The first story I’d love to hear is the one entitled, β€œMy Florida Vacation.”
    Enjoy your day!

    • Thank you for the very nice words, Lelia! I have to say you always astound me by remembering EVERYTHING we talk about. I did think of you when it was 97 degrees one day and was wondering how you can take so much heat for most of the year. I guess one could get accustomed to. It’s so nice to be home though, even if I have the pellet stove running on May 1st! Nothing “exciting” happened during our trip other than banking a whole lot of memories. I’m sure I’ll have something to share as the days go on. I hope the sun is shining for you in AZ and Jerry is feeling better. All my best for a wonderful week!

  6. Good morning. Glad to have you back Mike..Hope you had a great time. While you were away Angela did a great fill -in for you. You left it in good hands. Just the thought of having someone take over for a week should have given you a stress free week. For me, today’s puzzle didn’t feel like a Monday. Had to struggle to get all the words and cartoon answer. But it’s done and looking forward to tomorrow. Stay well.

    • Angela is a peach — or should I say apple for filling in. It was indeed nice to have someone else take the reigns, and do an outstanding job! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that had some trouble with today’s puzzle. More difficult than expected but it’s always fun to finish no matter how long it takes. Enjoy your day, Paul. 😊

      • Thanks Mike. I love the apple pie filling in analogy! But I’ll go with the peach. I love peaches, even though I can’t touch them until someone peels them for me! “I’ve always depended on the kindness of strangers..” when I’m shopping for them. HA!
“Um, excuse me. Would you mind picking some peaches for me?” 99% of the time it’s gone well! I’m off to choose new appliances and counter tops! I should be more excited, but I don’t do well with change! Wish me luck! πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Mike, Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Literally! This is so not like shopping for shoes…(In which I’ve turned in many an Oscar worthy performance)! This is no getting them home, twirling a little, changing your mind and returning the little box! These are big boxes! It’s overwhelming! As ridiculously outdated as it may seem, I still like beige. But it’s hardly an option anymore. (I took one of my sisters-in-law with me, and if I hear one more time that I ‘have no taste’, I’ll be having one more sister-OUT-law!-Yes, one MORE)! LOL. I think I’m leaning towards the Classic Slate. GE has some great pieces. Bold, but not too dark, not too light, not too stainless steel! But then, the counter tops. I didn’t like the black/gray, solid gray, solid black…ad nauseam. Ugh! I’m more confused than before. I think I want brown/ beige in here somehow. IDK. And then what about cabinets? God, kill me now! I wish I could share your enthusiasm about this; I didn’t think I’d make it home in one piece! It’s exciting, but a tad daunting so far. I fear I’m suffering a strong case of Renovation Emasculation! πŸ˜”πŸ™‹πŸ»

        Liked by 1 person

      • Oh no!!! My wife had the mindset that everything had to match perfectly as well, but I narrowed everything down to 2-3 options and she could choose from those. We agreed on stainless for the appliances so that was the easy part. I hope your sister-in-law was able to help. Keep us updated. πŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸ»

        Liked by 1 person

      • Maybe not perfect, but matching is key. I had wanted to keep my cabinets though, and now I’m rethinking that. I do like the slate appliances, so maybe I’m going to work around them. IDK! My sister-in-law? Let’s just say I really love my brother, and leave it at that for now! LOL!!! Thanks for asking! Hope your game ⚾️gets better, enjoy the night! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  7. Hi, all! Fun Monday puzzle. First 2 words easy for me, but I paused on that ISLAND and thought of Angela saying something about living on an island. I backed into SWITCH because for some unknown reason, doing the puzzle at 4 a.m. when I got up to take cough med, I knew the cartoon answer without the letters. Loved hearing every word of your solve, as usual, Mike.

  8. Welcome back Mike. Glad you are all rested and refreshed. I got the answer first today and worked backwards. Island and oddly enough agile gave me pause but my brain is now in gear and I can face the day. Sunny and warm here in S.F. Today. Have a happy day everyone.

  9. Welcome back, vacations are great, however, always good to be home. Agile played with my mind today but knowing the answer helped me finally get it. Have a great day! 😊

    • Hi Sue. I’m so glad to see you here today! I sent a shout out post to you late Saturday afternoon, because I realized that you weren’t here all last week. I hope it’s nothing that I said! Last we spoke about Thunder Over Louisville, and then you were gone! I’m happy you’re back, and hope all is well! (And I’m still night-owling it too! πŸ¦‰πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Angela, I had busy week and did not take time to do many posts. Thunder starts busy week; Bed Races were tonight and a silly, but fun event. I don’t do a lot of posts and don’t check in on regular basis, however, things are fine! Take care and catch you later!πŸ‡πŸŒž

      • Hi Sue. I’m so glad you’re well! I read up on the Thunder events and was so impressed. I especially couldn’t get over the fact that it’s never been cancelled, despite any weather condition. That’s amazing. The Derby has always been a dream of mine. No one cared to go besides me! So it’s still on my bucket list! I def do the Belmont Stakes though almost every year, and I’ve been to the Preakness twice. Anyway, I thought maybe tonight I’d get to sleep a little earlier. I really spend too many hours a day awake! But here comes Jimny Kimmel at 11:30, after my local news, and this usually obnoxious comedian gives a monologue while he’s crying. Relating the story of his son being born last Monday, with a heart condition, he tried his best to explain what went on and thank all the medical people involved, and he’s crying. So now, here’s me…I’m bawling! Poor hours old baby getting heart surgery. I’ll never understand life. Anyway, sorry about all this….I just needed to share! Talk about a rude awakening…There but for the grace of God, Ah, enough…So, the Derby! Do you go? Do you have the proverbial Mint Julep? My friends and I watch the race on TV and of course we drink the Mint Juleps! Any excuse! LOL…I’m happy to hear from you, I’m glad your fun busy, and I’m glad you’re well. Good night! β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»
