CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN IT CAME TO WHETHER WORMS OR LURES ATTRACT MORE FISH, IT WAS —

BTLAEBEIAD = “DE-BAIT-ABLE”

Good Thursday morning everyone!  The clue words weren’t overly difficult and I managed to get through them rather quickly without any trouble.  I don’t recall seeing them before so it was refreshing to have new ones.  Moving on to the cartoon, I tried to solve it without the help of the clue letters and all I could come up with was BAIT as one of the four letter words.  As soon as I wrote my letters down and crossed out BAIT, the answer came to me for a quick yet satisfying solve.  The cartoon shows us Jumble artist Jeff Knurek and his friend in a tranquil fishing scene.  Both men had pictures on their shirts so I decided to dive in and get to the bottom of this fishy caper.  Jeff (on the left) has a picture of a man on his shirt that has thick black hair.  The gentleman on the right has what appears to be a fishing vessel on his shirt.  Putting it together, my best guess is that it’s a reference to Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks and the boat from the movie named Jenny.  Another fun detail was the fish in the water.  If you look carefully, you’ll notice that he’s turned to the left and looking at Jeff’s worm seeming to indicate his preference and perhaps solving the duos dispute.  Enjoy your day and I’ll see you tomorrow.  πŸš£πŸ»πŸŸ

  1. Mike, as they say payback is a b***h. Because of the ease of yesterday’s puzzle today’s had me almost all the way. 1,2, 4 were OK, a big stumble on 3 which I never unjumbled or is it dejumbled. But looking at the pic I just knew BAIT had to be one of the answers. Not really sure since I could not get CW #3. So I took a guess and guessed correctly although I did not feel good about it!

  2. (Hope this isn’t a duplicate, had trouble with my password). Just wanted to say how much I love checking in on your right blog everyday. Love your analysis of the cartoon hint & checking the answers & challenges that day. I used to do the crossword daily until my husband took that over, so now do the Jumble. It is great to refer to you-the Jumble Aficionado. You do a wonderful job, keep up the good work. I am now a devoted fan here in Canada

    • Thank you for the very kind words, Mama. It’s nice to hear that I have a fan up north and I’m glad you enjoy my analysis. The true accolades belong to the Jumble creators — but I like to think of myself as their wingman! By looking at the statistics for my blog, I see that we have people stopping by from all over the globe yet they never leave a comment. Canada is the furthest north to leave one so let’s see if anyone can beat it! Enjoy the day! 😊

  3. It was a very fast solve for me today. Loved the cartoon of the fishermen because we used to go fishing a lot. I thought the two men were having a kind of heated yet friendly “debait” because of their raised eyebrows. Our older daughter could put her own worm on the hook when she was only 3. Both daughters asked for their very own tackle box when they were quite young, but rather than ask about the best lures, they picked the prettiest ones.
    Once we took our cabin cruiser 20 miles out into the Sea of Cortez from Rocky Point, Mexico. I hoped that I had hooked a black sea bass, also called a grouper. I insisted on pulling it up by myself for almost an hour, pulled up a huge manta ray, had to cut it loose, and had given myself tennis elbow that required surgery. That’s my fishing story and I’m sticking with it! lol
    Thank you, Mike, for all of your get-well wishes for me when I was under the weather for a few days, hoping that I would get well ASAP and that I was feeling better. Thank you for your comforting words that I appreciate whole-heartedly. Have a wonderful day!

    • That’s a whale of a story, Lelia! There’s just something about you and Rays, isn’t there?! Your comments always bring sunshine to our forum so I thank you. When we were in Mexico last year, we chartered a boat for a day of fishing and it was the most memorable part of our trip. My son who is 8 landed a HUGE sea bass that took at least 20 minutes to reel in. He was all smiles and still talks about it. I’ll share a photo of our excursion when another Jumble comes along having to do with fishing. As always be well and happy wishes from NH! πŸ˜€

  4. Good morning. Bad day today. Had a little trouble with emblem which I believe we had before. Seeing the cartoon answer in quotations got me Depressed right away. Had bait down as one of the words but couldn’t connect. Waited for my friend to call and she was also stumped on the final answer. Took the easy way out and looked for your answer. Oh well,tomorrow is another day. Just loved the fishing stories.

  5. Had no difficulty with the Jumble today. It was fun. Love your analysis. Have my magnifying glass handy now so I can see all the clever items you point out.
