2. You got FASHION…You got Fashion Faux Pas! Faux pas, French for false step. But what we’re seeing here today is more like..I don’t know, maybe…Falling down the whole flight? Can we deFENDI these OUTFITS? We women spend all ARMANI, we want to look good, right? Funny thing, Fashion. Have the WISDOM to get it right, it’s to DYE for, but when you get it wrong, well…There’s the DIOR!
   Today’s words: all reTHREADS, a RUNaWAY. We see the word OFF and with the 1st model saying..”ON”, we got that SEWN up. (Note: The 2nd model is BUTTON in with an important question, CORSET adds to the TRAIN of thought). With the remaining letters in A-LINE, we see WEAR. The question states APPEAL, the Appeal is..”WEARING OFF”! There you have it! Great pun, Jeff, I’m PRADA you! Now, the cartoon. Eye candy first. Way OFF in the background, the model with the scales of justice on her head? I’d be COTTON a lie if I said I didn’t like it! Ok, the models. What are they thinking? “This is so HERMES”, or “I DONNA KARAN what he wants”.! Or maybe even..”What are we, TULLES”? They are so not READY TO WEAR these CLOTHES! And LASTly, the DESIGNER. SEW, with the FEWEST possible guesses, what do you think he’s DRESSed them in? You’re right! PURPLE! The first in Pink and Mauve, the second Purple! And the DRESS and HAT he’s holding? PURPLE! And they’re both blonde!! GUCCI be any more unORIGINAL? He could have gone right OFF THE RACK with all those other beautifully colored dresses HANGing there! GRAFTer all this time, you’d think today, with a FASHION puzzle, that maybe we’d have our women CLAD in something different? Nope, MISSONI Impossible, Ladies!
   SEW, I’m putting some lip BALMAIN, and I’m STRUTting out the DIOR for a RUN. ANKLE weights, VUITTON or OFF…? Off, it’s WEIGH too hot out…

             • I went for a long bike ride with the family after the weather “broke” last night. Still soaking wet after but it was nice to be outside. No end in sight for this either. 😕

             • Your weather “broke”? Not here. We came in off the water around 7, and it was still cloying. My bike’s growing cobwebs! No one will ride with me, and I’d rather have company on a ride. I do the stationary one watching the games..but now, with Judge..?! A lot of hopping on and off! LOL.. 🙋🏻

             • Broke as much as it could after the sun was going down. All I have is a treadmill but I dislike the sound it makes. I’d rather sweat outside than listen to that whirring noise. All of this a/c use is making my chest tight as well — not healthy.

             • LOL..I think that’s why a lot of people wear headsets when they’re on one.
               I’m with you on the a/c. I’d rather none if I could. But it’s been tough without it with the weather we’ve been getting…🙋🏻

3. The skin GRAFT on the model’s ANKLE was “wearing off” and medical WISDOM suggested the FEWEST future procedures.

   Political WISDOM advises against monetary GRAFT but the ANKLE monitors on some ex-office-holders suggest that the honest pols may be the FEWEST.

   No trouble either clue words but II did have to write down the letters to solve.

     • Angela–I also try to avoid political stuff but GRAFT made me think of Boss Tweed and probably only New Yorkers would catch that reference. First sentence made me cringe a little because of ‘my personal experience with them..
       Loved all your puns and it has been hours since I read them and I don’t recall if you Channeled Coco or not If you did forgive me for being Bulgar-i. Sorry.
       Weather up here is humid and sultry but I am enjoying it–even had a bike ride this AM

       • Hi Earl, Good afternoon. I only said that because someone had posted here telling me that this was no place for my “liberal” views! (And Mike knows I’m a Republican)! So, I just made a little political joke, in case whomever it was is still “listening”! LOL…But, I thought the sentence was spot on. Boss Tweed/ Graft..one completes the other, right? As we New Yorkers say! No, I didn’t CHANEL Coco! Foiled again! That’s a great one! Followed up by Bulgari! Trust me, the list was truly endless! I CUT IT DOWN twice. It was just such great MATERIAL to work with. And don’t ever say sorry. If you read above, I told Mike that no one shares my enjoyment for bike riding, so I’m only doing it indoors lately. I miss it. But TBT, not in this weather. (I’m assuming you don’t have the “mop” on your head like I do….literally…After being outdoors in this humidity, I could mop a floor with it)! ROTFL! Ok, this leaves grafts. I’m afraid to ask, but don’t want you to think I didn’t read it. I don’t know what to say…(?) Glad you enjoyed the day. 🙋🏻

       • Hi Earl – We Rhode Islanders knew all about Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall, but I think our corrupt politicians and mobsters were in the same league as New York and Boston, even if the baseball teams weren’t.

6. So many questions about this picture. The model’s question “What is it?” applies to the whole panel. Either Jumble Jeff is expanding his horizons, or he had a nightmare last night. Did the dress designer also do the hairdos, or is that an emoji gone bad?

   And are those poodles in the background doing their little dance on the catwalk, the catwalk? (No, but it took enlarging the picture to see that it’s the audience’s heads).

   Actually, this is pretty much what I expect to see if I open the Chronicle’s Style section on Sundays.

   I think I saw those paper lantern dresses hanging over the bar at “Earl the Beachcombers”! Or it could have been just one too many Mai-Tais.

   Excellent puns today Angela, even if the subject was right in your wheelhouse.

8. Hi, Mike et al! Not an instant answer but an easy one. Mike, I loved your chipper attitude that came through in spite of the oppressive humidity in your area. Good call on the “paper lantern” dress. Great job of pointing out the Jumble dress sounding like the fashion show announcer; you almost convinced me to order one.

9. Hi, Steve! Thanks for No Expectations, a sad song which I enjoyed hearing sung by Brian Jones with the wonderful guitar playing.
   FYI: Sometimes the rat makes me laugh and sometimes I feel that Pastis has gone too far.
   When you mentioned Red Foley’s “Old Shep,” I looked it up & cried, but then I saw one of my favorites taught to me by my dad, The Chatanoogie Shoe Shine Boy. I didn’t know Red sang that or Peace in the Valley, which I also love! Thank you!!
