CARTOON ANSWER:

THE CEMETERY’S NEW SECURITY GUARD WORKED THE —

SHRGDAYFRTAIVE = GRAVEYARD SHIFT

Good Tuesday morning everyone!  The clue words weren’t all that difficult today with ACTIVE causing me to do a slight double take before it finally came into view.  I was excited that I was able to speed through them because after peeking at the cartoon, I knew we were in for a real treat.  The final solution was a quick solve after writing out all of my clue letters and I solved it in a flash.  You probably know by now that I go bonkers for cartoons with tons of detail and Jumble artist Jeff Knurek really stepped up his game today delivering a top-notch masterpiece!  What puts this over the top for me is the fact that it’s set in the dark of night with a barely visible crescent moon in the background.  The guard’s flaslight directs our attention to the gravestone of “IMA PUNSTER” where a bunch of jumbled words are visible giving us a second jumble puzzle for the day — a jumble within a jumble!!!  Deciphering was a breeze and I’ll enhance the stone for those that weren’t able to see it too well in their newspaper.  I can only assume that Jeff drew the looming figure on top of the stone as a tribute to his friend and Jumble partner David Hoyt.  If you look closely, the imagery of the palm to face of the figure is a feeling we can all relate to when we get stumped from time to time.  Zooming in as close as I possibly could, the newspaper that is in front of the statue says “Jumble” on it.  This was without a doubt the most detailed piece of artwork that Jeff has bestowed upon us.  Take a few moments to take it all in as it’ll be awhile before Jeff can surpass this one!  Enjoy your Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow.  πŸ˜€

  1. Mike thank you for the pic, my paper was too blurry on the smaller letters. Liked the puzzle. Must be a Blue Moon as I solved all of it sans pencil and paper! Angela..I would never insult you on here. Always the best intentions. Lots of times text do not translate real emotions.

    • Harry, Good morning. Same here. I’m always telling the kids, watch what you text , because the lack of inflection often leads to misinterpretation…Then I wait while they all have to look up inflection….(Maybe even misinterpretation, who knows)! πŸ˜€πŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. Good morning, Mike,good morning, everyone! Ding,ding,ding….The new JUMBLE-AYA!
My new favorite….a graphic delight. Good scramble of words, but BURY, BURY good cartoon. Easy, breezy solve, the answer so obvious, but so INTERtaining. A total LOL drawing. And, IM A PUNSTER’s gravestone? Ingenious. Major kudos to Jeff this MOURNing! (That’s a groan, I know)! The symbol crying, newspaper in hand, I couldn’t help smiling, despite the GRAVE subject matter. So, here’s my contribution…LISA CARR, Auto Saleswoman. PHYLLIS SOPHICAL, College Professor. NICK AUFTIME, PERPETUAL Procrastinator. (Got a double one in there..)! The list is endless! Once again, it’s a beautiful day here in NY, hope everyone has a great day! πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Mike, Great post. A + for attention to detail and great eyesight! LOL. I do my comment as soon as I’m done, and wait for your Email to copy and paste. I didn’t see the word Jumble, even after 2 cups of coffee, great catch. I knew you were DYING over this puzzle! LOL. πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Mike, In all sincerity, big shoes to fill. I’d totally enjoy doing it, but I don’t think I could without a Word Press account. You know I finish the puzzle at the crack of dawn, but I can’t post until you do. That’s why I do my comment and wait for yours. I like noting the similarity in our take on the puzzles. My family’s big on saying, “Mediocre minds think alike”. LOL πŸ˜ƒNothing demeaning at all, I’m SO NOT calling you mediocre! We’re just we’re big on stressing the importance of not raising egotists! Im figuring you have a template that you use or something? I’m not the most computer savvy individual! πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • No savvy needed, Angela! Just download the app (I use my iPad but a pc works just fine) and log in. I’ve given you editing rights so you’ll be all set. Just click “new post” at the bottom it’ll bring up a blank word processing document. You can fill it in like I do or have fun with it for the week. It’ll be an honor to have a guest contributor! If you have any trouble, I can always post later in the day. When you hit submit it goes to our 750 subscribers and you can’t undo it once it’s sent. No pressure just let me know! 😊

      • Hey Mike, I just got back. I ran out at 10, and had a ton of things to do. So, no pressure? The man says, No pressure? HA! It’s akin to auditioning for Wheel of Fortune! We play so well sitting on the couch, but getting up in front of a live audience? “Yeah, right”, as we say in Brooklyn! LOL. I won’t be home tonight, (we have to finish the leftovers…and then we all make appointments to check our cholesterol and A1C levels)! so, I’ll re-read this later to see if it sinks in. Daunting task! I thank you for the opportunity. And no, nothing from Word Press so far. Ok, have to do one more…(hope you don’t mind)… MIKE RAFONE, Audio Engineer. (Italian guy from the old neighborhood)! πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Steve, HA! “You slay me”! (Now where’s that from)? Grasshopper? The only grasshopper I’m familiar with comes chilled in a cocktail glass! Yes, I hear the water, I hear the birds, I’m hearing the nervous beating of my heart! LOL. And as for over lord, over lady, how about OVERwhelmed! Can’t even think about it yet. Check y’days page, I sent you 2 responses. Thanks so much for the link. Gotta run. Can’t find a grasshopper emoji. You’ll have to do with this. Later, gave a great day! πŸ›πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Hey Steve. I was in such a rush with those last posts, I screwed up the syntax (Typos too). The question didn’t refer to Grasshopper as you realized, it was about the phrase…”(Cause) You slay me”. Where’s that from? Did you check the posts from 4/17? I wanted you to know I really enjoyed the article and the play list was awesome. I wondered if it ended at #37 Thanks again for the link. πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Morning, Angela – posting on 4/19

It wasn’t the syntax, it was when you said that the only Grasshopper you knew was the cocktail, which I took at face value.

If you remember “you slay me” from “St. George and the Dragon-net” by the late brilliant Stan Freberg, then you have a good memory *and* good taste:

Yep, the Chronicle’s playlist ends at 37. The anniversary lineup leaves me cold when you look at the original — The Animals, The Mommas and the Poppas, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Who — Wow! That will never be recreated.

My favorite Mommas and Papas video — “Straight Shooter”

        Cheers!

  3. Good morning. This was another Monday theme. Words were easy and the cartoon answer was an instant solve. Your picture was a lot clearer. Looking at the paper with a Magnifying glass I did not pick up on the jumbled letters on the stone. Thank you for pointing that out. Cute idea. Made me appreciate the drawing that much more. Till tomorrow stay well.

  4. Anne Teak and Claire Buoyant! I am not getting the close up I used to get when I could get it on my phone and magnify it. Never would have seen the jumble on the gravestone.

  5. Just noticed Chicago Tribune let’s you magnify it one time. “She knew she would drown” and “she was very old” Yes, this was the best detailed Jumble I have ever seen. Statues way in back along with a mausoleum.

  6. Fun puzzle this morning. I had the cartoon answer first and worked backwards. Jeff really outdid himself with the drawing. – really clever. Thanks for all your observations, Mike. My paper is pretty good but sometimes the fine points of the cartoon aren’t really clear. For some reason on Saturdays, the drawing is smaller than on the other days of the week. Guess that’s an editorial decision. We’re still having rain showers in the Bay Area. Hoping for some sunshine soon. Have a good day everyone.

  7. Hi, Mike, just got your comment and no, you did not miss Josh last night. Last night were Teams Blake & Alicia and tonight are Teams Gwen & Adam. Josh will perform tonight with Team Adam and hopefully make it to the Final 12!!! Fingers crossed!! Thanks for every vote tonight!!
Thank you for your picture today allowing us to enjoy the cartoon. I finished online at 1:46 but spent way more time than that looking at the detail-filled cartoon picture. I liked it that under ANNE TEAK it said, “She Was Very Old.” That struck me as funny, dry humor.
Enjoy your day!! See you tomorrow.

  8. Hey everyone! I’m a newbie, having just started JUMBLES around three months ago and “Stumbled”, (rhymes with jumbled, lol), upon Mike’s entertaining and insightful blog. I knew I had to subscribe after Jeff’s and David’s last jumble, Graveyard shift. Kudos and highest Props for the artwork and fun detail, Jeff! I didn’t see anyone mention that it was filled with a BASKET FULL of Easter eggs, ( as Mike calls them). especially after Easter….
I’m glad to be a part of the JUMBALIA!
have a great Vcay Mike and best of luck Angela
