Good morning, Everyone! POKER!…”GameΒ ofΒ Thrones“?
🎢”You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away and know when to run. You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table, there’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done…”🎢

Jeff at the Auction, Jeff at the Casino…Jeff…The gIFT that keeps on GIVING! We’ll get back to Jeff, FIRST our words: “IFT”? 🎢”IFT I didn’t care, more than words can say, IFT I didn’t care, would I feel this way…”?🎢 ( Sorry, I just couldn’t resIFT)! Β Now this is a GIFT! IF’T this has ever happened before, I sure don’t remember! Two words ending in “IFT”? Did you also stop for second and think…”Huh, really? Am I spelling this right”? Well, BET your bottom DOLLAR, you are! SWIFT and SHIFT! Like Jeff..He SWIFTly SHIFTed his money right across that POKER table! How BRAZEN! (Oh, right, not now…ADVENTually we’ll get to him). I’ve a HUNCH that Brazen may be a FIRST, but I won’t BET on it. The other three words? CHECK βœ”οΈ, we’ve SEEn them before. Our cartoon: We find ourselves at the JUMBLE Casino (Aside to Earl…”Wink, wink”)! We see 3 slot machines against the wall, a POKER table SET for 6, and 1 man already out. (To the curious out there, “No, I just like numbers…”, To the courageous out there, “Hey, you never know”! To the GAMBLERS out there, “Hmm, it’s WORTH a shot…”)…But keep in mind, I may be BLUFFING!…HA! The ACTION’s at the POKER table. A DEALER sits farthest left, FACING us. The two men in the foreground, having those distinctive looks that Jeff gives to “real” people, seem pleased. One, is wearing a JUMBLE cap and the other HOLDS that WINNING PAIR of ACES. I’ll AGGRO out on a limb here, and say looking at that serious STACK of CHIPS in front of him, somebody, “SOMEBODY” lost some serious money! Show of HANDS, (no pun intended)!…who thinks IFT’s Jeff? Yep, me TWO! The dialogue: Jeff’s breaking the NEWS to his wife that he took that PAIR of KINGS, went ALL-IN, and lost. I guess he VIGured the KINGS would be enough, but It’s OVERs for him. The WINNER says it “was quick”. This GAME just OPENED, it was the “FIRST HAND”, and there’s our solve! How JUICEy was this dialogue? And the cartoon, Β just DRAWn to PURSEfection? Guys, I RAISE my 🍷 glass to you! Ok, LAST TO ACT, the eye candy? I’m going to CALL it for the WINNERs shades. They’re so FLASHy!
So, that’s a WRAP, Folks. I really enjoyed this. I like POKER, and I can HOLD my own. I am stubborn, though…I mean, I hate to even FOLD my laundry! And then there’s always..”OMAHArd earned money”!
Have a great day, Everyone! It’s Friday, time to GET AWAY! πŸƒ πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Good morning,Moose. Ah, you should have given it a little more PLAY, you could have SCORED! Great puzzle! Game last night? They benched my boy, so I wasn’t that INVESTed in it. One thing for sure, though. The RISP? Not too much of a problem last night, huh? You gotta get on base FIRST! πŸ˜‚
Thunder and lightning and dark here…Perfect day for some POKER!
      Enjoy! πŸƒπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • I switched over to the Red SAWX game. More action.
Sunny here at the moment, got some outdoor work done. Have a great day, and play it STRAIGHT.

        • Outdoors? More power to you! I just got back in from reading to the kids at the library. You open the door and it’s like entering Hades! The humidity kills me! Remember the “good old days”, when we had the thunderstorms and then the air got cooler? HA! Not anymore! The Sox are in it to win it…They played a good game. Me? ALWAYS play it STRAIGHT..(and close to the vest)… Wishing you a great day too…βšΎοΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

  1. The BRAZEN ADVENT drove a standard SHIFT car but he was a SWIFT convert to the hands-free models hitting the high-ways.
Must admit to hitting the dictionary to see if ADVENT could be anything other than a proper noun and I found the definition I could use as well as assurance that it did not need a capital letter.
Solution had me spinning for quite a while–a real challenge today as well as not getting an e-mail again??
Learnt never to go to the casinos again Angela after being in the same position as today’s playerπŸ˜– 😭 πŸ˜‘πŸ‘Ž

  2. Good morning, Earl. Your imagination once again amazes me! You really INVEST yourself in these words! The solve may have stumped a few others also. The numbers showed a lot of people waiting for the post this morning. Advent to me is always the tiime before Christmas…despite knowing its definition. The Catholic in me! LOL..Earl, try checking your Spam/Junk folder. That’s where mine was today. And like I said y’day, I’m writing it! Weird! As for the Casino? Notice I gave you a shout out in my post? SEE it? Funny that you used the word y’day! (And you’re a smart man..”You GOTTA know when to fold ’em”).
So, on a personal note. My friends are just leaving for Lake George. Going to the Sagamore Resort. And then next week they’ll meet us at Saratoga. Ever been to the Sagamore? Sooo beautiful. IFT I didn’t have obligations here for the weekend, I’d be right in that car! But we’re going again in the Fall, so I’m not THAT upset.
Anyway, I’ll look into the Emails.i hope I can help. πŸƒπŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Guess I get over-anxious about the e-mail. It arrived just as I was finishing up the laundry.
Have fun in the North Country and yes I have been to Sagamore and a couple of the other ” great camps” Got to visit them when I worked summers in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, and that word does not describe the weather up here today. Guess I’ll have to hunker down and enjoy an indoor Friday. Being smart or intelligent is not always an indicator of being able to resist temptation. Nuff said.

      • Ok, glad you got it. Y’day, I posted it at 7:48, and I got it around 4PM! Today, as I said it came immediately, but went into my Junk folder! WT? Who knows. NY is so much more than “down here”. People just don’t know. Last year was my first time at the Sagamore Resort, and I fought tooth and nail to stay! LOL..I would have passed on Saratoga. I’m looking forward to going back there in the Fall. I’m sure it’ll be amazing with the foliage. I’ve done Saratoga so many times, and just y’day I was reading about the horse deaths already. It unnerves me. But I’m looking forward to getting there, so much besides the racing alone. Sun’s out here now, hopefully it’s headed your way. You said you “never go to the casinos again”. Once bitten, twice shy. To me, a smart move. And then, there’s Oscar Wilde…”I can resist everything except temptation”…I figure I’m not alone…!!! πŸ˜‚ You always make me smile!….Enjoy the day! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. At first glance puzzle looked as if would give me problems. Surprisingly, it fell into place rather quickly! Cloudy here with more thunderstorms on the way! Have a great day! β›…πŸŒˆπŸŒž

    • Good morning, Sue. First hand knowledge is a common phrase. First hand news, not so much. But it wasn’t that bad a solve, right? Surprisingly, the sun’s beginning to come out here. I can get out from under the bed! The strangest weather..
Great day to you also! πŸƒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. The answer came more swiftly than I thought once I found hand. Never played the game. Wishing all a good weekend.

    • 🎢Sweet Caroline🎢, Good morning. Never too late to try any kind of game though, right? πŸ˜‰ Puzzle was a cute solve with a little twist. Perfect Friday fare! Good weekend to you also! πŸƒπŸ™‹πŸ»

        • Great song, right, Moose? I don’t know if you’re a Big Bang Theory fan, but the episode where Howard and Amy discover their shared love of Neil Diamond? Kills me every time! Howard with the salute? And the Karaoke? Classic! I’ve seen Neil Diamond in concert; that boy still has the Brooklyn in him! Stay cool! πŸŽΆπŸ™‹πŸ»

        • Hey Moose, Cleaning out my Emails, looking to put this baby to bed, and..BOOM..It went right by me!…KING OF DIAMONDS! 🎢” I AM, I SAID…”🎢, so sorry! See you t’row…β™¦οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

  5. I’m not a card player but cute puzzle and an easy solve. I too don’t think I’ve ever used advent in a sentence other than referring to the time before Christmas. Happy Friday everyone.

    • Hey Betty. Yes, it was! I enjoyed it. Advent, yep, Christmas! And since Jumble never uses proper names in its puzzle words, I was glad to go with ADVENTually! LOL..It was ADVENTageous for me! Hope you’re enjoying your day! πŸƒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  6. Hi All – Got the answer backwards today; first NEWS, then HAND, then FIRST last.
    ADVENT was the only pause.

Two things about previous puzzles (“stuck in the past”? Moi?):

If Dracula was dealing, it would have been the perfect time for ALUCARDs again.

And reconsidering yesterday’s drawing, I realized the real reason that nobody bought the artwork. If they had, the auctioneer would have had to lower his gavel to complete the sale.

Hope you have a sunny weekend.

  7. Hey Steve. A solve is a solve, right? I’ll give you ALUCARD, the dealer did have a sinister look about him. And something about his sleeve was bugging me too. Maybe a card up there? But the reason for the SALE FAIL? Gavel or no gavel, that POORtrait was a (Van) Goooo from the start! πŸ˜‚ 🎢”Sunny day, Sweepin’ the clouds away…”🎢 πŸƒπŸ™‹πŸ»

    • You are too kind about my dredging up the past.
That portrait was surely a Van No-Gooo.
However, I can assure you from long experience, neither of our pronunciations of that would be accepted by my wife, who always corrects me to the Dutch pronunciation which of course sounds like “gargling soup”. πŸ˜‚πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

      • Yes, thank you, I am kind! πŸ˜‰ You want pronunciations? You Tube it! There’s a plethora! It’s all up in the EAR!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ πŸ™‹πŸ»

  8. Hi, all! Easy solve for me today. While a newlywed, I enjoyed learning to play penny ante poker with Jerry’s relatives & friends. No big winners or losers using pennies. A few years ago I gathered a shiny penny collection & taught grandkids to play. Oldest one said we should be wearing visors, so I bought some & made her smile when I took them out at her next birthday party at my house before we played a few hands with my penny collection. Enjoy your weekend!

    • Hi Lelia, Seems everyone had an easy go of it today. Nice puzzle to close out the week. My Mother always did the same thing with her grandchildren, played card games with bags of pennies. The kids always looked forward to it, and it made a lot of memories, as you’re doing. It’s nice. Hope you’re enjoying your day! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  9. Steve, your write-up about an art critic actually eating the paintings is hilarious! He preferred Rubens sensual paintings to Utrillo’s cityscapes and his Vermeer indoor scenes ended up where Jerry’s spaghetti sauce always lands, down his shirt. Also hilarious, your today’s comment about the lowering of the gavel.
Jerry Garcia, only 53 when he died! Tried to find him singing Touch of Grey but only found it being sung by Grateful Dead skeletons.
    Happy Friday!

    • Hi Lelia – I hoped you’d like that. You do know that Reuben is also the name of a sandwich, right? That’s what makes the skit extra funny!
And you got the right “Touch of Gray” – it’s a Grateful Dead song, one of their biggest hits, strangely enough, at that late stage of their career.
I will now go back to my nap — See you tomorrow!
