CARTOON ANSWER:

THE NEWLY-HATCHED, WORM-LIKE BABY BEETLE NEEDED CLEANING BECAUSE IT WAS SO – – –

B Y BR UG = GRUBBY

Happy Tuesday everyone! When you hear the word ‘grub’ it’s safe to say a cute picture like the one Jumble Jeff drew for us doesn’t pop into your head. They’re the larvae of beetles — with dark red-heads, black mandibles and white bodies in the shape of a ‘C.’ When my son was keeping bees a few years ago we decided to skip our lawn treatments in fear that the chemicals would harm them. BIG MISTAKE! The area in our yard where he kept his hive became infested with grubs, and the damage they caused in just one life cycle is still visible to this day. We did get some delicious honey though!

SMYUT is the only anagram that’s been previously used. Digging deep, I found it used in one other puzzle back in April of 2011. The clue words they morphed into were tried and true favorites, but none of them slowed me down. An extra blink to see GONLUE was my only delay so it’ll be my pick for today’s hardest anagram.

Adorable cartoon of a mom cradling her love bug! The wording of the cartoon sentence made it obvious to me that the baby beetle was a grub. At first glance I thought the structure in the background was a house, but the roof had no pitch. My best guess is that it’s either a beehive or a tool shed. The most unique detail I noticed was the finger count of the parents — dad’s hands had three and mom’s had two.

The final solve was short, sweet and easy to complete. The visual clue of the dirty baby and the double B’s in the layout made it effortless. On to tomorrow! Until then, be well and enjoy the day.

I was a little SCARAB but overcame the fear……………..
Still hot but going a little cooler tomorrow here. Dodgers keep winning as do the Giants. What a conundrum, eh?
    Did Ringo play the conunDRUMS?
Signing off for the night I remain MIG!!!!

  4. Good Morning, Everyone. 🐛 BEETLE LOOSE? 🐛

    🎶 Shine little GLOW-WORM…glimmer, glimmer….Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer….Lead us lest too far we wander…Love’s sweet voice is calling yonder…🎶 “Glow-Worm” – The Mills Brothers 1953 https://tinyurl.com/uh9edzcd

🐛The HABIT of this little grub is to play in the dirt,
He gets himself all MUSTY…the little larva squirt…
No way he’d be a FIBBER, ‘cause the proof is in the pudding,
And anyway, he squirms around… with this guy there’s no footing…
He’ll get a bath now, and he’ll LOUNGE…(we hear this from the Hubby)…
And he’ll then be a “glow” worm …’til the next time he gets GRUBBY…🐛🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Over the years, the LOUNGE had become MUSTY and GRUBBY, but when the janitor told them it was their fault, with their constant HABIT to be sloppy, the entire committee called him a FIBBER…🤷🏻‍♂️

🙇🏻‍♂️ The woman was a FIBBER, a HABIT she need break,
She’d LOUNGE around the MUSTY club, one always on the take…
The others all felt sorry for her poor long-suffering hubby…
And wondered why he stayed with her…she just was so damn GRUBBY! 🙇🏻‍♂️

  6. Good morning. Monday part 2. Breezed through the words and cartoon answer. I glowed from delight but not from a blind solve. Thank goodness for short answers. Who could not love the Mills brothers. Thanks for that one Angela. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  7. Here’s one to to those grubs that eat up the lawn!

Said the parents to the new-born spawn
We’ll make sure that the dirt is all gone
So it’s grub in the tub,
    For a really good scrub
Before we put you to work on the lawn!

    • Hi Helen…

🐛 Little larva is giving them grief,
But they take it as comic relief…
      He’s a grub…bottom line,
His life is one of slime…
So why bother with making a beef? 🐛

🐛 Beetle larva will give us a grub,
And today we see this little stub…
      He’s covered in dirt
      But whatever it’s worth…
Keeping him clean? Well now there’s the rub! 🐛

  8. A 100 % instant solve on the anagrams and the cartoon,w so few letters,a ready clue, and an obvious blind solve, even on a Tuesday morning.

  9. I’ll have to CC Paul this morning…what he wrote is exactly my Tuesday morning Jumble comments.

  10. Hi all,
I’m a little late to the conversation (alright maybe a lot late) but I agree today’s jumble was an easy solve, not a blind solve, but for me, easier than yesterday. And I believe thanks to learning here to pay closer attention to the clue with the picture, as well as the picture! I’m always impressed with everyone’s knowledge and creativity here and it brings a smile to my day. I did have to look up the word SCARAB from Mig’s reply though. I thought I knew what it meant, but it’s always good to check. So I enjoyed Mig’s (formerly Tarzan) reply. I remain Jane. P.S. – Let’s go (hurry up!) Mets!! ⚾

    • Hi Jane. I’m glad to hear that you like what you see and that you’ve been able to pick up a few pointers from our conversations. It quiets down around midday — and even sooner if the puzzle is easy. Thanks for taking the time to let us know how your solve went. Mig is a magician with words, isn’t he??? Be well. 🙂
