  1. Happy Thursday everyone! After a long, grueling day at work, there’s nothing better than changing into your sweats, flicking on the television, and relaxing on your couch. Or is it sofa? I noticed in today’s cartoon that the words “couch” and “sofa” were both used interchangeably, and I wasn’t quite sure what the difference was between the two. Google informs me that “couch” comes from the French verb “coucher,” which means “to lie down.” Sofa, on the other hand, comes from the Arabic word “suffah,” which is “a wooden bench covered in blankets and cushions.” All the articles that I read seem to agree that it’s perfectly acceptable to use the two words interchangeably, and a “couch” is generally a casual “comfort-driven” piece of furniture, while a “sofa” is a more formal “design-driven” piece. The Jumble is always teaching me something new!

There weren’t any surprises when it came to our clue words. All of them have been previously used, but three of the anagrams were new. NEURON took me forever to solve, so it’ll definitely be my pick for today’s hardest anagram. I haven’t had a word stump me like that in quite some time. It was actually quite enjoyable! I checked my commentary from the last time it was used and I had just a hard time then as I did today.

Today’s cartoon brings us to a furniture store where we see a couple of Jumble characters relaxing on a couch. The salesman offers to show them other pieces, but their dialogue indicates that they’ve found the perfect one. There were five other pieces of furniture in the background. My favorite was the Eames lounge chair in the left corner near the window. It was also the only piece of furniture with visible tufting dots. I also noticed that each of the pieces had a price tag hanging off of them, but no prices were given.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 12 letters. Five of them were vowels and seven were consonants. Even though the layout was quite cryptic, I easily got SITTING from the visual clue of the couple sitting on their new sofa. The rest of the solve came naturally to polish it off.

Just an FYI: It’s finally VACATION TIME, and yours truly will be heading south for a couple of weeks starting tomorrow. We decided to extend the length of our stay by a few days since we didn’t go anywhere last year (for obvious reasons.) The answers, as always, will still be posted. Be well, talk soon and KEEP JUMBLING!!!

  2. In my reality NEURON was a tassle for a short time, even with my science background.
None of the other anagrams bothered me, nor did the J solution. I expect we will now lose Mike until Monday, which is our loss!
We in Cally may get some precipitation during the next few days but not enough to cancel our drought.
    Have fun and keep Jumbling!!!!!

  3. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well…🛋 🙋🏻‍♀️

🛋 To get a brand new sofa, Rocket Science it don’t take,
A NEURON, one of many in your brain need not awake…
You want cushions that will fit TIGHT, yet not feel like cement,
And any SLANT you look out for…or money’s not be spent
So shopping wisely…keep in mind, ICONIC stores are key,
Don’t waste your time with other joints, ‘cause quality’s not free
A bargain buy, you may end up with slouch and even splitting…
Stick with a name that’s proven…you’ll then be sold IN ONE SITTING! 🛋

  4. HAPPY EARTH DAY, EVERYONE! 🌎🙋🏻‍♀️

🔬 Visiting the ICONIC lab, he was fascinated by the SLANT the scientists took on the NEURON theory, and realized that with their precise and TIGHT instruction, he’d be able to complete the lesson IN ONE SITTING…🔬

📚 His schedule is pretty TIGHT, but he’s worked out a SLANT,
He’ll read about the NEURON, for as long as time will grant…
And then he’ll concentrate on the ICONIC battles fought,
Hopefully by the time he’s done, some spare time he’d have bought
The courses that he’s chosen, he’s hoping will prove befitting…
‘Cause this semester he def needs to get through IN ONE SITTING! 📚

  5. No problems with the puzzle today! Added another inch of snow overnight! ❄️ Probably the last of it. Supposed to hit 80 degrees next week. One extreme to the other! Have a good Thursday!

        • Thanks Kim. I left you a reply yesterday in ref to the OMOTM. I don’t know if you saw it or not. Talk soon!

          • Yes I saw it today! Very coincidental about the Old Man! And I had never heard of the company in Norrisville, so gave it a Google! Hope you and your son can go this summer! Hope you are well on your way South by now!

  6. NEURON was an absolute toughie today…had to back it in after the Jumble solve. After mulling over the puzzle, we discovered SITTING….and the rest fell into place.

  7. Good morning. I was stuck on Neuron and had to look up the word. The rest and the cartoon answer was a breeze. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  8. Neuron gave me a very hard time too. I tried everything I could think of, including the Re and Un prefixes, but nothing worked. Finally my memory came through and I recalled the word from previous Jumbles. Wishing all a happy Earth Day.

  9. A Neuron wound Tight danced in the night toward an Iconic but twisted Slant in my brain. Best I could do In One Sitting today. Sneezing and water eyes tell me Spring has sprung on the Great Plains.

  10. Neuron gave me pause to check on its spelling but otherwise was a quick solve along w the other anagrams.Even the cartoon solution was obvious with in and one grouped together in the array of letters, and the men “sitting” on the sofa.
No additional snow here, but another night of sub freezing temps.

  11. 🌎 Happy Earth Day everyone! 🌍

Arm & Hammer is giving away free tree seedlings to the first 20,000 people that request them! After they’re all spoken for, the next 155,000 folks will receive a free wildflower seed card. I thought it was very generous of them to give them away for free. Here’s the LINK to claim one if you’re interested.

  12. Another vote for neuron here. I kept thinking “reunion” Had to back into it after solving the cartoon answer which really wasn’t difficult. Happy Earth Day to all! 🌎

  13. Hi all – Using IC as a suffix showed ICONIC quickly. Using UN as a prefix didn’t work (unless you consider Carson City UN-RENO), but I then saw the word.
“ON THE CUSHION” fit the answer layout but didn’t work. It took me several tries. I couldn’t figure out what the second word would be, but I finally saw the ING combo which gave SITTING and the rest.

My NEURONS aren’t firing for a sentence, so I’ll just send the usual good wishes to everyone.
