Happy Wednesday everyone! Has anyone else noticed that all of the puzzles this week have had at least one clue word with a “Z” in it? On Monday we had PLAZA, Tuesday brought us AMAZE and now today we have HAZARD. I was going to mention it yesterday, but thought it was just a coincidence. Since the pattern seams to keep repeating, my best guess is that David is on the prowl for some new clue words. He may not have found any new ones using the Z’s, but he did strike gold today with NINJA! It was also the only word that I didn’t notice straight away so I’ll go ahead and make it my choice for today’s hardest anagram.
Sweet cartoon of a young child spending some quality time with his Grammy and Grandpa. The dialogue got me to thinking about all of the different names that we use when referring to our Grandparents, and I’d bet a lot of you have some pretty unique ones! There were quite a few details to spot in today’s panel. My favorite one was the family portrait on the bookshelf. Although Jeff left the faces blank, I was able to count nine circle “heads” in the frame. It also had two seagulls flying in the air and some water in the background so I’d assume the photo was professionally taken. Just below it was a small figurine of what appeared to be a smiling clown with an umbrella. Both junior and Grandpa were wearing knitted sweaters so I’d say Grandma must have quite a few loyalty points down at the local craft store! Her knitting basket had five balls of yarn and one additional one on top that she’s working with. The tiniest detail had to be the small flower design on her slippers.
The final solve was a GIGANTIC anagram containing 13 letters. Five of the letters were vowels while the remaining eight were consonants. HAND was quite obvious after noticing the child only having one mitten on in the cartoon. OLD was spotted next and the rest slowly, but surely fell neatly into place. Have a wonderful Wednesday, and keep Jumbling!

🥷 Having been the one to LADLE out the training needed for a NINJA from the BOTTOM up to the neighborhood kids for years, he’d become such AN OLD HAND AT IT, that he guaranteed the parents there’d be no HAZARD involved…🥷

Since once he started cooking, he was well into a groove…
He stirred soup from the BOTTOM of the huge pot on the stove,

I had found this site, it seems like a year ago, but only a month ago, did I happen to scroll down further and see a little “community spirit” going on here! It’s nice and very creative, because I see very elaborate poems, then I look at the times posted and it’s 7:00 a.m! Plus or minus an hour or two! Which is very impressive! Good morning. Now this cartoon answer was brilliant. I really enjoyed doing both parts today. The five letter words took longer to get than the instant six letter ones. The cartoon answer I put aside and finished my cereal and when I returned it was like snap crackle and pop, I picked up on Hand and the rest followed. Still trying to figure out how so many had gotten yesterday’s and I’m still in the dark. Oh well. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
Good Morning, Paul. I’m not sure I’m following you when you say you’re still in the dark. It’s not all that mysterious if you break it down by the clues. The couple, obviously unaware that they walked into a restaurant that caters to ghouls and monsters, became nervous when they looked around. And what’s being offered on the menu isn’t exactly the type of fare they’re used to, either. And if you look at their faces, they’re AFRAID So…the entire ATMOSPHERE unnerves them…and they want to leave..Because…They didn’t like the ATMOS-FEAR. It’s really a very GHOUL, clever solution!…I hope this helps. 🧛🏻🙋🏻♀️
Oh my God. A real brain freeze. Now you’re making me take back what I said yesterday. It finally clicked when you explained it for me and I see it so clearly. That being said, I think my battleship was sunk. It was a brilliant answer. I’m checking the Dictionary for atmos and can’t get why so many got it, not knowing it was a play on atmosphere DUH. Lol.

I also checked on whether ninja was an acceptable word.Given the go ahead on that,and the obvious choice of ‘hand’ for the 4 letter word ,and ‘old’ for the sweet gramma,the cartoon solution fell into place.
Hi all – It took me a few jumbles to see NINJA. (I first saw “Jinnah”, an early Pakistan politician – go figure.) The answer was obvious. Interesting (to me) that the double letter trick worked twice in the same word for BOTTOM.

My grandmother’s salt and pepper shakers weren’t used, they were just displayed as curios throughout the house, including the living room. I used to love looking at and playing with all of them.
It’s a cartoon?! 😂 Uh, yes. But I know you know what I mean. It just doesn’t hold true to Jeff’s pattern. And the MSG always held her umbrella much further up on the shaft, with the parasol kind of encasing her back. There’s so many differences. Just sayin’. But who knows, it very well could just be a total caricature of her. I mean I did think so too, at first glance. But, then again…this could all just be pointless!! 😉 And the shakers as curios? I never heard of that …seams like there’s a few holes in that story! 😂 Ok. Enough of this, I guess. I’m starting to yarn…💤💤! 😂🧶🙋🏻♀️

Everything fell into place nicely this morning. I took up knitting when I found out I was going to be a Grandma and felt I needed to do something Grandmotherly. It’s been a fun hobby and a real life saver during the pandemic: blankets, hats scarves. I thought it was so funny that the teacher who made those mittens for Bernie Sanders received requests from all over the country to make more mittens. She could probably have a whole new career.
Hi Betty. I so envy you. I give you props..I think I told you how both my Grandmother and my Mother tried teaching me to knit and crochet. They both did beautiful work…But being a leftie, and with this left-right disorientation/confusion that I have😉?…I could never get the hang of it. I’m lucky I didn’t take out an eye! 😂 And I’d love to be able to do it. But the Bernie phenomenon? Amazing. And the woman’s such a talent. I threw a few hints around at my Birthday, that I’d like one of the little dolls…but no one bit. But I’d love to have one…so I may end up on Etsy. 🧶🤷🏻♀️
Angela, when I learned to knit, they taught the English method where the working yarn is held in the right hand. The more current method is the Continental method where the working yarn is held in the left hand and it actually lends itself to left handed people. So it may not be too late for you after all. 🧶
Hi Betty. I’m not at all familiar with the different methods, and have no idea what my Grandmother and Mother were trying to teach me. My Grandmother learned to knit and crochet as a child in Italy, and she always spoke of being taught by the nuns, so I think it may be safe to say it was neither of these methods! 😂 But try as I may, they both told me that I was doing it all “backwards”. I heard a lot of “storta”! 😂🤦🏻♀️ But when you say “they”, taught, who are you referring to? Did you take a class?
Yes, I actually learned to knit when I was a Girl Scout. I suspect that was the way your grandmother and mother knit. You hold the yarn in your right hand and “throw it over the left needle. I have taken classes as an adult and that’s when I learned that the more popular way to knit these days is what is called the Continental method where you use your left had to hold the yarn rather than the right. One of the ladies in my knitting class was left handed and she found it so much easier to knit that way. I’m totally right hand dominant so it doesn’t work for me but I really think you should check it out, perhaps those dominant genes will surface …. or leave you in stitches??
