  1. Happy Thursday everyone! Roughly 44 million U.S. households rented their homes last year. That’s nearly 36% of the population! The housing market is booming right now so I’m kind of surprised they even found a listing that offered both options. Although we don’t know the reasoning behind their decision, I’m glad they’ve agreed to reevaluate their choice in about a year. The average U.S. home increased in value by $20,587 last year so they won’t want to drag their feet too long!

    All of the anagrams solved with relative ease. The triple “E’s” of EMCEE made it my choice for the hardest word. After zipping through them I noticed that all of the solved words were arranged in alphabetical order. And the fun didn’t quite stop there. FORTY just happened to spell out in alphabetical order too!

    It looks like this couple is only moments away from making one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Noticeably missing were wedding rings on either of their fingers so that’s probably why they’ve decided to lease. The home listing on the computer screen was the main focus of the cartoon. I especially liked the cross hatch bay window and the well-maintained landscaping of the home that they chose.

    The final solve was an anagram consisting of 11 letters. It had eight consonants and only three vowels. It was interesting to note that all of the vowels were E’s. With “RENT” not being mentioned anywhere in the puzzle I figured it would show up somewhere in the solution. With those letters crossed out, PREFER came after a delay of a minute or two.   3. Got the anagrams OK but the solution eluded me.
    Quotation marks, ya know?
    Still a fun middle of the week J and who knows what tomorrow will bring????
    Dodgers looking pretty good in spring training. Unlike when I was a young fan they have a hell of a pitching staff! Go Blue!!!!

    🎤 Despite her many years as the voice of the ROTARY Club, they considered her a little too soft-SPOKEN to be the EMCEE of the Top-FORTY show, since their PREFERENCE was a deeper male voice…🎤

    📞The show about nostalgia, the EMCEE had to know,
    The different things that were the norm, lo many years ago…
    Like phone calls that were SPOKEN through phones of ROTARY,
    And other things most common to those wayyyy over FORTY
    The radio and TV shows…both funny and suspense…
    And that is why an older sort was much more their PREFERENCE…📞

    🏠 The clue to solving this one…of course look for what’s not said,
    We’re reading “lease” and “buying”…but the “other” word instead?
    The EMCEE of this puzzle has not SPOKEN that key word,
    And you know you must always look for what you haven’t heard
    No turning as a ROTARY, no FORTY minutes spent…
    ‘Cause if these Folks ain’t buying? Def tells us they “PREFER-RENTS”! 🏠

  7. Quotes almost always get me and so they got me again this morning, as far as the cartoon solution.Anagrams went well even “emcee”.We’re working on our arks here in Illinois as we’re in for a second straight day of a deluge.

    • Wish you could send some of that rain our way, Chuck. Our rainfall is 42% of normal and the weather folks are starting to use the dreaded “D” word again. Keep that umbrella handy.🌂

      • Hi Professor…This comes up every once in a while, and we’ve addressed it before. And it’s so unfounded since we’ve had many a word where “Y” wasn’t used as the ending. Just off the top of my head…
        HYENA
        TYRANT
        CYNIC
        CANYON
        LAWYER
        ABYSS
        BYLAW
        …And we’ve had many more. Plus this person should keep in mind, that David never claimed to create words…he simply uses them in his puzzles. And that’s Y 😉 it’s sort of an inane question. 🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. Good challenge this morning. Rotary is the anagram that took me the longest to solve. Had to take to pencil &✏️ paper to get the cartoon solution but I did get it. Hope all of you have a good day.

It’s never come up in conversation here before, but has anyone else ever noticed that we never see wedding rings drawn on any of the couples in the cartoons…despite it being so obvious that many of them are definitely married couples? Even the cartoons that featured Jeff and David’s parents over the years have been sans rings. So I’m wondering if we could dub today’s couple as unmarried with true TENANTcity! 😉Have a good one, Everybody. Be well and stay safe out there…🏠🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. Hi all – I only saw EMCEE quickly from having seen it here before. ROTARY took a few tries after seeing ORATOR or ORATORY. No idea about the answer at first, but after the dialog used “lease” and “sale”, I figured RENT might be in the answer, and distributing all those E’s among the other letters showed “PREFER-RENTS.” Clever pun.
