There were two different actors that played the role of Darrin Stephens on Bewitched. When the show first aired on September 17, 1964, Dick York played the role. A severe back injury, and an unfortunate dependence on painkillers would cause his departure at the end of Season 5 in April of ‘69. He was ultimately replaced by Dick Sargent, who would go on to play Darrin until the final episode aired on March 25, 1972. Looking at today’s cartoon, I’m quite certain the Darrin Stephens caricature we’re seeing is that of Mr. York.
There weren’t any new clue words to be had this morning, but three of the anagrams were. KOALA is the only one we’ve definitely encountered before. My only hiccup came from the double C’s and S’s in ACCESS. I had an inkling that “A” would be the lead letter, and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts, it finally popped into view.
Darrin and Samantha never went fishing during the 8 seasons that the show ran, but luckily for us, Jumble Jeff imagined a cartoon where we can see what it probably would have looked like! The caricatures of the actors were spot-on, and I clearly heard the voices of Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery in my head while reading the dialog. It looks like Sam is clearly the hex-pert when it comes to catching fish. If you looked closely, you probably noticed the couple of lines around Sam’s nose that indicate she used her magic. My favorite detail were the small fish swimming in the water near the boat. The shocked look on their faces was priceless!
The final solve was an anagram consisting of 10-letters. It was quite cryptic, but seeing Sam using her powers in the cartoon easily brought SPELL to mind. With those letters crossed out, the rest of the answer fell neatly into place. Have a terrific Tuesday everyone, and keep Jumbling!

Someone must have cast a spell on me because everything came easy today. 80% on the quiz, too. I remember watching the first episode of Bewitched in black and white. Do I get extra credit?
It’s darn cold here in Old Omaha. Everyone stay safe.
Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well…🧙🏻🙋🏻♀️
🎶 I’m wild again, beguiled again…A simpering, whimpering child again…BEWITCHED, bothered and bewildered am I…🎶 “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” – Cher & Rod Stewart 2003 https://tinyurl.com/2grq6u7l
🧙🏻 Samantha led a charming life, the way the story goes,
And all that she needed to do was simply twitch her nose…
So fishing was so easy, PLACID she’s perched in a boat,
And Darren needn’t worry…she’s bewitching he should note…
She’ll gain ACCESS to any fish, the PIVOT gal is she,
As cute as a KOALA bear she does it rod-reel free
And Darren sits catching a cold, while Sam’s doing quite well…
The secret’s simply knowing when it’s time to CAST A SPELL! 🧙🏻
This calls for Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.

Sorry–I didn’t notice I wasn’t logged on.
No problem-o, Mike. Always a pleasure hearing from you!
Cute puzzle this morning. I remember watching “Bewitched” and thought it was a fun show, though I only scored 70% on the quiz. Witching all of you a good day.
I tried to make this one a bit easier than the last few, Betty. I guess I have Broom to grow!
No, Mike, it’s not you it’s me but please know that I do find the quizzes fun. If I don’t know the answers, I learn them and that’s a good thing.
Oh, ok Betty. Thank you for letting me know that. Enjoy your afternoon!
Hi all – Surprisingly, another near-personal best time today. No problem with the words or answer, despite the IC not being a suffix in PLACID.
I never did watch Bewitched, but I did catch the reference from the “Sam” in the dialog.
Well, if I didn’t pass the Beatles quiz, I knew I didn’t have much chance on this one. Scored 40%, missed 2,5,6,8,9 and 10. Although I actually did much better than that, because I answered all those “Do you remember” questions with the correct answer, “No”. 😂
Good wishes to everyone.
“The hungry KOALA had to PIVOT around the croc-infested lake to ACCESS the PLACID eucalyptus glen.”
Same here, Steve. I’ve never seen it either..but I think everyone came to know Samantha…🧙🏻🙋🏻♀️
48 people have taken the quiz so far and exactly half scored 70% or above.
I don’t know if you noticed, but I added a few “joke” answers, like Dr. Oz, but I guess it wasn’t much help. Maybe Bewitched just wasn’t popular with our Jumble friends. 🤷🏼♂️
🐨 Heeding the Safari guides warning that venturing too close to the normally PLACID KOALA bears could CAST A SPELL upon them, he watched through his binoculars as one by one, they would PIVOT themselves on branches trying to gain ACCESS to the eucalyptus…🐨
🐨 He gained title of PIVOT man, all ACCESS did he wield,
Quite PLACID in his nature, he achieved top in his field,
So when the Zoo was able a KOALA Bear to get,
The job was his to care for it…and they had no regret
Meticulously he tended it, all issues he could quell…
And whispers heard around the Zoo claimed he had CAST A SPELL! 🐨
I didn’t watch Bewitched much but enough to know the gist of it. The characters seemed like fun to me and her nose wiggles were a novel plot enhancer. I had no trouble with the J today but did crash and burn on Mike’s quiz! I’ll see y’all on the morrow……
Same here, Mig. I only watched the show when I was lucky enough to stay home from school, which wasn’t that often.
I’m sorry to hear that you struck out on the quiz, but congats on a successful Jumble solve. 🙂
Too easy words and bonus el
A Monday level puzzle on a Tuesday,as far as the Bewitched quiz, even though I was a fan of the show,I only scored 50% on the quiz.
Thanks for trying the quiz, Chuck!
I’ve enjoyed the quizzes Mike, although IM hard pressed to pass them! I will keep trying…..
Your positivity is commendable, Mig!
Enjoy the sunshine. I’m bundling up to go shovel the walkway again. 🥶
Good afternoon. I’ll tackle the puzzle later. Just returned from Atlantic City. Didn’t win again but as always had a good time with family. Visited Ocean (stayed there) Hard Rock and Borgata. It’s been awhile I came back a winner. I flunked the test about the Beatles but got 80 on bewitched. Never heard anything about the heart she wore and when the nosy neighbor bought her washing dishes. My second choice on both would have been the right answer. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
You never let us down, Paul! I’m glad you had a fun and safe trip. It’d be interesting to hear if you noticed the crowd sizes increasing now that the vaccine is available. Enjoy your evening.
Hi Mike. Ocean was more crowded that last years Super Bowl game. After the game the Bogata was way more crowded that last year, all the tables were full. The roulette wheel and the dice tables were 15 and $25. We finally found one for $10 and was lucky to walk away when it started to go sour with $170 to the good. My son is luckier then me so I backed him and he played the numbers. I really don’t think the shots made a difference one way of the other. None of us got it yet. I will when it’s easier to get it. Take care.
Thanks for the update, Paul. We just had a small SB party with family. Your adventure sounds much more interesting, but too rich for my blood! 😂
I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and got to spend time with family. Have a great evening.
