  1. A fairly obvious solution to kick off the first full week of January. The fact that a kite was being used in the cartoon pretty much made the answer a gimme. Kite flying is still a pretty popular pastime here at the beach, but drone flying is definitely all the rage right now. Luckily I was a good boy last year and Santa brought me one for Christmas. Here’s a photo that I took this weekend of the ocean from a distance of 426 feet above my home.

    There weren’t any new clue words today, but three of the anagrams were. MUHID is the only one that we’ve definitely seen a few times before. My only challenge came from RELENT. There aren’t too many words that can be made from the letters so it popped out at me after a few seconds of pause.

    The weather conditions seem to be ideal for flying a kite. I did notice a few action lines around the string, but it looks like he’s got everything under control. Dad doesn’t look the least bit concerned either. You’ve got to admire the patience of the little girl waiting her turn. The bow in her hair made her look like a cutie pie.   4. Good morning. Today was a repeat of yesterday. I backed into CAUGHT. Being stuck I switched to the cartoon and had another blind solve. Knowing the letters I needed, zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah I caught the last word in a blink of an eye. Thanks Mike on those interesting facts. My father use to make our kites with brown paper from the butcher. Always liked it more that the store bought ones. Seemed to last longer. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  8. Literally an easy breezy Monday puzzle. Love the picture of that other ocean, Mike. We have something called “Ben Franklin Kite Day” here where people gather to fly their kites by the not so peaceful Pacific. Happy Monday to all.

      • Thanks Betty. I lost sight of it a few times over the weekend, but there’s a button on the remote that you can press to have it land automatically. Definitely a lifesaver for a noob!

        I didn’t find much on Ben Franklin Kite Day, but there was plenty of info on the Berkeley Kite Festival. I would assume that they’re pretty much the same though.

    Cool drone photo Mike, and I also think we’ll have to add the phrase “kiting related fatalities” to the other oddities like Spinal Tap’s drummer’s “bizarre gardening accident.” 😂

  10. I could look at the Jumble and know it’s Monday…. No sweat at all. I was gonna fly a kite today until I learned of the number of kiting related fatalities (KRFs) so I’ve dropped that idea! It’s beautiful here, I hope it also is where you hang out…..

  11. Mike, the Ben Franklin Kite Day is more a local neighborhood activity than a formal program. It’s mostly for the children.
