  1. A fairly obvious solution to kick off the first full week of January. The fact that a kite was being used in the cartoon pretty much made the answer a gimme. Kite flying is still a pretty popular pastime here at the beach, but drone flying is definitely all the rage right now. Luckily I was a good boy last year and Santa brought me one for Christmas. Here’s a photo that I took this weekend of the ocean from a distance of 426 feet above my home.

There weren’t any new clue words today, but three of the anagrams were. MUHID is the only one that we’ve definitely seen a few times before. My only challenge came from RELENT. There aren’t too many words that can be made from the letters so it popped out at me after a few seconds of pause.

The weather conditions seem to be ideal for flying a kite. I did notice a few action lines around the string, but it looks like he’s got everything under control. Dad doesn’t look the least bit concerned either. You’ve got to admire the patience of the little girl waiting her turn. The bow in her hair made her look like a cutie pie. Have a magnificent Monday everyone, and keep Jumbling!

  2. Here are 10 Fun Facts about: KITES

    10. There are over 50 million kites sold in the USA every year.
    9. The Chinese believe that when you tilt your head back to look at a kite in the sky, your mouth opens slightly which gets rid of excess body heat, giving you a healthy yin-yang balance.
    8. The largest number of kites flown on a single line is 11,284.
    7. The longest kite in the world is 3394 feet.
    6. The Chinese name for a kite is Fen Zheng, which means wind harp. The name is derived from early Chinese kites which used to carry wind musical instruments.
    5. The fastest recorded speed of a kite is over 120 mph.
    4. The record for the longest kite fly is 180 hours.
    3. More adults in the world fly kites than children.
    2. The record for the highest single kite flown is 12,471 feet.
    1. On average, there are 12 kiting related fatalities each year throughout the world!

    Final Thought:

“Imagination is the highest kite one can fly.” —Lauren Bacall
    • Number 1 seems shocking…I think there’s some strings attached there! 😉🪁🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. Good morning. Today was a repeat of yesterday. I backed into CAUGHT. Being stuck I switched to the cartoon and had another blind solve. Knowing the letters I needed, zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah I caught the last word in a blink of an eye. Thanks Mike on those interesting facts. My father use to make our kites with brown paper from the butcher. Always liked it more that the store bought ones. Seemed to last longer. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • You’re most welcome, Paul. It wasn’t the the most interesting subject, but I think the list turned out ok. 🙂

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah! 👏🏻👏🏻! My Father used to make us kites too…from pages of the Sunday comics, and cut up pastel-colored sheets for the tails. Getting my kite stuck in a tree wasn’t one of my favorite childhood memories….But it’s definitely UP THERE! 😉🪁🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. An easy Monday puzzle w a blind cartoon solution, and no problem w the anagrams.Definitely a Monday level Jumble Day.

  5. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well….🪁🙋🏻‍♀️

🪁 Go fly a kite” we maybe hear…and people ‘oft times do,
You have to hope it’s not HUMID, you’re slowed down by the dew
You pray your kite will rise with wind, not get CAUGHT in a tree,
You must hold tight and not RELENT, for steady is the key…
You try to be quite PICKY, with size and weight and tail,
And looking to succeed at this, good weather must prevail
    Not winter, summer, spring’s ideal…oh no it’s au contraire…
Your chances are best in the Fall…to stay UP IN THE AIR! 🪁

  6. 💇🏻‍♀️ Originally UP IN THE AIR as to how she’d style her hair, with the weather being so HUMID she couldn’t afford to be very PICKY…and since it was already CAUGHT up in the frizz…she just decided to RELENT, and tie it back…💇🏻‍♀️

🤷🏻‍♂️ He’d never been a PICKY sort, he’d RELENT easily,
Not one to get CAUGHT up in things that’d cause problems to be
And today it’s so HUMID, plans may change…but devil may care..
He’ll wait and see what happens ‘cause it’s still UP IN THE AIR! 🤷🏻‍♂️

  7. Literally an easy breezy Monday puzzle. Love the picture of that other ocean, Mike. We have something called “Ben Franklin Kite Day” here where people gather to fly their kites by the not so peaceful Pacific. Happy Monday to all.

      • Thanks Betty. I lost sight of it a few times over the weekend, but there’s a button on the remote that you can press to have it land automatically. Definitely a lifesaver for a noob!

I didn’t find much on Ben Franklin Kite Day, but there was plenty of info on the Berkeley Kite Festival. I would assume that they’re pretty much the same though.

Have a great start to your week! 🙂

  8. Hi all – Super easy Monday puzzle, with the “GHT” combo showing CAUGHT.

Cool drone photo Mike, and I also think we’ll have to add the phrase “kiting related fatalities” to the other oddities like Spinal Tap’s drummer’s “bizarre gardening accident.” 😂

    Good wishes to everyone.

“When the hot and HUMID weather wouldn’t RELENT, he swore he wouldn’t be CAUGHT dead living there another summer, started planning his move to a drier climate, and wasn’t PICKY about where.”

  9. I could look at the Jumble and know it’s Monday…. No sweat at all. I was gonna fly a kite today until I learned of the number of kiting related fatalities (KRFs) so I’ve dropped that idea! It’s beautiful here, I hope it also is where you hang out…..

  10. Mike, the Ben Franklin Kite Day is more a local neighborhood activity than a formal program. It’s mostly for the children.

  11. KITE MAN: Some die-hard comic book aficionados may be heard to say that he’s just a FLY BY NIGHT Character…but I always found his story line UPLIFTing…Granted he did GLIDE in and out of publications, and his so called dim-wittedness may have been a SOAR spot, making it easy to STRING him along…but I think he was GROUNDed enough in the history of DC villains to RAISE a glass to… So, here’s to KITE MAN.🍷…https://tinyurl.com/y4f75l79

🪁 The villain known as “Kite Man” has used his evil ways,
To entertain a comics fan, throughout his DC days…
Charles “Chuck” Brown is his given name, a wink to you know who,
He’d use his kites for evil deeds, and say “Hell yeah” all through
A nemesis to Batman, he’s been in and out for years…
But colorful he always is…career UP IN THE AIR! 🪁

  12. I dug UP another one! July 17th, 2010. The question: “When the storm hit, the pilot’s decision to land was”…The solve:..UP IN THE AIR! ✈️🙋🏻‍♀️
