    • Good Morning, Glen. David only uses words that appear in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. And as you can see here, DROLE doesn’t. https://tinyurl.com/yybonxwd . There is a French word drôle, pronounced “drol,” which is an adjective that means “funny” or “peculiar.” Have a good day. Be well and stay safe out there. 1️⃣🙋🏻‍♀️

    • The last time, a few months ago, that OLDER was in a puzzle, I guessed drole too. However, I found it didn’t work for the solution. I realized that the correct spelling in American English is droll.

  1. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well.

🎶 ONE is the loneliest number…ONE is the loneliest number…ONE is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do…🎶 “One (Is the Loneliest Number)” – Three Dog Night 1969 https://tinyurl.com/mgfgbgz

1️⃣ Today our numbers are at odds…they’re angry and they’re bolder,
They seem a real disgruntled bunch…with Five acting real colder…
The number Three is playing odds, while Seven’s one to KNOCK,
(No pun intended since ACCENT’s on One within this flock…
While Nine being the youngest seems to take it all in stride,
Although his look of displeasure is hard for him to hide…
‘Cause One brags that he’s OLDER, that he’s done well with his time,
(Might be a FOSSIL number…Is he still within his prime)?
    So yes, Ones’s first…but he’s become a legend in his mind…
Because the others, maybe odd… but all ONE OF A KIND…1️⃣

Todays’ dialogue is TOTALly hilarious…a double whammy…Two for ONE!…But it way too easily ADDS up to the obvious clever solution…It’s definitely another great ONE! Enjoy your day, Everyone. Be well and stay safe out there. 1️⃣🙋🏻‍♀️

…And continued thoughts and prayers for our neighbors on the Gulf and West Coasts. 🙏🏻

  2. 🗣It seemed that the OLDER he became, the more pronounced his Brooklyn ACCENT grew…not that he’d KNOCK it; because someday soon, being an old FOSSIL and sounding as he did…he’d definitely be ONE OF A KIND…🗣

🤷🏻 He signed up for a FOSSIL find, before he got much OLDER,
While he was still adventurous… he wasn’t totally bolder…
He had been in the past for sure, the ACCENT on the young…
But today all too often…he feels spent once he’s begun…
So that’s why now’s the perfect time…his bucket list in mind,
To KNOCK off something that to him screams “I’m ONE OF A KIND”! 🤷🏻

  3. I see that DROLE is a British version of DROLL and the Irish use the word, too. Using DROLE instead of OLDER does yield a solution, namely INK ON A FOLD. If one thinks of the lines as fold lines, the numbers clearly are made of ink (unless a pencil is used). It may be that the 1 is ONE OF A KIND, but that isn’t a good Poker hand. 3 is Three of a Kind, which is a higher hand, and the 5 is Five of a Kind, the highest, so high that you need two decks of cards for that. And I do note that when the more usual word OLDER is used, another solution is possible, namely INK OF A NODE. Indeed the 1 stands on a node of a graph, and the 1 and the graph are both made of ink. But it is not a good solution since the 3 and the 5 are also inks on their nodes.

    • Good Morning, Jim….I don’t NODE how you’d INK that either of these ODD solutions would be suitable, in light of the puzzles dialogue and question. If this were a Poker game? Best move would be to FOLD…Be well, Jim. And stay safe out there. 1️⃣🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Here’s the first appearance of FOSSIL!

  5. Good morning. Pretty easy jumble this morning but always enjoy the numbers theme. Using the letters to solve the cartoon was an instant read. Very clever. Loved the song choice. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  6. 9:31 AM…EDT! It’s FALL Y’all! And let’s hope the beauty of the Season brings a renewed sense of hope to us all…🍁🍃🍂

🍁🍃The leaves turn red and orange, the air smells crisp and clear,
We start to get excited around this time of the year…
We don our scarfs and sweaters…we drink our Pumpkin Spice,
We walk a little faster in the weather that’s so nice…
Things all become much brighter, as we watch the temperature fall…
    I love what’s coming soon for us…Enjoy! It’s FALL Y’ALL! 🍃🍁

  7. Older looked like eld-or,or dro-le to me at first as well, but when I settled on older, everything else fell quickly into place for this retired math prof and a number related puzzle.

  8. See they are running out of originals and now doing repeats of the pictures and captions. Instantly recognized the picture and thus knew the answer.

    • Ronald…I beg to differ. While we have seen many number-themed puzzles over the years, and in fact one just last month, https://tinyurl.com/y3a4tddw, you’ll see that the cartoon is by no means a repeat, nor is the dialogue. There may be similarities, but they’re not ONE and the same. 365 days a year…year in, year out. That’s what David and Jeff give to their public. So if once in a while something’s familiar…well I think it’s just the nature of the beast. IMO, they do a job SECOND to none…Have a good day, Ronald. Be well and stay safe out there. 1️⃣ 🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Ahhhhh, the old Numbers Game, you can always COUNT on it! Is today Monday? Because this was quite easy. A number of cute number jokes in the dialog. The 1959 Jumble was interesting for having a 7 letter word to solve, don’t think I have seen that before! Good Eye Angela does it again……
Smoke admixed with marine layer on this first day after summer. Cooler, too. If the gulf coast uses up the Greek alphabet what alphabet will they go to next?
Have a red letter day all of you!

    • …Good Morning, Mig. Thanks. And good eye on your part also. As for the Gulf Coast and the Greek Alphabet? Let’s pray things get BETA, and soon. Be well Mig. And stay safe out there. 1️⃣🙋🏻‍♀️

    • If they run out of Greek letters; if indeed the Great Omega of all Hurricanes were to hit the US coast, they might use the Hebrew alphabet. How fitting, since the first letter of that alphabet, aleph (or more precisely, aleph_0) represents infinity.

  10. I always enjoy the numbers puzzle and this one was no exception. Regarding the word droll, I always think of “The Night Before Christmas” – “His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow”. Wishing all of you a pleasant first day of autumn.

    • Good Morning, Betty. I enjoy them too. The whimsy of them…and you know how I have a soft spot for the whimsy! And I like your connection 👏🏻👏🏻..I love when a single word can immediately conjure up a memory…And I thought of you this morning…the memory of your trip to NY and visiting Sleepy Hollow to see the Fall foliage…but your slight disappointment…At least I hope that was you…😳 Lately it seems like my memory just doesn’t ADD up! Happy Autumn, Betty. Be well and stay safe out there. 🍂🍁🙋🏻‍♀️

      • You indeed have a good memory, Angela. Fall fell late the year we took the Hudson River cruise but we enjoyed the trip nonetheless. It seems like a life time ago now. We so loved going to West Point, Hyde Park & of course the 911 Memorial. I hope to return again one day but it won’t be any time soon I’m afraid. I am putting out my Fall decorations today to keep in the spirit of the season. You take care too. 🎃 😷

        • Thank you, Betty. (But maybe not as good as it used to be…’cause lately there’s a lot I try to forget)…😢 But thank God it’s still kicking in here and there! I think about that too…going places, being in crowds…rubbing elbows with strangers. You’re so right..it’s all seems a lifetime ago. But life’s going on, albeit differently…and the Seasons change…And hopefully we can soon look back at all this…and it’ll just be a memory…Enjoy your decorating, Betty. I hope you make a new memory…🎃🙋🏻‍♀️

  11. Hi all – I did have to jumble OLDER a couple of times; otherwise got the rest of the words, and the answer was pretty obvious from the dialog and letter layout.
Interesting *non*-double-letter trick, where the C’s stayed together.

I felt sorry for the poor ‘9’ with a hole in his head! Reminded me of how the cartoon character “Fearless Fosdick” was often drawn during gunfights (ask your grandparents, kids! 😂)

I’m glad to see so many people noted that Fall arrived this morning! It’s always nice to stay connected to the natural world (and universe):
🎵”Wave that flag; wave it wide and high
Summertime done, come and gone, my-oh-my!”🎵
    The Grateful Dead, “US Blues”.
(Angela, I hadn’t seen or heard about this version – a light show on the Empire State Building synced up to this song!)
    https://tinyurl.com/yyylunbh

    Good wishes to everyone.

Angela, I’m POSITIVE that your song shows that you’ve discovered the perfect band for all these types of puzzle – THREE Dog Night doing ONE (is the loneliest NUMBER)! Good catch.

“I would never call an OLDER person a FOSSIL or KNOCK his ACCENT, because without people like that, my wife wouldn’t exist, and she’s definitely ONE OF A KIND.”

    • It’s not really a hole in his head…he’s just a little more OPEN-MINDED than the rest…😉 And the song choice? LOL! No way to disCOUNT this ONE! Have a good ONE, Steve. Be well and stay safe out there. 1️⃣🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. Hi. Never posted on this site before, but I really enjoy doing jumbles. Prefer doing on my own, THEN visiting this site. I felt today that One was being rather egotistical, because if you multiply by one, nothing happens, whereas if you multiply by Zero, poof! It all disappears.

The jumble itself was very easy today

    • Hi Sandy. Welcome and nice to meet you! It’s always a pleasure to meet another Jumble aficionado. And yes, the puzzle was way too easy today…but so cute and clever! The number word play is always a lot of fun…Thanks for commenting, and we hope you’ll do so again in the future. Enjoy your night, Sandy. Be well and stay safe out there. 1️⃣🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Yes, Sandy, I saw that it did. I’m pretty sure that if you don’t have an account, you do need to enter your name and email (which is never published) each time you comment. It’s been so long for me that I don’t truly remember. Perhaps one of the others can verify for Sandy? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • Yes, that’s unfortunately correct. You have to enter your email and name in every post. It used to save them, but after a WordPress “improvement” quite awhile ago that stopped working.
