  1. Good morning. No problem with the words but gave up on the cartoon answer after about fifteen minutes. Thinking about three of my kids having to clean up the mess from the heavy winds and two still without power. I also have some clean up to do. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Paul. We’re cleaning up here too. But thank God the house wasn’t damaged, and the scores of outages are mainly on the South Shore. And all my family out on Long Island is still without power too. It seems to have affected every town out there. I wish you all luck. Stay safe…🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Good morning once again. Two of my kids (15 minutes apart) will be without power until Thursday. The other guy has some siding to replace and the next-door neighbors tree (partially) removed from his backyard. Plus fence damage. Good luck on your end. Take care.

        • Hey Paul. My family is spread over 6-7 towns out there. They all got hit. As for here, as I told Caroline, it could have been worse. At least all the damage was outside. The furniture can always be replaced, and we had one car get scratched from a fallen limb…which isn’t earth-shattering. And even though the limbs are all over to be cleaned up…at least we didn’t have a downed tree on our block. The rest of the Island didn’t fare as well. And I think there’s still around 20K homes without power out here…nothing compared to Long Island and Jersey though. Small blessings. Good luck to you too, Brooklyn…stay safe. 🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. Hi Everyone –
I was having trouble with the answer too but then I returned to the picture and saw the hands.
I also was stumped by Crayon until I realized, after getting the other three anagrams, that I only had one vowel and needed 2 more for the three words of the answer. Knowing that A and O had to go in the circles helped a lot.
Sorry to hear that Paul’s family and others were impacted by the storm.

    • Hi Caroline…Good Morning. You’re right, it was all in the hands… While the woman is shown holding onto the HANDless wrist of the mannequin, and asking for “some that are holding on to each other”, (ie: “holding HANDS”)… the man is seen holding onto two hands which have their thumbs extended “up”ward…(hence his remark that he thinks they’re for hitch-hiking)…making them unsuitable for the display, since the fingers of the hands need to be DOWN…The woman wants to be HANDed DOWNward HANDS….She’s saying…””Hey, HAND ME DOWNS, ok”?…And the only stock they have is old…It’s all HAND-ME-DOWNS… https://tinyurl.com/y6quqbtg…Definitely a clever one….I hope you were spared the storm…Be well Caroline, and stay safe. 🙋🏻‍♀️

      • I appreciated your analysis, Angela, because I missed that second meaning for the answer. Yes, we were spared, thanks, but I’m sorry that you and your family weren’t. I don’t think the storm was supposed to get this far west.
Wishing you and everyone the same.

        • Hi, Caroline. Thank you. That’s what I think made it so clever, the double reading into it. The dialogue was so spot on. As for the storm I’m glad you were spared. All things considered, I consider myself blessed, it could have been a lot worse. I heard this morning that over 900 trees were downed, just here on the Island alone. It just upsets me, because we pay such high taxes, you’d think they’d pay more attention to caring for the trees. Anyway…I just hope the rest of the “storm” season doesn’t measure up to yesterday…Be well, Caroline…stay safe. 🙋🏻‍♀️

        • I know…And I can’t imagine how many were lost on Long Island, considering how widespread the power outages are out there. It is sad because the trees here are huge…but old. Majestic …but old. And they don’t get the care they need. So any time I hear about “wind”? My stomach turns! All you hear are the winds, and the fire trucks running to put out all the fires caused by the downed wires…I often rethink moving onto an Island….But still, compared to what I’m seeing on the news, to what’s happened in other parts of the country? This all pales in comparison. Mother Nature…As cruel as she is beautiful! 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • We definitely need to hear more of these solving tricks you’ve been hiding all these years 😂 That’s a good one I hadn’t thought of, and it works even if you hadn’t gotten the answer yet!

  3. My cartoon is hard to make out,so I couldn’t see the hands, thus was stumped by the ” hand me down ” solution even though having all the anagrams and letters.Sorry to hear about the storm damage in the NJ and NY areas, stay safe.

    • Good Morning Professor. You know when I said to Caroline that it was all in the hands, I should have put “hands” in quotes. Because it wasn’t just the drawing…the dialogue said so much. You always have to study the dialogue. And as far as the cartoon goes, the paper alone never does it justice. It’s always good to look online, where you can get a large image that shows all the little gems. Thanks for your concern, Prof, and I hope you stay well and safe too. 🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. This one came fast and easy for me (guess I am no dummy, eh?). Hope everyone is weathering the storm. I am in Cally so it is monotonously warm without much precipitation. We can offer fires, however!

    • Hi Mig. Unfortunately we’re all at the mercy of Mother Nature, one way or another. Too bad we couldn’t send you some of our rain! 😉 In moderation, it’s always welcomed…Be well, Mig…and stay safe out there. 🙋🏻‍♀️

      • We just had a earthquake a week or so ago. If it’s under 6.0 I rarely note them….

  5. 🖍 After the SHINY red CRAYON was found melted in the MIDDLE of the TWINE-bound pile of HAND ME DOWNS, they had to re-wash all the clothing….🖍

🕴🏻We often see the mannequins, they with their SHINY skin,
All dressed in CRAYON colors…they’re displayed to draw us in…
We’d never think to look to see if TWINE attached the hands,
They stand there in the MIDDLE of departments looking grand…
They’re usually quite stoic, there’s no smile nor a frown,
And many of the clothes we see will end up HAND ME DOWNS …🕴🏻

  6. Really good mental workout this morning. Crayon was the anagram that took me the longest to figure out and then I got to the cartoon answer – had to resort to paper and pencil for that one. It was as very clever puzzle and you’re so right, Angela it’s important to study the dialogue. So sorry to hear of the storm damage you East Coasters are experiencing. 2020 seems to be a positively Biblical year – pandemic, hurricanes, fires – are locusts coming next? Stay safe all.

    • Betty…Don’t joke! I had a mosquito get into the house and I was dialing 911! 😂 Today we don’t know what the heck they’re carrying…It’s all so bizarre! The dialogue? …Yes, it’s key. And I think todays’ was extremely well thought out. Know what thought crossed my mind this morning when I first looked at the puzzle?…I hope people don’t miss the forest for the TEES! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know…I’m incorrigible! 😉…Actually, I try to keep laughing…to keep from crying!…Thanks for your concern, Betty. Be well and stay safe out there…🦟🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Love it, the forest for the Tees. Keep up your sense of humor, Angela. It’s essential these days.

        • Yes, it definitely is, Betty. And it’s about the only positive thing going right now…Oh..wait..did I say positive???? Ok, scratch that! 😂😂🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Hi all – The answer first – from the letter layout I thought “Hand-in-glove”, but when I wrote the letters I saw it. Of the words, CRAYON took by far the longest and was the most interesting. The usual tricks of putting the Y and then ACY at the end didn’t work, so I was left to wonder about “CON-ary”, a think tank for dreaming up swindles (based in a former tomato processing plant), “con-AR-y” in a coal mine, Sean CONary, and, just as it’s Jumbled, “Yarn-Co”, the fabric store. Then I had to laugh when I saw RAYON (ok, so it’s a *synthetic* fabric store!), and then got the word by sticking the C at the beginning.

Good wishes to everyone. Sorry you had to endure the scary storm, but grateful it wasn’t worse for you.

“The MIDDLE school class had a great time using the SHINY CRAYON colors to decorate their TWINE tapestry.”

    • Thanks, Steve. ..And that’s one hell of a COLOR commentary! 😂🖍 Be well, Bud…and stay safe out there…🙋🏻‍♀️
